Is there talk that PC gaming is dying? I was under the impression it was on the rise with Steam. I for one see myself playing more PC games and less console games in the future--a big change for me.

It's sort of a stupid discussion that has arisen from interviews with various console focused companies and popular figure heads like Douchebag CEO Bobby Koltic. It is said that PC gaming is dying because the consoles sell so many more copies than the PC. Of course every time you look at these numbers they are usually focused on brick and mortar stores and not Digital sales. Nobody knows exactly how many games Steam is selling for example because they keep those numbers secret.

Don't get too excited. I am really worried that they have completely fucked over the original fans of Mass Effect with the third game.

You have to play multiplayer levels to get benefits in the single player campaigns.

Actually you'll be able to get the same benefits by doing stuff in the single player mode OR playing multiplayer, it's not a fixed thing. See, I said something nice about a recent Bioware game! Without mentioning the fembot fuckin- ARGH DAMN IT

Here is that list narrowed down to what I'm looking forward to and will probably buy (I actually already have Diablo III!). Boycotting Heart of the Swarm.
Biggest title for me personally is Thi4f - I'm an oldschool Thief fan and I really, really hope they can learn from the mistake that was Deadly Shadows.
Second row belongs to D3, ME3, Darksiders 2 and Risen 2, equally. Carmageddon and Tomb Raider I'm interested in out of curiousity (the original Carmageddon was fucking awesome; Tomb Raider - reboot, right?)

I used to absolutely adore PC gaming (I still play BG2 when I want some good old fashioned fun) but tbh there are very few titles in that list that really have me excited. Aside from Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 3 I can't really say that I'd absolutely buy any of them. I do have a PS3 and I tend to use it more than the PC, except for some MMO's...and I don't even play those very much these days either, not since my LOTRO stopped working. ;)

I don't personally believe that PC gaming is dead but I think the fact that lots of people buy laptops these days instead of desktops might have something to do with the dip in sales. Anyway! Whatever the reason, I doubt PC games will ever really vanish but it is nice to see that they are still getting made too!

What? Can you imagine the fan reactions after they've gone to such lengths to create a personal experience for each individual across the games? A worrying thought.

Still, the concept of letting you develop your story through three games is a brilliant one, and the main reason why I'll buy ME3 no matter.

I did a replay of Neverwinter Nights + both expansions this fall and I found myself pretty annoyed by how my choices did not carry over into the expansion stories.

The same with Assassins Creed for that matter. When It occured to me that there wasn't any point to doing all the little side details in Brotherhood because it wouldn't carry over anyways made me say fuck it and run through the main story in a few hours.

at least, that was the impression I got. ME refuses to run on my laptop (which can handle DA:O, Witcher 2, DXHR and Arkham City), so i'm ambivalent on the whole ME issue.

Your decisions alter the game unless they interfere with the story the developers want to tell, like the NPCs you can have killed or kill directly in Dragon Age Origins returning in Dragon Age 2 linked saves or not. Bioware are eating themselves from the inside out.

Is this a steam copy? Does it simply crash when you try to start it?

I couldn't get the game to run either but apparently simply setting it as "run by administrator" or something like that made it run perfectly.

nope, got it direct off EA. it crashes on startup, due to it not liking my intell POS videocard.

now, I can understand that, but if same videocard can launch the-Witcher-f-ing-TWO (which came out 3 years later and has a reputation of a "the new Crysis" for hardware), not to mention , Bioware's own DA:O, which came out a year later, I become ambivalent. At least till I have the time to play it on my new PC (not before summer, and not untill I work through a huge pile of other games)

don't need origin. Use Origin to D/l, and can launch the game w/o Origin, or Steam. In fact, I disabled origin from running on startup. it's quite handy that way, actually.

didn't try activsting on Steam, no reason to. I got DA:O the same way, and it runs just fine on its own.

EDIT: in more exciting news (though possibly not 2012-related), Firaxis of Civilization fame announced a new strategy X-com game.

Prey 2 (due to Bladerunner concept)
Metro: Last light (metro 2033 was decent)
Spy Party (sounds like mafia)
Tomb Raider (likely to be shit, because it's TR, but I remain hopeful)
King Arthur 2 (likely to be full of good ideas and lousy execution)
Shadow run (awesome concept & setting, but I've heard the formula a gazillion times and they all lead to failures)
The Darkness 2 (because Jackie Estacado and the Darklings rule - one of the first comics I collected)
World of Darkness

Dishonoured (Dark Messiah was a great, underrated game)
Dead State (Annie and Brian are pros, been consulting my main forum for advice and working under Iron Tower on a survival-focused turn-based CRPG; sounds like it could be the best thing ever)
Risen 2 (Risen 1 was good)
Xenonauts (because X-Com)
Dragon Commander (love Larian, sounds... interesting, at least)
Prototype 2 (first one was a fun diversion, if they build on it it could be a great game)
Overgrowth (still need to play Lugaru, but sounds great)


But most of all, Age of Decadence. Been impatiently waiting for this game for over five years, gotten to know VD pretty well. At this point, I'll be disappointed with anything less than the finest Fallout-style CRPG ever.
