I thought it might be fun for people to do this and post their top 10s. Basically you choose your favorite between two random movies and eventually it (theoretically) comes up with a more and more accurate ranking of your favorites. Sort of like the Most Awesomest Thing Ever website, except for movies. I'm finding it to be hit and miss so far. It's got Spider-Man 3 at #6 and Men In Black II at #8...probably two of my LEAST favorite comic book movies, and certainly don't belong anywhere even approaching my top 10. Also, 10 Things I Hate About You is at #16. Um...no... :headbang: Anyway, I'm going to keep trying and then I'll post my list when it makes a little bit more sense.

Do you have to sign up to do the quiz/test thing? I am not signing up to some random internet site just to do a silly facebook quiz.

An interesting concept but it places way too much weight on the first few choices (sure you can rerank them but then surely that defeats the object)? The Hulk (Eric Bana version) was the first choice I had, against something even worse, and 200 choices later it's still at number 2 on my list. I'ma keep trying this for a little while but I get the sense that you'd really have to do this for a very long time before it starts resembling anyone's actual top 10 list.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I'm not aware that it is connected to facebook in any way...other than having the "share" links that exist everywhere. But yes, you do have to sign in, otherwise you'd have to start from scratch each time. I don't remember even having to provide an email address. I think you just create a username and password. Maybe I'm too blase about logins after 14 years on the internet, but I didn't consider it a big deal...

I noticed this too. It's got Ace Ventura as my #1. Funny movie, yes; #1, no... You can re-rank specific movies by clicking on the title and it will provide another movie to compare it to. In spite of its flaws, I am finding it somewhat insightful. It's got Edward Scissorhands, The Breakfast Club, and Big Fish in my top 20...movies that I never would have thought to pick, but may very well belong that high, now that I think about it...

I think the key here is that you have to re-rank movies to make it work. They only change positions when you actually make a comparison, so it's important to provide multiple data points for each film to correctly rank it.

Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

Hmm, playing about with it a bit more I notice some unsatisfactory things about its algorithm. If you re-rank a film, I would expect all films that have been ranked as worse than that film to be moved down as well. But it doesn't seem to do that, which I think is a rather large flaw in the system.

I'm not doing this, but thank you, early adopters, for trying out the stupid stuff so I don't have to.

Yes, this site is kind of a bust. Apologies for foisting it on the unsuspecting bystanders.

In spite of re-ranking, Phantom Menace is #14 on my chart. At least the 3 good Star Wars films are finally above it now. But still. C'mon...

The main problem I've noticed is that it continuously pits lame movies against even lamer movies and awesome movies against even awesomer movies. So the lame movies are then ranked artificially high and the awesome movies artificially low.
