Berserks manga does go alot further than the anime, I'd say the anime is a crash course introduction to the real story.

Like Claymore the anime was full of great performances and musical scores but also like Claymore the ending isn't an actual Ending. I highly reccomend picking up the manga immediately after watching the anime as the story gets soooo much more interesting from there.

(This advice for both shows)

which reminds me i was recently contemplating rewatching it. Given claymore was one of the first animes i watched as i started getting really into anime im curious how it holds up

In my biased view it dates pretty well but the animation can be a bit...economical :p . The battle atmosphere and creepy presence of awakened ones always excites me and anyone else i drag in on my rewatch. As is expected of most top tier anime the character development was fantastic. The pacing was solid and everything Theressa was pure Gold.

If i had the money i'd dump it into a brotherhood-esque reboot, allowing producers to re-animate and rework in-line with the full original story. I truly believe few other anime told a better story. The ending of the series was everything you could hope for.

(And yes i'd keep Raki around. Kid does ok in the end... :p )

@Ment: Prepare for things to get out of hand. The second part of Gurren Lagaan was Epic.

I've never watched nor know much of anything about Claymore. I guess I should put it on the list?

As if the first half wasn't already epic and out of hand?!

@Ment - unlike LoGH, we've seen this one! Give us big spoiler-boxed reaction/impression posts that we can discuss and giggle about!

Starting back on Crunchyroll this last week..I have a really cool show here to check out. Re:zero..

God I love this type of show's concept and am glad another anime explored it--> Steins;gate-esque.

I've been watching a show called Sansha Sanyou (airing this season). It's setup exactly like every single other 3-or-4-girls-in-high-school-slice-of-life-cutesy-comedy show, but the characters have a little bit more depth than the usual one-gimmick-repeated-ad-nauseam characters these shows tend to have, and the animation, voice acting, writing, etc are all really good. It's cute!

So apparently rei zero is interesting but ill have to check it out later

Been enjoying kiznaiver. Ive dropped mayoiga to marathon later on.Its one of those shows the weekly wait was annoying me so i said screw it. (good sign another words)

Macross triangle delta: im actually enjoying this more than i thought i would. Main leads are quite good and have some depth to them. I also like that while romantic subplot are liekly to occur in the future its yet to happen which is refreshing from this franchise. Our two leads are actually developing as people and growing together and for the moment those two have a good character synergy but its more akin to a good friendship (which will likely develop further) which is really cool. Genuine room for improvement.

Also assasination classroom. this show is simply amazing. It starts off as just zany comedy but it slowly builds depth at a natural pace and the character we see are all fleshed out to some degree. Not every person got their episode but its nice to see a variety of character studies done well.

Also ive gotten back into haibane renmei. I imagine theres a payoff coming but its still worldbuilding kinda.

Also legend of the galactic heroes seems interesting with those frequent write ups we got.

I'm up to episode 20 of Lagann. Need to set aside 3 hours to power thru the last few episodes, but life's been hectic, and with the long weekend coming up may not happen this week.

Out of the 3 episodes I've seen since last time (18-20), Rossiu is revealed to be much more nuanced (even though I kinda called which way he'll develop from epi 17, he's taking it waay too far). The rest of the plot is pretty Ke-raaazy.

Not Anime but as good as and I'd highly encourage watching the first Avatar:TLA before Avatar:LoK.

Reasons:

A:TLA has alot of background with excellent world building, good humour and a wealth of character context.

The finale is well done, character development syncs perfectly with the story arc.

I think A:LoK was ok, it could easily succeed as a stand alone story. That said, a lot of the truly interesting things they did with the time-skip and characters you pick up on in relation to the first installment. it could lose maybe 20% of its goodness without watching A:TLA first.

Its quite good

the protagonists are NOT whiny children and the participants are actively trying to kill each other. THere s also several glorious fights with highlights including a hijacked fighter jet battling it out with one of gilgamesh's artefacts, and a magic wielding assasin who uses firearms and explosions.
Or epic scenes like king arthur, gilgamesh and alexander the great all having a drink together and discussing what it means to be a king.

Once ur done with that feel free to focus on black laggoon and the OVA roberta's blood trail as well as berserk

In other news i've been rewatching episodes of claymore. Skipped the begining but watched the middle episodes

Its a pretty good show, terrible dubs aside. Claire is a true badass, underated as far as strong female leads go in anime, in fact its shocking how little mention is given to her in top x list. Likely due to the fact its an anime from the mid 2000s (around the time when anime was starting to hit larger audiences) and the manga continues the story.

Interesting question though

Top animes of the 2000s vs animes of the 2010s (so far) If we were to take the best of the best from each how would they compare i wonder.
