My inner pessimist feels like five years from now we'll be looking back at this moment as the one that triggered the dissolution of the USA.

243 years of democracy/republic. Not a great run if I'm honest.

But if nothing else, this has proven that 'checks and balances' stoped working the minute everything became about tribal loyalty, power, and money. The Founders of the US never assumed that the parties would descend into this type of insanity.

But then they probably also assumed that enough of the populace would go out and vote and CARE about being ruled by a King and his sycophantic enablers (on the back of having been ruled by a king initially and rebelled against it)....but here we fucking are.

Also, is it unfair to say that things have been headed here since the election of 2000 was basically handed to Bush Jr by SCOTUS?

I'm no scholar, but I feel like Obama in '08 ('09) was the initial crux point where the divide started to become a chasm because the GOP/Right went so very up in arms and stayed there, and Trump 2016 was probably where it became irreparable because it prompted the Dems/Left to the equivalent (or if it didn't the next four years will).

2024 will be telling.

Unless of course Trump manipulates himself into a 3rd term, with Ivanka as VP, so that when he dies a Trump inherits the White House.

I feel like a Trump family dynasty/dictatorship is a scary but entirely POSSIBLE course of events. That should terrify everyone in the US.

I'm not sure what prevents that. Protests will do jack shit, for example to prevent this stuff. The Administration and the Senate simply do not care.

Can we give a round of applause to the man behind all of this shit though? I've been telling people for years that the truly scary Republican Don Mitch McConnell was the one that would fuck our country past the point of no return, and he's clearly meet his goal.

Seriously, fucker could teach the Sith a thing or three.

Michael Bloomberg has got this. He going to spend upward of 3 billys to see a new occupant of the White House some next Jan. We'll have to give up our Super Big Gulps though, but I'm okay with that.

Then he should support Sanders or Warren instead of throwing his own hat in the ring.

Frankly, Bloomberg's scared of having the uber-rich actually contribute to society just like the rest of them.

Agreed. Mitch McConnell is both incredibly skilled and thoroughly vile. Truly he's the gravedigger of democracy. Trump gets more headlines, but in my opinion McConnell is by far the more dangerous evil.

One hundred percent.
Bloomberg is an unelectable empty suit. He's basically elitism personified. With Bloomberg we'd be relying entirely on people hating Trump, rather than liking anything about the Democratic candidate. People are not going to stand in line for hours in november to vote for a milquetoast wall street guy.

The Bloomberg thing is amazing. Can’t google trump without seeing his attack adds yet as you say he is like a third force rather than a real democratic candidate. He won’t qualify for any debates based on the model that’s been set up. Must drive trump nuts to see a billionaire spend so much, or perhaps he finds it funny given that he spends none of his money.

It seems a problem in democratic leadership and cohesion that everyone seems to think they can do the job better and go it alone. Meanwhile the republicans are marching in lock step and doing everything they can to make sure thay trump doesn’t even have to face a republican challenger.

The Democrats seem to no longer have a cohesive message. Outside the American system joe Biden and Bernie sanders would be in different parties rather than in opposite camps of the same one.

I see that 2 of the 3 possible republicans considered possibles to vote for witnesses have confirmed they won’t

Edit- How does Bernie get away with running as a democratic president but being and independent senator?

Well that’s that then...no witnesses for the trial.

How you all aren’t protesting this en masse in the streets in the millions Hong Kong style is beyond me.

Urgh, get ready for Trump to brag about his own greatness again.

Lincon and JFK got shot and they were pretty decent presidents from the very little I know of American history. Why does the orange creature get to walk around spouting insanity without penalty?

I'm not sure calling for an assassination is putting you on the moral high ground, really.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

I really need to find a site that introduces Canadian men to American women that would like to move to Canada through marriage.

I thought Americans were free to just go to Canada?

It's broken record bullshit anyway. Every election or when things don't go a certain segments way (usually rich, privileged entertainment biz folks) they threaten to move to Canada, but never do. It's all histrionics to make people feel better I guess. More Canadians come to America than the other way around (and usually the of worst them). Please take Bieber back, STAT.

Don’t be a hater. I’m just planning for contingency in case Trump gets 4 more years and the US continues to go to shit under a Trump rule.

I don’t think I can adequately express the horror of the thought of 4 more years of this....
