I would like to establish first of all that I am attempting to create a thread that maintains a rigorous and narrow OP with the intention of being more encyclopedic than spam-y (unusual so far for me, I know).

That being said, I am beginning the member defining great reread and I have a particular interest in prophecies, speculating on those that have not been fulfilled by SE up to the end of The Crippled God and Crack'd Pot Trail or ICE up to the end of Stonewielder, and for fulfilled prophecies, referencing and quoting the resolution(s) to a particular prediction.

I also am aware that there are many threads that already broach the topic of various prophecies or readings of the deck, and so I hope to have us copy links of those thread here to give credit where credit is due. I would ask at least that the results of such linked threads be summed up so as to make this thread more of a reference work.

FORMAT AND RULES:
I ask the community to at least try to hold to the following general format:

1) If you bring up a prophecy:
a) quote it
b )name the book it can be found in (GotM, DG, MoI, etc)
c) provide either the chapter or sub-book (Book 1, 2, 3 etc) that it can be found in.

2) If you speculate on a prophecy please:
a) state where you are in the series (e.g. I haven't read SW or CPT all the way through) so that we do not get flooded with people trying to speculate on things most of the rest of those who have finished the series
b ) if you know the answer to a speculation proposed by someone who isn't up to date with all released books, please try to provide a closure to the prophecy, again to prevent this thread from becoming overwhelmed by spam (I am hoping for a reference thread)

3) If you resolve a prophecy in part or in full:
a) again quote the resolutions (or if they are too long and unwieldy give a summary)
b ) name the book it can be found in (GotM, DG, MoI, etc)
c) provide either the chapter or sub-book (Book 1, 2, 3 etc) that it can be found in.
d) if only part of the prophecy is resolved, please point this out for clarity's sake

I will follow this shortly with an example, namely the first prophecy I found from Rigga the Wax Witch at the start of GotM.

Thank you all!!!

Prophecy:
In GotM, Book 1 (Pale), Chapter 1, Rigga ("Riggalai the Seer, the wax-witch who trapped souls in candles and burned them. Souls deveoured in flame") accosts the fisherman's daughter (later to be called Sorry and then Apsalar) and tells her:

"Across the sea the Empress has driven her knife into virgin soil. The blood now comes in a tide and it'll sweep you under, child, if you're not careful. They'll put a sword in your hand, they'll give you a fine horse, and they'll send you across that sea. But a shadow will embrace your soul. Now listen! Bury this deep! Rigga will preserve you because we are linked, you and I. But it is all I can do, understand? Look to the Lord spawned in Darkness; his is the hand that shall free you, though he'll know it not--"

And thus it ends abruptly when an outrider shouts at her (probably there was more to come, but who knows).

And I would like to make sure I link to this thread, where already Wampyry has mentioned this prophecy and discussed its resolution briefly: http://forum.malazan...=1

Edit: adding credit linky.

Are you writing more? What do you make of the prophecy?
Apt is the only one who reads this. Apt is nice.

Reveal:

Ok well obviously right after this prediction, Shadowthrone and Cotillion appear and Cotillion possesses the fishergirl (Sorry), shadow embracing her soul.

The other piece of the puzzle, probably the main prediction, is a reference to the Lord spawned in Darkness freeing Sorry from her possession. This comes about in GotM, Book 4 (Assassins), Chapter 15 where Anomander Rake ("The Knight of High House Dark, the Son of Darkness, the lord with the black sword and its deadly chains. Ruler of Moon's Spawn") confronts Shadowthrone over the hounds after killing two of them when they attacked Paran with Dranipur. Rake also demands that Cotillion be recalled (inadvertently freeing Sorry of the Rope's possession):

"One last point," Shadowthrone said, a giggle escaping him, "I am not responsible for whatever actions the Rope might take against you."
A smile entered Rake's tone. "Convince him of the wise course, Shadowthrone. I have no patience for your games. If I am pushed, by either you, your Hounds, or by the Rope, I'll make no distinction. I will assail the Shadow Realm, and you are invited to try to stop me."
"You lack all subtlety," the god said sighing. "Very well." He paused and shadows swirled around him. "He has been recalled. Forcibly extracted, as it were. The field is yours once again, Anomander Rake. The Malazan Empire is all yours, as is Oponn," Shadowthrone added.

____

And that should complete that circle. Good hunting.

Here's this one. MT,page 207-208. Feather Witch's casting:

"The Knight strides his own doomed path, soon to cross blades with his own vengeance."

And of course in TtH Rake clashes blades ,and eventually dies, with Dassem Ultor who is wielding Vengeance, rake's previous sword.
