Primarily it's the economic infeasibility, coupled now with the strong national party systems.
Recent examples of new third-party movements are too idealistic (Unity) or too unfocused (Reform). Or in the case of Liberarians, too intellectually honest
I wish we had more choices. I vote for the third-party guys if I have no other preference.

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

It is basically a consequence of the winner takes all system. All those other tings; money, contacts and so on are symptoms of that flaw.

Yep the chance of us going any other way then red or blue is probably 1 in 3 billion. but year after year we bitch and bitch about the Dem messing things up then the Republicans mess things up. then we dont change shit because we only give each person 4 years to change a country.
that being said if we gotta go one way why not the Ron Paul way.
Ps. at least Rick Perrys not in the race.

Because Ron Paul is a godawful Randian moron and implementing his ideas would lead to disaster after disaster.

Well, for those of us complaining that shit in the government is all corrupt now and blah yaddah etc, remember that the system has always been this corrupt. Hell, it was waay more corrupt a while ago than it is now. The only difference between then and now is that awareness is up, so they must be more careful. This awareness has been helping halt corruption, not by a lot, of course, but every little bit helps.
Now, what were we talking about again? Obama? That white guy? Hell, sorry for interrupting.

Didn't truly realize how bad the modern political ads are until I reached a swing state (Iowa). I saw a handful of Romney ads that were telling flat out lies, as well as some Coal Power ones that were some of the most blatantly jingoistic, simplistic nonsense I've ever seen.
Wow. I have no idea how these things don't set off BS meters in adults. Do people really trust what comes out of their television sets that much? Well... Nicodimas seems to (joking).

People/small businesses don't understand marginal tax rates, GOP takes advantage, the mega wealthy grin like the Cheshire Cat. Good synopsis:

Yeah, I noticed Romney going on about it, I forget where, how small businesses would suffer, and I'm thinking, dear god I can't wait for the debates where Obama can call him on this bullshit.

Yo, that's my president:
Obama's favorite Girl Scout cookie: Thin mints
There was some more booing on the campaign trail Monday — this time of President Obama at a campaign event in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The reason?
Some in the crowd disagreed with the president's choice of his favorite Girl Scout cookie.
In response to a question from a little girl who said her name was Julie, Obama told the crowd, "I've gotta say that I'm pretty partial to those mint (cookies)."
Some in the crowd yelled out "Thin Mints!" Others appeared to boo.
"I didn't mean to create controversy here," Obama responded. "Did you hear, there was somebody booing? What was your choice? Who was booing up there? He had a different opinion. What are you, oatmeal? Peanut butter is quite good too. But I'm going with the mint."
According to the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, Obama has a quarter of the cookie-eating public on his side.
Thin Mints are the best-selling Girl Scout cookie, representing 25 percent of all Girl Scout cookie sales, followed by 19 percent for Samoas/Caramel deLites, 13 percent for Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs, 11 percent for Peanut Butter Sandwich/Do-Si-Dos.
In last place were Shortbread/Trefoils, with 9 percent, and other varieties accounted for the remaining 23 percent.

I'm just waiting for a "war on shortbread" comment from Fox News.
RE Vengeance's story:
Ol Rachel Maddow had plenty to say about the Bain Capital management controversy linked by Vengeance above. One of the major US papers (boston globe iirc) unearthed some pretty damning evidence. They found corporate documents that show him as sole shareholder and CEO well into the 2000s, despite his claims that he stopped managing the company in 1999. He also was paid 6 figures for being the CEO all that time despite the fact that he claimed he wasn't doing anything whatsoever for bain.
There was also some testimonial he gave back in the early 2000s to prove he was a massachussets resident despite living in Salt Lake City back when he ran for governor of massachussets. He included business travel and meetings (which one must assume were at Bain Capital) as one of the main reasons why he returned often enough to be considered a resident.
There were a few other things that I forget at the moment, but journalists seem to have amassed enough evidence that Romney has been forced to go on national TV on all stations (except msnbc) to repeat his (allegedly) false message that he retired from Bain in 1999.
Who knows if it will amount to anything. He'll likely just keep lying about it until everybody gets tired of asking....which is pretty consistent with his record on the issue so far.
And on a more important note, where in fuck did your nation get all those other varieties of girl guide cookies? I knew about the icing sandwich style ones that come with a row of chocolate and vanilla, and the more recent abominations termed "thin mints" but peanut butter? Dosidos? Caramel Delites? WTF???
