So we saw one of the greatest performances ever by a track runner today, and Usain Bolt in the 200 was pretty good too.
Seriously, David Rudisha. What a legend.
Also, Jade Jones is awesome. At kicking people in the head.

ugh, I could not believe the Ukrainian girl choked so bad at diving today--2nd place prior to her last dive, and then less than 60 points and last place. sigh.
only spot of good news--tomorrow is big boxing day, and out of the 7 boys we've had in the tournament, 5 made it to semifinals (so are guaranteed at least a bronze)
Also, our female relay teams look primed to take home some medals.

Jordan Burroughs is a wrestling god already. That Tsargush match was insane. Goudarzi, his finals opponent from Iran, is a legend too (has medaled at least 3 worlds and more).

Watched the Bronze Medal Soccer and it was damned fine entertainment and I felt good for our girls to win.
CTV though (in their shitty wisdom) decided not to air the Gold Medal game between USA and Japan...so they could air....repeats of Canadian's not medaling in other sports...so I had to settle for highlights reel instead. Looks like it was a good game.
I still fucking despise Abby Wambach.

The BMX is insane. Great addition as an Olympic sport.

Wasn't it on one of the other channels covering... ESPN or OLN or something? I thought i saw it...
As an aside i'm still getting a laugh out of the CBC coverage that never misses an opportunity to drop in a comment like '...but we're not allowed to show you that so here's our correspondent to talk about it while standing outside of the venue....'.
Watch for some nasty retaliation against CTV when CBC covers 2016.

Yeah, probably, but I was not at home and had to PVR to watch...and our TV with the PVR doesn't go up that high. Funnily enough we have FULL free cable in both our bedroom and the guest bedroom, but neither TV is hooked up to the PVR...only the main room one.

The Brownlee family by themselves would be tied for 42nd on the Olympic Table with Latvia and Lithuania (1 gold 1 bronze)
Phelps would be 16th just ahead of North Korea(4 gold 2 silver v 4 gold 2 bronze)
meh. Link was dead :(

Well, 3 0f the 5 made it to the finals.
And our 4 x 100 m women's relay team grabbed bronze--not bad, really.
also, the woman who got a silver in canoe sprint 500m qualified for 200m finals may make something happen.
There's still a chance we'll make a good showing in these games after all--with all of these plus 5 athletes in men's freestyle wrestling.

Are you Canadian? If so, none of the Canadian men's medalists in the last 15 years have been homegrown.
Gia Sissouri (one world gold, two world bronzes) and Daniel Igali (two world golds, one Olympic gold) were transplants. And they last medalled in 2001. None of the Canadians will likely medal in any of the freestyle divisions in the near future as there's really not a good crop of Canadian wrestlers there - nor has there been in ten years.
Verbeek got the silver in one of the women's freestyle divisions this year - but Yoshida is so far ahead of the field in terms of technique that nobody will beat her in the near future. I had multiple wrestling people say they were extremely impressed by the beating Yoshida put on the field.

Their best shot was Aldatov at 84 kg (2011 world silver medalist) and he ran into the Russian in the Round of 16. Sorry, Mentalist.
A Canadian, Matt Gentry, did get to the bronze medal match in the 74 kg match, but it was against Tsargush - who only loses to Burroughs (the eventual gold medalist).
Man, the Russians hate Mentalist.

Had a day off work, so saw both of Aldatov's matches. He had to come back from Round 1 both matches, and he just could not pull it off in the end.
We did pick up a Boxing Gold (and one silver), plus silver in javelin toss (by 7 cm.... ugh, so close), and a gold and silver in individual Canoe Sprints.
Certainly a big contribution to UA's Olympic haul.

Surprise silver in 96 kg for UKR! Yazdani's injury really opened things up and Varner (USA) was too good in the final.

I've been so proud of my country these 2 weeks 104 medals total in 1st place with the most G, S& B of anyone to.
Actually the Russkies beat you on the Bronzes
Still, despite my (massive) initial scepticism, I have thoroughly enjoyed the last couple of weeks, helped by some ridiculous over-performances by the team.
So much so that i'm actually going to seek out tickets to the Commonwealth games in 2014.
And possibly travel to Rio for shits and giggles in 2016... though I was planning on heading there in 2014 to watch Ghana in the world cup (I'm assuming Scotland won't qualify)
