Fair enough.

The Omnibuses that they used to print have been discontinued as they SLOWLY re-release all the titles singly with new art (AFAIK)...I got the first two fairly easy, but the 3rd Omnibus was already out of print and I lucked out at a random store that had one, otherwise I'd have been screwed (the Omnibuses are selling for $$$ on amazon now).

Your best bet might be Abe Books, Book Depository, or another used book outlet. But they won't be cheap.

I read a decent smattering of the 40k novels back when GGs and the Ragnar books first were released. Always lots of fun. My local Barnes and Nobles has the Warhammer omnibuses of Nagash and Sigmar. I've been tempted, but an concerned that it will lead to me wanting to put together a Fantasy army.

Nah, Gaunt's Ghosts is more like demented Band of Brothers with 100x the chaos demons, corrupted people, and evil monsters.

The other Space Marines stuff is like the Trojan War in Iron Man suits. The first one he made that couldn't fly and had a bigass flamethrower to roast enemies.

Nah, it's probably the most true to the original 80's mashup of dark humour that 40k was, back when Orcs were basically football hooligans in space. The setting went Grimdark, but Cain is a welcome nod back to the daft madness that percolated through the setting in the late 80s/early 90s (for me at least)

The omnibuses being discontinued in a monumentally stupid idea by GW (they've had plenty recently though). Those omnibuses put them on the map and have sold millions. Ditching them to re-release the books in single volumes is completely crazy.

That said, it does mean I don't have to wait until 3-4 years for the next GG or CAIN omnibuses and can get the individual volumes now, so I can get back into them sooner. That's something of a positive, I suppose.

Afaik it all started in white dwarf and the other 40k magazines, short stories and the like. Ghosts were the first commisioned novels in the universe. Not sure on the timeline but the IP has been around a long long time

^That. I was referring more to the background IP from the games than the novels. The old games had a broad streak of cynical humour that Cain encapsulates perfectly.

So this rather obscure little bookplace I know is having a huge clearance sale, mainly trying to sell off slightly damaged and soiled copies. I am picking up a lot of things on the cheap but pride of place goes to this unnaturally huge number of warhammer books they have

I have so far picked up Eisenhorn, Ravenor, the rest of the Gaunts Ghosts, Ultramarines. There still seem to be a bunch left. I plan to go back next week.

Any suggestions for books i should look out for?

Ciaphas Cain is some of the best WH40k out there. Any books by Dan Abnett, Graham McNeill, Gav Thorpe, Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Nick Kyme are also worth it (they write most of the Horus Heresy series, with some works by less good writers interspersed, as well as their own series).
