Probably nothing different from his usual spiel; just a different platform. (I didn't watch it; I worked in the yard all day and I just don't feel like it. I watched last night's Maddow earlier and that about taxed me.)

I'm sure I misunderstood it greatly, and it will make more sense when I find it. :) I just read something yesterday about a Japanese fund trying to corner the copper market not so long ago, but I've already forgotten where I read it. Taibbi has written about the various opaquities of the oil market, and how for example certain SWFs might have partnerships to deliberately drive up oil prices (without hoarding a drop), but I still don't understand how that works exactly.

I think you need to broaden your reading beyond Taibbi considerably. He's okay in small doses, but he's not the most trustworthy, explanation-giving guy you'll come across out there.

Vengy, while I have your ear/attention, would you mind answering one short question? I promise to go no further on this topic:

Quote

The issue is that Bain did not increase the companies profits or make it leaner rather they used the cash flow to increase the debt and then used that debt to pay themselves and as a direct result the company went bankrupt.

Bain would go to firms like Goldman Sachs for the loans. Would the loan-givers be gullible enough to give Bain the big loans, watch as Bain sucks cash out of a profitable company, and then lose millions when KB Toys/the company files for bankruptcy later? Did this happen?

Also, I really, really wish that Michelle Obama would pull a Hillary Clinton and go into politics herself after Barack is done. She could even do the Illinois version of the route Hillary took.

I'm not sure why you think I only read Taibbi, especially considering I recommended the same thing earlier in the thread (read Taibbi alongside experts). I find him to be generally trustworthy, i.e. saying the same thing as the experts most of the time, but I read critiques of his writing fairly regularly (on top of other things that have nothing to do with his writing). I like him because of his style but he's far from my only source.

Amp you always have my attention. :)

In the case of kb The debt at bk was roughly 376 million.
Bain 18 mil investment to 85 mil dividend
Carlyle Group investment 287 mil pay out 415 million
These payouts include the 124 mil in cash that was in the pension.

So everybody got there's... :) sorry about short explanation I am on my phone.

Eh, the extortion attempt puts a bad light on it either way. I'm all for hacking stuff the public needs to know about for the sake of justice, but this is just weird. PwC says they weren't actually hacked, and Anonymous says it wasn't them (not that that means much really).

With the caveat that I'm sure there's something fishy in Romney's tax-records I'm going to have to say that I'm not sure that hacking them would be a good course of action.

Simply because we can't be sure what they'll reveal. Yes, like I said, there's probably something fishy in them, but then again, there might very well be nothing of interest. And if that's true, then what? Suddenly the hackers trying to play the good guys have suddenly "lived long enough to see themselves becoming the villains"

But I guess I can rest easy knowing that it won't matter all that much who wins the presidency. It'll have something effect, I think, but not as much as some people think (Though probably more than I think)
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Not sure if this is the right place for this,

http://homes.yahoo.c...TAcXDH-UwCY#_=_

Has it / will it become an issue during the race to be Pres ?

Surely being owned by the Canadalandians is an issue for the Rep's.
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.

Yeah I just saw that PWC says that they weren't hacked. Personally I hope that it is real and that they just go and release them. But it is probably bullshit because I am sure that Romney files a bunch of forms and not the 1040Ez form... ;)

Not an issue. I say the more the merrier. As long as homes are being bought I don't care who is buying them. They are going to have to pay taxes just like everyone else. Get the homes off the market drive my home value back up and get municipality taxes flowing again. ;)

You telling me Romney doesn't use TurboTax?
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

He probably uses the Premier edition. It is too pricy for me but on the back of my deluxe it shows that there are a lot of extra check marks on the Premier for things that I don't know about.

Nah his million dollar a year accounting firm uses TurboTax Premier. It is too complicated for anyone without a BS in Reaganomics.

Holy shit! I just watched Bill Clinton's speech... No wonder you guys voted for him... twice! Hell, I kinda wanted to vote for him myself after watching that! I saw a report that said something along the lines of "The Big Dog brings a Big Stick"; which really didn't undersell things at all. The Republicans are probably going to have to do a lot to get attention away from the evisceration he just performed on them.

I like Obama, he actually seems like a smart, decent guy, who you could have an intelligent and interesting chat with over a few homebrews... But Clinton, that guy has to be one of the most charismatic politicians ever. If he was evil he'd probably be ruling the world right now Posted Image

It's probably a shame that his epitaph will read "Couldn't keep it in his pants..."
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Bertrand Russell

The best thing about his speech is that almost all the facts check out exactly as he said them: http://www.politifac...tic-convention/

It's a terrific thing to be a speech giver like Clinton is, however, it is really, really awesome to have him tell what is essentially the truth (while pushing a certain perspective though). Lot of people on both sides of the political divide like to shade or gloss things over so they sound better.
