Your right, I just thought it funny that he floats around. Well maybe we just have to consider we'll never really know where hes from, I think half the reason why he's so liked is the mysterious quality about him. Hes obviously more than just your average alchemist weirdo but even Vorcan isn't totally sure where he came from.

In support of the FA hypothesis, there's a line about Studlock's "strangely jointed hands" in Orb, Scepter, Crown. "Strangely-jointed" almost always seems to mean "Forkrul Assail" in these series.

From Chapter IX:

Some time later another figure came shambling down the stairs, long tatters of his cloth wrappings trailing behind. Studlock bowed, ‘She is gone, mistress.’ Vorcan nodded heavily. ‘Good. None interfered? Madrun? Lazan?’

‘None. Your instructions were most precise. Only she and the other are to be allowed to pass.’

She sank lower, relaxing, the chains clattering. ‘Good. Good.’

Studlock rubbed his cloth-wrapped hands together, perhaps as a gesture of worry. ‘What shall we do, mistress?’
