Already started on Ghost Story (after reading Aftermath - enjoyed reading from Murphy's perspective) and this will prove to be very interesting book. For example will he somehow come back to life? If so how? Why? And how?

He gets reanimated by the Phoenix Force, goes nuts and almost destroys Chicago before Murphy re-kills him, but it turns out that the Phoenix hid his body underwater and copied his personality.

Dude, spoilers!
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I just couldn't understand why the women were throwing themselves at this "Dresden" until I understood that the Phoenix improved his looks considerably. Some people/literary characters just don't have the luck...

The Mouse and Mister fastball special was epic!

Ok so maybe it has taken me this long to OD on the Dresdencrack but I have found Ghost Story a more difficult book. I think part of it is having characters I have grown comfortable with (esp. Murphy & Molly) becoming very different. The anger & the hate that is there now - the whole book reads differently to the rest of them. I partly dislike it, but mostly I am a bit in awe of Butcher for being able to mess with me like that. So yeah, I still love it but I' m not comfortably enjoying it in the same manner... Side effects?

Have you finished the book yet? I think you'll be back on track by the finish. It does have quite a different feel for the most part, but the finale brings things back to familiar ground, and sets things up well for the sereis going forward

I liked the disruption. You're right there's some sourness invading some "good guys" but I liked that too. There's sort of an It's A Wonderful Life effect going on, minus the rewinding time.

Ghost Story was a struggle for me as well. I'll go as far to say that I got bored with it at one point. Don't worry though, it picks up at the end.

Not bored, just a bit "at odds" it jars somewhat... I'm 3/4 of the way through & it is picking up nicely with the Saving Private Ryan sequence! :-D

GS was a minor letdown for me as well. Don't get me wrong, I loved the fast-forwarding a year and the cliffhanger ending was great, but a lot of the inbetween disappointed me a little. Partly I think it was how he was able to get his magic back. The blurb on the jacket is all "Harry's dead and can't use magic and has no allies" and basically everything in the blurb is revealed to be false.

I guess I should have said, "bored in comparison to the rest of the novels that I couldn't stop reading if my pants were on fire".

Aha. Yes that makes more sense!

Finished last night! It was a great ending & I can't wait for the next one, glad to have caught up with you lot! I liked the "Well Molly was just pretending all along... OR WAS SHE???!?!??!!!??"
