Pretty much everything that cerveza has said. Any wood cutting board will be fine for those knives. Do not use plastic or glass unless you want to be sharpening your knives after every use. I personally don't like honing rods because I find I have better control using a good stone. (This is what I use for honing, but even a 4000 or 6000 grit would be fine for most people especially if the blade is stainless. I just got a little carried away when I was at the store)

Especially when you can hand your jackknife to a friend and say "careful that's mega sharp", after which they inevitably run their thumb over the edge and slice it like a dumbass. My favourite.

I have never, ever understood that technique. It is so retarded...
Just run your thumb perpendicular to the blade. Gives you a much better idea of sharpness without any damage.

Picked up a Canon G12 camera for when the baby comes

Quick startup, bright flash (for a built-in), big front optic, mag-aluminium alloy body, swivel screen, HD video, dedicated knobs for the important settings like ISO/EV/Aperture/Shutter so that you can actually shoot manual should you wish (except electronic manual focus is crappy....but who cares), rangefinder, mega fast auto focusing, vibration compensation, surprisingly competent full-auto mode, surprisingly close focus distance in macro mode, . The software even does an approximation on the screen of what your shutter/EV/aperture settings will look like in manual mode, so you don't have to rely solely on the light meter. All in all pretty tits. The wife and I were shooting up a storm with it over the weekend and it takes utterly fantastic pics for a relatively inexpensive camera.

We got a good deal on it too. Futureshop only had 1 left in the entire region and it was on clearance (because of the G15 model coming out this year). The thing also shipped sans-battery and they discounted us the price of a battery too. 500 dollar camera becomes 350 bucks. Then I went online to some aftermarket battery distributor and got 3 batteries, each with 1.5x the capacity of the original for half the price of a genuine canon one.

So pleased with myself.
