So, the third Serious Sam game has been on its way for a while, but I just discovered that they're also releasing a sidescoller on August 30th.

I'm kind of worried about the Serious Sam: BFE. This game along with the likes of Duke Nukem Forever and Hard Reset are supposed to bring back the old school feel of FPS shooters. I really hope it lives up to that.

I do wish they'd stop trying to "relive the magic". Just concentrate on making a solid new game on the same theme that will eventually become a classic of its own.

except Serious Sam is NOT like DNF. it incorporates NONE of the gameplay elements that shooters "evolved" in the last decade, and Croteam is perma-frozen in 1994, but with 2011 graphics engines at their disposal.

Ah but it is the old design of Serious Sam that was the magic. You could hold 10 weapons or so at a time. Most of them had different attacks/load out depending on whether you hit fire or alt fire. There was no reloading. No iron sights. Just endless waves of enemies in all shapes and forms. No attempt at being realistic or telling some kind of serious story. No characters to give a shit about. Just you and the hordes of enemies.
I miss that simplicity.

hmm, actually, I think iron sights are in this time. but optional as always.

Yeah I noticed that too, which is one of the reasons why I worry about the game. Iron sights are okay but I don't really want to rely on them for this game. If I want to kill something precisely far away I will use a god damn rocket launcher.

oh man I remember the 6-player LAN parties we used to have playing The Second Encounter. We used to burn through the whole game in one sitting...awesome fun
I do wish they wont go the way of Duke with 2 weapons and what not. As Apt said it was the simplicity of taking the biggest gun you could find and blast the hundreds of headless kamikazes coming at you was what made SS the beautiful game it is...hopefully it won't be ruined. Although to be honest i didn't really like SS2 the way I did the older ones, felt like it lost a bit of it's charm (or was too ridiculous even for SS standards). Maybe this will rectify things

When a man lies he murders
Some part of the world
These are the pale deaths which
Men miscall their lives
All this I cannot bear
To witness any longer
Cannot the kingdom of salvation
Take me home

once again, CroTeam never left 1994. all the weapons are available at once, as you pick them up. Sam doesnt' need no realism. he's too serious for that crap.

I have never heard of this game, perhaps I was under a rock somewhere - it looks interesting
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.
