Yeah, I think you're right. I'm going to leave Nichijou alone for now and will probably try it again later down the road.

How to pick up girls in dungeons

Is that the alternate version of Is it wrong to pick up girl in a dungeon? where the MC is a suave, confident ladies man who is tutoring new proteges on the best dungeon pick-up methods (instead of being a bumbling fool who trips over his own feet and falls into a harem)? :p

Anyways, it's a good list! I'm kinda concerned about Rokka no Yuusha now, though. I like it, and other than the character designs don't have any problems with it, but it's billed as being only 13 episodes long, so it feels like it is going to resolve the current arc/mystery just in time for the 'main' story to take off... and then abruptly end. And I doubt there would be a season 2 anytime soon/ever since it is being done by a small and pretty new studio.

Its not the destination that matters, its the journey. If rokka no yuusha ends and we figured out whats going on but the demon king is still around and kicking i have no complaints

also if you're looking for comedy, have you ever given gintama or sgt frog a go? Both come highly reccomended

Lol yeah I totally got the name wrong.

That would be a better show though! like the sequel where our hero becomes the Barney Stinson of anime :p

Rokka no Yuusha will probably have a second season. I think it will be a shame for them to rush into a main plot after setting everything up this interestingly.

I watched my neighbour Sekki-kun. The Shogi Episode was perfection!

Excellent reccomendation once again D'rek. I seem to get them in 7 minute shorts, is this legit?

I hope so, but I wouldn't be so surprised if there isn't a second season... or isn't one for many years. It's a small studio not known for much of anything yet, and the show airs at 3am in Japan - how much money can it really be making? Seems more like it's just being made as a way to advertise the LNs. If it does boost LN sales, I could see them waiting a few years for sales to go back down and then doing a second season to boost it again.

Yup, the episodes are only about 8-9 minutes long (including the OP and ED). There's 21 episodes and 3 OVAs.

I really liked the Shogi episode too!

What are some elements about tokyo ghoul that you enjoyed. In general i think tokyo ghoul was quite lackluster so we could easily point you in a better direction.

So fan expo was great today. Went as Decim from death parade. Was good cept the vest i was wearing was leant by a friend and hes a full size smaller than I.

Had fun at the durarara panel, they enjoyed my questions. Turns out , Steven Blum and Vic Mignogna were almost in a hentai together. Steve blum was randomly asked to do a monster. Did about 10 minutes of it before he realised it a tentacle monster with some interesting POV shots. And vic mignogna was the victim apparently.

Vic also said he had one show he really didn't like, and he asked the director to give him an alias. He didn't care what it was. Didn't say which show it was but director took some liberties with the alias and people still come up to him at cons asking "hey were you in this show"

XD

Also one of today's highlights, went to an amv panel

This amv is perfect. Haruhi is the best possible character to take

:p

In other news a wild Bakuman appeared on my brothers recco list over on myanimelist

Its an anime about two high schoolers working to create a manga and get serielized.

I was always gonna watch this show since it first aired a few years back but I really regret waiting this long. 13 episodes in and I am loving it! It's great,
Kinda had me reaching for a pen each time they got a name submited to "Jack".

I think this may very easily be my favourite watch of the year. totally biased ofcourse but I can't help it.

also my neighbour Sekki-kuns shogi 2 was epic!!!

Depressingly so. I think subconsciously we all picked up on it. Considering where SAO started theres plenty of material that wasn't addressed aswell as it could have. I still enjoy the spectacle of SAO but digging deep into the characterizations and plot developments reveal a fair share of disappointments.

At some point in every anime fan's life they hit that realization of just how few anime are passionate love-projects by their creators versus how many are just being made to pay the studio's bills. As someone who doesn't read manga, has read less than 5 light/virtual novels, doesn't own any figurines or plush toys, etc, yeah it can be depressing in some ways that there are so many one-season by-the-numbers adaptations that have no hope of being a good show on their own merits. But on the other hand, if those shows are keeping the anime industry afloat so that it can make more Gurren Laganns, Code Geasses, Redlines, Magica Madokas, Space Dandys, etc. As long as the industry stays afloat there will always be animators and directors who are driven to go beyond the generic, commercial projects and let their passions run wild, the same as any other artistic industry.

This is part of why I decided to start a Crunchyroll subscription this year, though. It's a drop in the bucket, but at least that drop is coming to the studios solely from the anime side of things. Maybe eventually the economics will shift and anime won't be so reliant on supporting itself through other source mediums. I don't even like Crunchyroll that much, and still end up watching a bunch of shows on other totally legal sites because of better video playback or subtitles, but this way I feel like I'm giving the right kind of support.

Another interesting point to consider is that which merchandise/source material sells ends up dictating a lot of the trends in anime. In the 80s, robot toys sold well, so there were lots of shows about robots that could raise sales for their particular robot toy. Nowadays, it seems like 'adult'(er) figurines and geeky LN/VNs are hot, hence the bajillion moe-girl, harem, and nerd-trapped-in-a-fantasy-world shows being made.

Which is pretty much par for the course for LN adaptations. There is a huuuuge amount of LNs where the main character is a badass self-insert fantasy with minimal character development. For those of us who aren't much into the LN season, SAO was the first adaptation to really stand out (and for good reason, the show does have great execution) and this LN trend hadn't really been noticed yet so SAO got the same treatment as everything else and didn't measure up.

Since SAO, there's been Accel World, Irregular at Magic School, Overlord, GATE, Mikagura School Suite, A Certain Magical Index, Strike the Blood, Aria the Scarlet Ammo, Log Horizon, Denpa Kyoushi, Seraph of the End... now there's a whole mental category of Pandering LN Adaptation, which SAO was merely the forerunner of. And compared to the others in this category, SAO still holds up pretty well, IMO.

It should also be noted that with adapting material theres less work involved. Re purposing a book into a 12/24 ep anime takes less effort than coming up with and writing a new anime. Character designs are partially done as well so they just need to be redone.

At least that's what i'd think
