Hey guys, I'm not sure if I'm really allowed to do this but I thought I'd let you all know that I have started up a film review blog and I would love for you all to check it out if you have the time. Seeing as I love film and am working towards writing and directing films it seems appropriate for me to write about films. Let me know what you think of the reviews. Obviously you don't have to agree with my opinion :)

Thanks!

Well, I went into this thinking that you couldn't possibly have worse taste in movies than Apt.

And you don't!

It seems like you have way more to say about movies like Planet of the Apes or Transformers 3 than you do the others. I saw background, comparison to other movies, director names, evaluations of director and actor careers and so on. It's fairly obvious to see where your passions lie. I'm not so sure your reviews would work well in a traditional newspaper, but here and in other places online, you'd probably find like-minded people who have similar tastes.

Except Apt. If he agrees with you, be wary.

I'm not exactly sure about Apt's taste in movies but I'm assuming it's....questionable?

Yeah I do like to delve deep into the making of certain films, providing a more detailed look at it and what themes and such might be conveyed in it. I am trying to be as concise as possible but it is hard when you have so much you want to write. I think it's good to give as much information as necessary when it comes to the people who made the film. It might encourage people to look at other films made by them.

Thanks for reading!

I haven't watched any of the movies you've reviewed so I stayed clear from all but the Planet of the Apes review. I like it. Better than most of the trash that gets printed, but that doesn't say much. If you pepper it with sections like "this week in movies/TV", pieces on actors, directors, franchises, etc. it could get interesting.

Right now I mainly follow Screened, especially their podcast, for movie news.

Oh and my taste in movies is,... lets call it eclectic.

I'd like to check out some smaller new films. I'm going to watch the doco 'Senna' when it's released. I guess it also comes down to how much time I have to actually go and see films.
I've found that a lot of criticism online is very extreme in its point of view. It's either hateful or fawning. It's hardly pleasant to read. I want my reviews to be a little more calmer, you could say.

Had a quick look at the site and it looks good (minor quibble, try to keep the font size the same through all posts).

I haven't seen most of the films you review thus far, but at least you have an opinion. I've heard such wildly differing reviews of TREE OF LIFE i was curious to see what you made of it.

Not sure if you are aware of it, but there is an excellent movie review podcast you might like to check out from BBC Radio, MARK KERMODE AND SIMON MAYO's FILM REVIEWS. It's a good mix with Simon doing the everyman set-up question, while Mark occasionally goes off on an epic rant (or gushes effusively for some low-budget indie flick). While i won't always agree with Mark Kermode's opinions, I do at least respect his reasoning for why he does (or doesn't) like a film, and on many occasions I have actively sought out some of the more obscure movies he reviewed.

I think you've made a good start, and I look forward to seeing how it evolves from here.

The font size is now uniform. Thanks.
You're not wrong about The Tree of Life. It took me some time to actually decide whether I actually liked it or not. My friend had the same conundrum and she eventually decided she didn't like it. It's funny because she was able to say a lot of positive things about it. It's just one of those films that conveys a different meaning or feeling to different people.
I think that's what I'd like to achieve with my reviews. People may not necessarily agree with my opinion but at least they'd have respect for it.
I would like to expand, in time, to doing in depth analysis' of certain films as well looking back on films to see how they look through the prism of time. There are a few directions I can take it. I'd like to review more obscure films, especially if they're good. It might help to encourage people to check them out.
Thanks for all the feedback Posted Image

Just in case any of you want to take a look, I have a couple of new reviews for Hanna and Captain America for your reading pleasure. But don't take too much pleasure out of reading them. It's just a review Posted Image
