So Grief, what are you studying at uni?

Majoring in English. It's good mostly, though can vary a lot depending on what piece you're studying. The pretentious stereotype can be remarkably true, of the students and the professors, which gets irritating at times but is mostly just amusing.

A fellow Arts man, excellent. I was afraid you'd be one of those medical types like Gust, or, even worse, a lawyer like Ment. I did History, just completed my PhD a while back and now doing a post-doc. And yes, a lot of the stereotypes are true here too. Like academics living in their ivory tower thinking their research is the most important thing in the universe etc. But the freedom is awesome.

Cool, I'm doing modules of modern history for a couple of years until I switch to pure English for honours.

What particular part did you specialise in?

Medieval. Totally accidental. As an undergraduate I never got any of the top courses I chose - always got like my fourth choice, which was always a medieval history course, and ended up doing all of them. To top it off, in one of my first ever classes (a general historiography one), we were all asked what the first word to come to our head when we thought of medieval history was, and I said, 'Boring.' Little realising our lecturer was a medievalist. I think they probably made sure I was forced to take all the medieval modules after that :)

But I ended up really enjoying it, did it for a master's, and then a PhD as I want to stay in academia.

Haha, awkward dissing your lecturers subject.

Accidentally did that with my tutors favourite book but luckily she didn't care, just got me to justify why I didn't like it in depth.

That's a cool bit of chance though. Amazing how such small things can have such a big impact.

Tell me about it. I've ended up specialising in late medieval/early Renaissance Italy, and I have little to no idea how that happened. But if that means jetting off to Florence, Naples, and Mantua, as I am tonight, then so be it :) The downsides is the pay - or general lack of it, the constant applying for funding, and about 400 people applying for every job.

I'm sure I had that information kicking around somewhere in my brain.

Damn, that's some perk.

Best travel I'm likely to get is the chance to trudge around some moors.

Living by these rules, "Admit nothing, deny everything, launch counterattack," I not only deny that accusation, but now have a query for you. So you saw that your desire for JA to get lynched probably wasnt going to happen so you decided to find a new target, dkt. You are just running around yelling at everyone to see who you are actually able to start a train on, are you not? You had JA as super scummy yesterday, and with a new day you just happen to forget about him in favor of a meta argument cause dkt wasn't aggressive enough? He seemed pretty aggressive against spam...

Hehe.

I think I might go read the end of the game thread just to see how people reacted to that particular stratagem.

He took a stand on a general topic to show token grumpiness, then completely failed to go after any player with anything like his usual doggedness.

I don't like JA's vote but I've already pushed on that and no one seemed interested.
