But heres the thing, at the end of the day you're reccomending a story, you're not reccomending a franchise. A franchise would be like reccomending gundam (hint theres tons of gundam and a variety of stories). THe faithfulness of the adaption is irrelevant, its whether or not its a good adaption thats the key issue. Deviations in narrative make for interesting new ways of telling a story.
Id also argue what FMA lacks in world building it makes up for with a tighter narrative that doesn't take as long to build up. Im also a bigger fan of how the various character evolve in the first series.
