So if the post did get decoded we'd learn that Maccy and someone were lovers/paired and if nothing else it would give a finder a good choice of night 1 find. If said finder finds Maccy scum, he could reveal it day 2, we lynch maccy and his partner and win on day 3 (barring no other non-symp scum). How the fuck is that not inno behaviour if it is potentially very helpful to town?

The chance of you pointing out scum for a finder to hit seem significantly lower than the chances of you pointing out a role for scum to hit. For one it is more likely for innos to put codes on thread, for two we know there are scum we don't even know if we've got a finder.

Not only that, but since you couldn't decode thus making it a "moot point" would it not have been better to see if it was a moot point or not before announcing it on thread, in case he is roled?

If it was an inno role it could only be lovers and those aren't even much use unless they both live to D-Day, which with grudges and one of them being a drunken bastard is almost impossible anyways. As for more likely of innos to put code, scum do it all the time to fake-reveal as lovers when close to D-day so it was perfectly valid.

As for putting it on thread, I am a shitty decoder so pointing it out for the rest of the thread to help makes perfect sense, same as lots of cases and arguments are built by more than 1 person.

No one believes scum fake reveal lovers on D-day, and doing it before that would just draw a test, in my experience.

Lovers with a shared role are not without the boundaries of M&P. Nor do I see why it could only be lovers - people code their role all the time to back up later reveals to show it isn't just spur of the moment.

Scum coding to fake reveal is possible, I just don't really see the benefit of putting it on thread at this point when the chances of it being inno seem at least just as high and, imo, higher than the chances of it being scum.
