@D'rek -> So you give me a healing ability, no even guess that the emperor would heal everyone on my tile, no knowledge of who the rest of my team is, and expect me to do anything but heal my emperor? If he is lynched it would have changed, but since he is the sole point of knowledge for my kingdom, healing him remains the correct move.

Karosis gets to heal himself and Korlat has a BP? Bullshit ;)

Also, I'm a twat because I put in a joke NA? Wow I had no idea you guys were so angry at me...

AH falling to the speed lynch. I should have pushed harder for Ment's support, but I didn't want to seem desperate to the point of irritation.

OK, looks like another night with no deaths:

Kill Korlat

Korlat, on 22 October 2011 - 03:53 PM, said:

Kill Emurlahn

Karosis, on 22 October 2011 - 04:28 PM, said:

Heal myself

Emurlahn, on 22 October 2011 - 01:17 PM, said:

damnit. a little too fast for my tastes.

heal spam luo Yang.

and fingers crossed Sheltatha can beat Korlat.

Both kills fail due to Emurlahn's catapults.

Someone destroy Ment already! Why is he even still alive? Why aren't the barbarians voting him off and get rid of those stupid healing catapults that have been the bane of every attempt at much-desired bloodletting!!!

If I had not decided to try to symp my way into Xia I would have hammered at his position since day 1. Its surprising that no one else have been going after him

Sheltatha won't vote off Emurlahn because then the White Riders can vote her off the following day ;). I still think if Sheltatha moves to Han Zhong then the game should be called a stalemate. There would be no way for the game to end, after all, provided that Sheltatha and Emurlahn don't do anything stupid.

I've got all night actions except Karosis'. However, since Korlat and Sheltatha are duelling (WHY? This is a loss rather than a draw for SL!), I figure I can just resolve and end the game - nothing Karosis does can make any difference.

the find came from the other faction, :p

What exactly is ninja-Shin's long-term plan here? Perhaps he means to run off the map and thus save himself? And why does Ment keep insisting on the bloody healing catapults? We could have a lovely massacre without them! Coward!!

because NAs ALWAYS fuck up my game. inevitably.
and this game I was in a perfect position to stop them. it was beautiful.

If you give someone a chance to heal themselves, they'll take it. It gives you the security of not having to worry about being NKed, and everyone likes that for the simple reason that deep down, everyone thinks of themselves as marginally more valuable than your average team member. In a faction game it's actually true - your team suffers more if you die than if a random player dies. That's why most people played cautiously at the beginning, and a lot of them are still playing cautiously now, IMO.

ST

I'm just praying that Barghy guards him. His reaction of "but I catapulted myself!" should soothe all our frustrations.

That's another interesting thing - no-one has chosen to guard anyone if they can do something else. I suspect that's because of the pairings of options for Civil/Military Officer. If you have a choice between Guard and Kill, then you'll pick Kill unless you have extra knowledge about a player (or you're acting in tandem with someone else). Why keep an an enemy in the game when you could take a pop at getting rid of him instead, right? But the fact is that teams do need Guards in this game - they are the counter to self-healers. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone without a self-heal ability has realised that's what is going on when their NAs fail, so they're not trying to guard. Plus, you'd need some off-thread comms to pull it off...

ST

This is very true. If Emur had been able to put me in contact with HP then He could have guarded karosis and I would have killed him.....Sniff

Venge, you are one fo the people that made it deadly obvious you were on my team.

then I got the illumination and you weren't in Luo Yang, unlike all the other Xia.

I immideately dicounted you as Xia.

I'm sorry.

Emurlahn I sent you a message on night 2 saying that HP was on our team. Did you not fucking listen? I had assumed that you thought both HP and Karosis were on our team since you were protecting both of them.

Karosis/Korlat - I think you are going to die, and it is because you did not side with the mighty Xia.

It is too bad we were so neutered at the end with no way of doing anything besides forcing a duel or guarding one out of two killers.

no
you told me Tiam was on my team. somethign I already knew

this
ah well.

great game, I enjoyed it greatly, though I seriously question the wisdom of making me a leader.

I freely admit, I gave little consideration to moving--a serious flaw in how approached htis game.

aside from that, I clearly got too preoccupied with that illumination on Night 5--it made me reconsider Venge as my player, even though he's been one of better xia up to that point.

I do not regret my continued tactical alliance with dkt, though--the day we lynched Galain, JLV started to openly make waves about me being emperor, and I wanted all the votes in Luo Yang on my side, regardless of the allegiance.

Tapper going "all in" was unwelcome, but I expected that possibility. I did my best to prepare for it.

later on, instead of lynching Telas, I should have pushed for a Sheltatha lynch. that was my gravest mistake all game, I think. I was caught by Yan's lie, and we were all take in by the "barbs=symmetry" assumption.

overall, great game..

oh, and haters gonna hate, but: HEALING CATAPULTS ROCK!!! considering they were the trademark of Rot3K since game 1, I think their prominence in this game is quite symbolic

on top of this, many thanks to D'rek for an amazing game.

and I told you all NA's would screw my over.....

Ignore this PM PS. Self note:
well, if we are to follow history (a tad of a risk, but still)

the 3 kingdomw were Wei (largest), Wu, and Shu

transposed onto the current makeup, we'd get:

wei=Xia (claim succession from the original Han dynasty, lost their chance to unite China at the battle of red Cliffs/Shang Yong (see game 4))

Wu=Yan (the souther kingdom, Huang river being the border)

Shu=Lu (the smallest, protected by numerous mountain passes on the border with Wei)

historically, Wei conquered Shu. then Sima Yi took over for Cao-Cao's descendants, and his dynasty conquered Wu.

by that logic, Sima Yi would be hiding amongst Wei (Xia)

although I agree that game-wise it'd make more sense to stick him with Yan.

You comparison of realms is off. It's not about what lands are whose, it's about the characters.

just, FYI, I told them all this.

Some of my thoughts on the game so far:

1. The two highest posters are Emperors. The next highest is a dead guy. After that is a Prime Minister and a Warlord. Wtf? The MOs/COs realize they're the least important roles, right?

2. Edrigan moving to Luo Yang was a huge blunder and is going to cost the Xia a lot. Looks like he regretted picking Civil and did it just to switch to Military. Regardless, he didn't realize that being in Xin Du kept the White Riders there and now they're in the capital where if they try to kill the PM or Emperor there's no blocking that can occur to stop them. And they got BPs.

3. Khellendros is playing his Nanman very conservatively. It's a safe bet, but given the terrible odds of picking someone in range at night, he'd be better off skipping the heals and doing double finds, and only once he finds a viable target going for a kill and healing the killer if necessary.

4. The Ma Chao killers, Sheltatha and Kaschan, should really be trying to signal to each other who they targeted each night so they don't repeat efforts...

5. A lot of people seem completely oblivious of day actions. Location and moving is very important. As Barghast has done, trying to move even when you're sure you can't is inforamtive in and of itself. Right now Hood's Path could move right into Han Zhong and the next Dawn his Emperor would learn of it and know Chang An is clear and could then start an offensive towards the Lu. And if you don't want to move, make a Notice! You can use a notice to tell your emperor who you are, to tell your teammates who you've found, etc. Right now, Yan is looking great because they've made smart moves towards the borders where they can actually accomplish NAs and they're using abilities to help each other (Barghast blocking, Tennes Illuminating his own location) instead of casting them blindly.

I thought you did a pretty good job of being the leader actually. You were able to use the support of your team pretty well to add force to your arguments. Even though by mid-game almost everyone thought you were a leader, no-one could act on it because you were deflecting onto others so well.

I was really kicking myself when I got to SH about not going after you more strongly on Day 1 (if you can remember that far back :unworthy:). I didn't put enough faith in my own reasoning, sadly, and let you off the hook. I'm not sure I'd have won given that you would have had plenty of defenders, but I'd have illuminated the Xia faction and things would probably have gone very differently.

Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.
