I don't think it was painful at all. I think they handled and resolved it as best as could be hoped for! And Mari's little whisper at the end was heartwarming :(

General roundup:

Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san continues to be a nice time filler, even if there isn't much actually going on. Same with Yurucamp - both very nice shows to chill out to.

I've picked up Lewdness in the Botts, which is proving to have two things in abundance: lewdness and bots. The story seems to be winding up which is nice, but generally it's the manic action sequences I'm here for.

The Ryou's Work is Never Done! carries on. There's some conflict and space for character growth now which is nice.

Citrus is... interesting. It's moving away from the yuri and onto developing the characters in different ways.

Death March is actually decent Issekai with the protagonist not just trying to get panty shots of everyone. The anti-racism stance is pretty good in context.

Grancrest got a bit more interesting this week. Curious to see where it goes.

Garo's last few episodes have been very dull. This week's seems to be moving back to Sword which will be good.

POPUPEPIPIKU is literally a shitpost and I love it for that.

Magus Bride has slowed down a fair bit. Maybe a mid-season lull, but...

I'm somewhat on the fence with grancrest.

Reason is grancrest doesn't have battles. They have fights. They portray their battles as fights and you loose out on all the interesting strategy bits like in Legend of Arlsan or Altair

This made me google the character design. I see the trap.

It’s all there in the weapon...skirt?

Pffft, Astolfo's not a real trap/boy. It's just a lazy "oh and she's a dude because we say so". Doesn't really count.

First two Saiki-kusuo episodes were fabulous and funny. This week's was kinda weak but not horrible.

Sounding like a broken record here, but once again Further than the Universe was hilarious and emotional and amazing this week.

Yeah I enjoyed this week's Further.

RE: Astolfo, the character is pretty interesting overall which sort of rounds of the arbitrary trapping. Protecting the weak even in defiance of a direct order because it's morally the right thing to do was cool.

So, DARLING IN THE FRANXX anyone? I checked out episode 1. Seems like the spiritual successor to Eva. Solid stuff so far. Trigger and A1 don't disappoint.

Edit: kind of overt in the sexual innuendo part mind you.

Lewdness in the BOTSS is brilliant if you don't take it seriously. It knows it's silly and has fun with it. The action sequences are really good, too.

I mean they aren't ACTUALLY having sex though....so it kind of is still innuendo. Perhaps pantomime is a better word? It's positions more than anything.

But I mean, I think I get it. It's the juxtaposition of an intimate relationship on an emotional level (loving your parasite pairing) and the physical/sexual component of that not always jiving, or jiving very well.

I'm not sure if it totally works after one episode...but I'm at least in for the 4 eps that are currently out right now to see how it goes. There have already been a few nods to Eva (the Klaxasaurs are pretty much Angels, the military installation on a blasted out earth, the skintight flight suits with head-attachments, the Mecha's themselves already SEEM sentient...and even the HUD in the cockpit is very Eva.

And I mean, Eva was all about sex too...and even included a whole Oedipus aspect in Rey/Yui...

This just seems to be more blatant?

Or it's a deconstruction / loving parody / piss-take of EVA and deliberately expands on it as ridiculously as possible.

Side note: POPUPEPIPIPU.

I mean, that's entirely possible as well.

I think the bottom line is that like any other Trigger property, we can't judge this properly at this point and need to wait to see how it unfolds.

Hey, I'm not saying the blatant sexual pantomine (good word) is necessarily bad, just that I wouldn't call it innuendo.

A lot of people are speculating after the first two episodes that what is going to happen is that MC-kun (who has erectile dysfunction can't pilot with that girl who's crushing on him) is really a "bottom" sexual pilot personality while pink-monster-girl is a top, and they'll finally find success/harmony/orgasm when MC-kun is the one piloting doggystyle, and him and everyone else will just have to get over the idea that hey girls can be tops, too.

Oh, that would be a really interesting development, and would speak to (if not a gender fluidity) then at least an equality. I like it.

Depends on how they do it, though. There's a danger of it coming off as a sort of "Oh my god, who knew girls could be assertive and in charge of things, too?! And who knew boys don't all have to be cocky uberalphasmen and can have... feelings?! Whoa, man!" sort of infantile tone to it. We'll see!
