As the years of campaign went on and on, Sima Yi had ample opportunity to meet with generals and ministers within and without the Yan court. A masterful speaker, he convinced most that the Yan Emperor's rule was cruel, corrupt and was losing its legitimacy as a contender for following the Han. For those whom he could not convince he arranged misfortunes of one sort or another. His influence and rank rose and he began plotting his usurpation of the Yan throne with his sons. Sima Shi said, "Yuan Shao did not make the rule of Xia continuous with that of Han by receiving its last emperor's abdication, instead forcing the Emperor from the throne and proclaiming it himself. From this came rival claims of legitimacy, the Lu and Yan." "That indeed is a precedent we should not follow," Sima Yi agreed. "Let us instead build an altar to receive the abdication of Emperor Zhong by his own word. Once he sees he has last all and it is his only way to survive he will agree to it."
Delighted, Sima Yi took his sword and entered the palace the next day. He stepped onto the stairs leading up to the throne and spoke to the Emperor loud enough for all to hear "In my judgment Your Majesty has proven ill informed as to the true way of government and is unable to defend the kingdom militarily. Should you not step aside for a ruler with the necessary talent and virtue?" Huang Zhong was dumbfounded. A courtier, Zhang Jie, protested but Sima Yi shouted "The dynamic altars belong to the great Han, have you forgotten? The Yan now possesses half the empire by the strength of the house of Sima, not of Huang - as the world well knows. Why should I not inherit the reign of Yan?" So saying, Sima Yi ordered his guards to beat Zhang Jie to death in the throne hall with the golden ceremonial mace. Huang Zhong shouted for the apprehension of Sima Yi, but the majority of the guards and officials alike held back their comrades and supported Sima Yi. Satisfied, Sima Yi rose and left the hall, followed by his supporters.
On the first cyclical day in the twelfth month Huang Zhong, the seal of state held high in both hands, ascended the altar in front of a grand congregation of civil and military officials. Next, Sima Yi was requested to ascend the altar and accept the abdication. Sima Yi received the seal and then, as protocol dictated, invited his supporters onto the altar where he began assigning rewards in rank and land to those who had assisted his usurpation. Ignored by the crowd, Huang Zhong slowly edged towards the altar entrance, then turned and bolted as fast as he could. Sima Yi noticed and called for guards to chase after him, but before the words had left his mouth one of the outer guards dropped his helmet, revealing himself to be Wei Yan. Yan quickly lit a torch he had concealed in his sleeve and hurled it at the altar. The alchemical munition powder, rubbed into the wood of the altar by Huang Zhong's saboteurs during the night, immediately burst into flame. In moments, Sima Yi and his supporters were nothing but ash.
Telas (Morgoth) is dead. He was Sima Yi, King of Jin, an Usurper of the Yan Dynasty.

That's a real pity, because it is midnight here and I really wanted to read that death-scene. Oh well.

my subordinates often fail to see the brilliance of my plans, and seek to please me by taking the shortest path.
alas, this is not Earwa, and they are not the Dunyain. the shortest path often proves to be treacherous.
