Season 2 Thread Countdown to April

First real glimpses of season 2 aired in an "In Production" special on HBO today:
I decided to start a new thread to catch all the season 2 hype rather than just going to the old "Watched it" season one thread that's a monster now.

Yeah, that Production video gives us very little, but nice to see SOMETHING. I'll expect we'll see a proper trailer in late December or January.

So apparently (reported today) HBO is tentatively going to buy not just a 3rd season, but a 4th as well. With Season 2 covering ACOK, 3 and 4 will cover ASOS. That's a huge commitment on HBO's part and truly shows their support of the show....
that makes me HAPPY!

We reported on this in another post, but the rumors continue to swirl and so we thought it deserved its own post. We are now hearing from multiple sources that HBO plans to order both seasons three and four and film them back-to-back (à la Lord of the Rings). It has already been confirmed that A Storm of Swords would be covered in more than one season. From what we have heard, much of the film crew in Northern Ireland has been told of this plan and has been advised to expect nine months of filming next year. Winter Is Coming: I have no doubt that this is an option that HBO is exploring, perhaps even leaning towards, but I don’t think it is a done deal just yet. HBO likely won’t announce anything official until season two begins, so they could change their minds before then.
It does make sense though, to do it this way, as they’ve already said they will be splitting book three into multiple seasons. This way they get the whole of the book filmed in one go, saving on production costs and keeping the kids from aging in between seasons.

My guess is they (HBO) more or less already have their minds made up about this, but aren't going to do anything OFFICIAL until season two premieres and the numbers come in. I feel fairly confident the numbers will be good, and--just like with season one--I think we'll get word of the next seasons being greenlit (well, at least 3.. 3 and 4 would make sense for all the reasons the WiC post cites) not long after the first ep of season 2.

I would wager that if it goes to Book 4 and 5 that those two books will each be handled with 1 season each...and the extraneous filler that we have all complained about in those books will be chopped down A LOT for screenplays.

Also on winter-is-coming there is a rumour afoot that a character who doesn't die in book 2 will die in S2.
Of course, this is painfully wide open to everyone from Sir-Barely-Appearing-In-This-Episode to any of the Stark kids.

As I said before, HBO will take more and more liberties with the source material, because we all know that eventually they have to come up with some kind of closure by themselves anyway. No way Martin will be ready by the time the TV series has plowed through Feast and Dance (if it even goes there).

Likely, tho not certain. Various comments suggests everyone involved are keeping their options open.
They have a built in option at any point to have Dany's dragons chomp some Others and then declare sweet victory over evil and all live happily ever after the end please buy the Blu-Ray boxed set thank you.

Dillane is going to absolutely, 100% nail Stannis. That voiceover was just perfect.

Hoooooo boy, anybody else see the trailer premier?
http://winteriscomin...trailer-is-here
Excellent, IMO. Would've liked to see more, of course. But for the first full length trailer, thought it was top notch.
Seems more or less official that without Sean Bean to pull all the promo stuff, they're stepping up Dinklage/Tyrion.
