I'm just gonna say it. Basilisk was weird. I feel it tried to hard to be a ninja scrolls alternative. Action was amazing but the story wasn't original for that time in anime. A remake won't fix the plot but the fights were epic. A lot like Fate or Akame Ga Kill and suffering from the same problems.

Grimgar I really liked. Successfully managed story, development and action scenes. I hope Season 2 does happen and I hope it doesn't turn into a race or competition, they should address mysteries instead to keep things grounded.

One thing that Isekai anime don't do enough of that I wanna see is a juxtaposition between being in the MMO and being in RL. Less Gary Stus and more turning to digital survivalism as an escape from the status quo. There's so much story potential, I feel SAO may have led to a phobia in tackling the issue.

I guess I want a Ghost in the Shell worlds approach to the Isekai setting. Is there an anime that fulfills this I don't know about?

Ever tried the .Hack Sign franchise? it might have what you are looking for.

I dunno, last Spring I think? I'm not going to look it up, SukaSuka doesn't deserve it :)

Meanwhile here's me genuinely enjoying it. So mean!

Few thoughts on the latest RWBY:
Spoiler

Magus Bride seems to be falling into a bit of a routine - something bad happens to Chise at the end of episode a, but completely resolves and turns out to be super trivial at the start of episode b.

Pop Team Epic anime is basically just a shitpost that's animated. Not necessarily a bad thing, mind...

Yeah, it was really, really predictable.

And at the same time there was like 5 different times in the last two episodes where I thought "why did everyone stop fighting and is just standing around watching?" Even the most despicable bad guys just randomly stop fighting so everyone can watch and react to the drama. You really think some of the bad guys aren't dishonourable enough to get a cheap shot in while the good guys have stopped fighting and turned around to talk? Duuuuuuumb

That was awesome and hilarious

And the french was really good!!!!!!! I wanna know who that random french guy in the studio was!

But what the heck was up with first episode being the same thing repeated twice? Did they change the voices or something?

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Yeah, they have half the episode with male VAs and half with female. Oddly I preferred with the male VAs. Felt wackier that way. And the Chrono Trigger reference had me dying when she just busts out Luminaire.

I'm at work so daren't look at the spoiler, my boss sits right behind me, danger Will Robinson etc.

This past Sunday I finally got to see The Night is Short, Walk on Girl.

IT. IS. AWESOME!

While I had some reservations about Yuasa/SARU's art-style in Devilman Crybaby that same style works soooo well here and they've cranked it up to 11. Having already seen The Tatami Galaxy, this was like getting a second helping of the best cake ever - only even tastier - but even for people who haven't seen Tatami Galaxy the visual style is immediately appealing and the abstracter parts of it aren't confusing or off-putting at all.

The movie is full of hilarious absurdity and for the most part doesn't even necessarily have much of a central plot - first it's a pub crawl, then it's about books, then guerilla theatre, then the plague. It could *almost* have been four separate episodes, but not really - the chapters flow into each other pretty much perfectly and the unrelenting fast pace is a big part of its charm. Plus it does bring everything together pretty well at the end.

Also, each of the four chapters is visually- and narratively-pseudo-themed as the seasons of the year, and I love it.

So move over Dragon Dentist, I have a new favourite of 2017.

It's funnier than KonoSuba, quirkier than Sakura Quest, more creatively fantastical than Ancient and the Magic Tablet, brings its characters together better than Re:Creators. I highly recommend it! (Though if you've not seen Tatami Galaxy, you *may* want to consider watching that first.)

Finished with akagi. Was a good show, the ending did not really deliver however. if you like gambling then this will be up your alley.

up to ep 10 of dragon maid, is it weird that i like the show?

Mostly done rewatch of jormungand. I do not remember seeing hex's boobs in the original airing... not that i'm complaining.:)

Seasonal stuff

Grancrest: Liking it so far, will it deliver or will it flop? only time will tell.

Overlord: The lizard men are more interesting then the main characters. Did this show actually learn how to tell a good story?

RWBY-i find myself agreeing with much of the above.

I've picked up The Ryou's Work is Never Done! People seem to have complained about this one due to a lewd loli scene in episode one (which is really just there to establish tension between the main girl and the second female lead). It's been pretty good so far. Lots of themes in line with tutoring a prodigy. I still have no clue how you actually play Shogi, though.

There's another Shogi anime coming right after March Comes In Like a Lion? That's ambitious!

Currently watching Gurren Lagann.

It's a good mix of funny, bizarre, and contains enough bouncing boobs and blatant crotch shots to be considered a bit on the pervy side, but then I'm fairly new to anime.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

YOUR NAME is FINALLY coming out over here. I preordered it on the Playstation store. I cannot WAIT to watch it.

Also, on topic...MARY & THE WITCHES FLOWER release over here has been weird and scattered, and I can't find any mention of it playing in theatres here and it's pissing me off. I want to see it!

Have they even announced a Canadian release date for M&tWF (aside from the Vancouver festival event) yet?

I thought it would be the same as the States, which was Jan 26th or something...At least in Toronto. But nada. And I mean even if it's later in the year we should see SOME kind of date, but it's not even listed on the Cineplex site as coming soon.

Looks like the licensor/release companies are GKids and Fathom this time. Fathom is seemingly owned/controlled by AMC Theatres, who don't care about Canada... so maybe it's not coming to Canada at all?
