For those who haven't seen the film and wish to see the luscious title sequence (one of my fave ever in the series), check it out here in all it's glory.

I enjoyed. Doesn't merit overthinking because that would throw me right out of the film, but overall entertaining and massively better than QUANTUM.

I really enjoyed the movie- probably one of the best Bonds ever. I thought it was a great homage to the old Bonds considering it's the 50th anniversary of the franchise, and in line with this Shanghai and the Middle East worked well as "exotic" places. I liked that it had a sort of a quintessential British feel about it, and of course with Daniel Craig, Judy Dench and Ralph Fiennes some fine British actors too. It's also the one of the few, if not the only Bond where a large part of the plot happens on British ground, if I remember correctly- I loved the whole tube action and seeing so much of London was awesome and the scenery up in Scotland was beautiful, not surprisingly. Bardem is an awesome, creepy villain, of course, being the outstanding actor that he is, and I liked Albert Finney- he's a legend.
It's a shame to see Judy Dench go, because I always thought she made a great M and there was this chemistry between her and Craig, but Fiennes is a decent replacement and the two of them go well too, I have to say.
Besides- Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever and I really really hope he is going to take up the tux one more time. He plays it so well- this cultivated yet raw/brute manliness that makes James Bond.

^^^ This. The Bond franchise was getting a little too Jason Bourne for my taste. This story takes us back to the suave Bond, the "shaken but not stirred Bond", the "Aston Martin driving Bond". Don't get me wrong, I love Daniel Craig as James Bond in all of the movies and agree that he (may) be the best Bond ever. But it was refreshing to see this movie update what was so awesome about the James Bond brand.

Saw it last night. Pretty darn good, think it's definitely up there with the best of the Bond films. Definitely the most beautifully shot - the neon Shanghai was just gorgeous. Acting all top notch.
Hopefully now that Daniel Craig's Bond is now fully "set up" they don't lapse into the formulaic self-parody of previous Bond offerings.

I wouldn't mind if they just re-interpreted all the old Bond classics. Imagine that opening sequence from Moonraker done with modern CGI. Also Modern day Jaws amd Oddjob? That would be... interedasting.

So wait Apt....you would prefer them REMAKING old movies instead of making new Bond stories?
Wow, you'll not mind me if I vehemently disagree. SKYFALL is a step in the right direction os new Bond films with stories that don't already exist in some fashion.

Arguably the Craig Casino Royale would support Apt's point, but the original wasn't really a Bond film. The Thunderball/Never Say Never Again thing is all the reason i need to argue against remaking old Bond films.
At a base level, Bond films are not rocket science (except for that one with Denise Richards that involved rocket science... and Moonraker, actually...) . Even originality-starved hollywood should be able to come up with viable variations of 'Bond does something cool, badguy does something evil, M sends Bond on mission, Q appears, Bond almost dies, Bond shags Bond-Girl, Bond kills bad-guy and X number henchmen'.

I didn't say I'd PREFER it. I said I wouldn't mind. The original movies are so old that a direct remake wouldn't even make sense. They are horribly anachronistic and their entire make-up is very different from what a modern day Bond crowd would want but they still have some iconic imagery and legendary characters.
What I really want is for the franchise to re-interpret SPECTRE. I want Bond and MI6 pitted against a Super Terrorist/Evil Secret society type of organization with absurd take over the world/crush the economy/steal the worlds surplus of twinkies type of schemes.

That's where they are headed, just with new stories.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that any modern re-interpretation of Oddjob is just going to be farcical if not outright suck.
Case in point...

...because honestly, who throws a shoe????
And don't even get me started on 'Jaws'.

Really wasn't blown away by it. In fact, I was rather disappointed by it.
Amongst other things, it felt like one seriously drawn out prologue just to introduce a new character.
I did like seeing
And the bad guy's performance was pure Bond villian - he did an awesome job.
Also, it was rather light on action and high in drama - not a bad thing per se but given the unimpressive story I would have preferred more action scenes. I was actively bored in parts.

again. That was a really nice touch.

Indeed, it was, in a sense...CASINO ROYALE shows us an untested Bond, unleashed for the first time like a mad dog....QUANTUM OF SOLACE takes that mad dog and shows him that you really can't BE the way he attempted to be (a cold-hearted killer...who attempts to love and have a heart...) and that puts him through the wringer, up to and including torture, and ending in the MOST FLAMMABLE HOTEL ever...LOL....so SKYFALL is really his re-indoctrination into the role he was meant for, but more wary, more poised...less mad dog and more calculated, I no longer have those emotions tripping me up, killer...this includes shedding the very last bastion of his emotion he has left in him (his son-like love and devotion for M). So you definitely have a reason to see it that way, as I really think that a lot of SKYFALL is table dressing for the role moving forward.
That sucks that you were disappointed by it though Loki, I hate going to movies and not getting out of them what I expected, it really does let you down.

Cheer up though, HOBBIT in a few weeks.

My apologies.
I should probably not talk about the Hobbit again until after I've seen it. I keep going off on rants. And despite my unending nitpickyness, I don't normally go into films expecting them to let me down.

I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

But why would a British agent want to stop such a thing???

Oh man, the Secret Service is just going to love that.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
