So i've caught up to rokka no yuusha
Gangsta and overlord i've been keeping pace with. I'm enjoying gangsta, it's not quite the action fest I thought it would be but the characters do interest me.
I enjoy overlord, i just don't know if i could honestly say it's a good show. I mean the guy has no real challenges to overcome
What else was there to watch? durarara, chaos dragon, charlotte and wasn't there some sort of comedy anime involving all lewd material being banned.

Yeah, it is definitely not something I would call 'good'. Momango is completely overpowered compared to everything he comes across, and even then the plot events he is going through, the people he faces, etc, are just completely random. There's no reason to care about him making a career as an adventurer nor do we know anything about the latest two adversaries that he will surely destroy in record time.
That's not all that bad in and of itself, but given how the show set itself up over the first few episodes, it's gone completely off the rails and massively failed its own potential. There's zero point to him being a skeleton monster, to him having a lair full of minions, or even to him having been in the previous game and such if he's just going to go be an adventurer swordsman taking escort quests. Even his whole 'my emotions are now suppressed' thing hasn't been relevant - he's still kept helping people, being a good guy, etc.
Compared to what the plot would have been if his lack of emotions and demonic avatar/lair made him completely callous and he immediately began raising hordes to conquer the new world, and had to deal with the whole world fighting against him... that would have actually been interesting.
Maybe the show would/will eventually get to that point, but {a} given how he still acts like a 'good guy' I doubt they'd ever have him be the fully evil conqueror that would make it more interesting, and {b} at the side-quest-focused pace they're doing now it would probably take about 6 cours to reach that point (supposedly the manga/LN is rather long already) and I doubt the show will ever get contracted to make that many seasons to reach that point.
So nope, not a good show and probably never will be. I expect the 1 season will have almost no plot resolution, will boost the manga/LN sales and be forgotten.
On the flip side, there could have been a really good comedy show about overpowered-Momango in the new world trying to find an entertaining fight or quest, but everything ends up being too familiar, silly and easy for him, if it was deliberately written that way.

Durarara has been great as always.
Chaos Dragon is awful.
God Eater is not quite as awful.
Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai is amazing and so so dirty.
Akagami no Shirayuki-hime is beautiful, and fun, but the lack of anything actually holding back the romantic leads from just GETTING THE FUCK TOGETHER KISS YOU FOOLS KISS ALREADY is soooo annoying.
Ushio to Tora I just can't get into, maybe 'cause of the intentional ultra-90s feel.
Joukamachi no Dandelion is adorable, but the humour is low-brow a bit too much.
Charlotte seems to have a big following, but everyone here is carefully avoiding it to binge-watch later.
Gakkougurashi! is the show I'm *really* completely avoiding and going to binge-watch later.
Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri had ASSAULT HELICOPTERS VERSUS DRAGONRIDERS though the latest few episodes have been pretty meh.
Ranpo Kitan is apparently actually pretty smart and alright.
Aoharu x Kikanjuu is dumb. And stupid. And dumb.
Himouto! Umaru-chan has a cute concept. And has no ability to make a whole cour out of that concept whatsoever.
Dragon Ball Super will make you realize how refined your taste in anime has become since you were a kid.
Monster Musume is... um... well... no, I can't do it, go find the synopsis and decide for yourself.
Danchigai (short) is cute and also shameless and seems to really regret making the characters all siblings.
Classroom☆Crisis is a show I like that I will never be able to convince anyone else to watch. Because high school and bureaucracy in space is still high school and bureaucracy? BUT IT'S IN SPACE!
Chu Feng: BEE is Chinese.
Kuusen Madoushi is the show that I just now realized I wrote down on this piece of paper 3 months ago and completely forgot it even existed so I never checked it out. Oops.
Also
Arslan Senki continues to impress and hopes you haven't noticed yet how much plot must be left yet how few episodes are left.
Shokugeki no Souma should open a school to teach other shows how to hype. How can I be this excited for other people eating curry?!

Well, I'm not actually watching all of them and others I'm very behind on. But also it's summer and I'm not working very much so I have lots of spare time. Come the fall when the semester starts I will not likely be able to maintain this pace.

Gakkou Gurashi I am absolutely avoiding learning anything about as from the whispers it sounds like something I absolutely do not want to get even the hint of a spoiler on. So I can't tell you anything about it, yet, but I'm sure I'll post about it when I binge-watch it.
Ranpo Kitan is supposed to be a kind of murder-mystery-of-the-week show. I've not really been watching it aside from the first episode and a bit of the second, but I intend to check out more. From what I've seen and heard, the mystery-solving itself is not really focused on - they'll often go almost straight from the mystery to the solution. So it's not trying to be a psychological show, but rather it's trying to be a character-study of the week sort of thing - the cases are very twisted and weird, and the show really lays on the heavy atmosphere. Also, one of the main characters is one of those "I look and act 100% like one gender, but apparently I am the other, for no plot-related reason whatsoever" things.

Oh yeah, it's definitely tropey, but still worth watching just to be entertained by the premise. Sort of like how watching SAO, despite the bland characterization and bad structure, was still worth it for the awesome boss fights. Not an anime you want to try and overthink, but it's still entertaining, and you might never get a chance to see roman-esque legions and dragonriders fight modern artillery again.

That is what it seems. I haven't watched any of it and don't intend on changing that anytime soon. But based on other comments if you are into monster harems it is apparently pretty good. The monsters on the cover definitely seem like they are taking a bold step away from the cliche cat-girl/vampire/alien-who-is-a-human-with-antenna/demon-who-is-exactly-like-a-human monster set.

I've heard many good things about Planetes and will definitely get around to it eventually!
But Classroom☆Crisis is not actually boring, IMO. Somehow despite all those shows it is the only slice-of-life I'm watching this season and it's the gooood kind of slice-of-life where things actually happen and there are interesting plot developments (rather than the meeeeeh kind of slice-of-life where girls just sit around eating cake all day). Heck, there's a hostage-taking crisis (in space!) in the very first episode (which is not resolved the way you think it might be) and then half the team gets fired (in space!) in the second episode!

see my enjoyment of arslan senki is all about the ways in which narsus gets out of predicaments using strategy. If i wasn't watching this show weekly i might get more attached to the characters. Etoile being a girl, it does seem like thats what may end up happening, but like, shes soo awkward. Then again so is he so maybe they are meant for each other.
Also i'll diseregard that statement about SAO being only good for the boss fights. S1 yes, s2 was good on multiple levels
its also possible the person is cross dressing for reasons to be dvped later
Takeya Yuki is in love with the school. For her, it's a wonderful place, where she enjoys her school activities, especially the activities of her club: School Life Club. The club has Rii-chan as the president, Kurumi-chan as another member, and the teacher, Megu-nee, always there for them. Yes, she is in love with her school... in her mind. Because, for her, the reality of the school and their club's activities is way too hard to be perceived...
this may be one of those animes whom you can't judge by looking at it's poster
Also d rek you really ought to check out the overlord shorts

But Etoile and Arslan are so awesomely/adorably awkward together! That's what makes them special! And I think given her dual identities it makes sense for her to be pretty awkward in situations like that - she's not used to playing that role at all. I wouldn't be surprised if it is heading that way either - they each have deeds and personalities that the other would respect and admire, so a romance between them seems like it could develop pretty naturally down the road.
And I fully agree about seeing

Yeah yeah, you get my point though. There was lots of great non-boss-fight bits in S1, too, but the overall show was certainly quite tropey, did not have a very 'smart' plot that encouraged big thinking, and it was definitely pandering to the default fanbase in places.
GATE is the same way - there are lots of great bits but the overall show is very tropey and you'll get upset if you expect the characters to get into complex political negotiations or even think about developing clever strategies. And it is definitely pandering to the default fanbases... but like SAO is surprisingly not ecchi at all.

In other news, Castle-town Dandelion (Joukamachi no Dandelion)'s latest episode had me falling out of my chair laughing in the first half (and then smiling contentedly in the more serious but heartwarming second half). Very glad I kept watching this show despite the overused underwear jokes in the first few episodes.

Just got all caught on this one after messing around with the cooler features for FireTV. Did I mentioned I canceled my DirectTV?
Anyhow good little show even if it clearly feels like it's ripping off another show. Will have to see where they go with the last four

Yup, precisely why I think it's a really good show. He genuinely feels like a 14 year-old prince who has been forced into maturing and becoming a leader, and the growth from it is very gradual and natural. And at the same time, he still can't do a lot of the planning and logistics himself and depends on others, because he's only 14! None of that high-school-kid-pulls-military-management-skills-out-of-his-ass crap!
---
Watched the latest two GATE episodes. Whoa, this suddenly got really dumb. I'm still having a fun time, just laughing at the show more now.
---
Dolmen, I apologize, but I really can't get into Nichijou. I get that it's random sketch comedy and all, but a lot of these jokes are only getting a soft chuckle out of me, and then they drag on for waaaay too long. There's been a few really good ones (the goat guy and the toe rockets) but at least three quarters of each episode feel pretty boring.
But I did find a new silly-school-humour show that I immediately fell in love with. It's called My Neighbour Seki-kun. It's a pretty simple premise - the protagonist is a girl named Yokoi and she is constantly getting distracted in class by Seki, a boy who sits next to her and who is always playing some game on his desk instead of paying attention to the class. Yokoi tries (and fails) not to be distracted by Seki, and more often than not she gets as much or more emotionally invested in Seki's game than he is.
The premise is pretty simple, but the creativity of Seki's antics and the stories Yokoi imagines up are fantastic. The atmosphere is really consistent, the timing of everything is spot-on and the jokes themselves are surprisingly smart - I actually think despite the G-rating this show would not be great for kids because a lot of the jokes have a more adult sensibility to them. The whole thing is supported by a great soundtrack that is surprisingly varied considering it's a 1-season show with 8-minute episodes.
I decided to watch one or two episodes yesterday before going off to do something else... and watched 15 episodes instead. So I highly recommend checking this one out!

Admitedly Nichijou humor can be a bit of a mishit depending on your inclination. I do not hold you to it. I think the jokes get better the longer you sit with the show, largely because the jokes at the beginning of the series setup jokes that come along later on in the show.
More than anything I believe telling someone to "stick with it, it gets better" kinda undermines the shows ability to catch an audience. If you aren't into it better you try it again in a year or two, maybe it will get you when you got different stuff going on...
...which ties me in nicely to my second attampt at watching Steins gate. I hated the shows start. it wasn't catching me at all. I gave it a second try earlier this week and I'm into it now. everything that I just wasn't interested in I'm picking up on and enjoying. its a great series and I'm at the point where things really start to escalate.
I guess at the time of my first watch I wasn't into time travel. I've watched a lil Dr Who and I'm on the season finalle of The Flash (I know, I'm so slowwww).
Fact is I'm really kinda awakening to the genre. It's interesting me and I think Thats why I'm REALLY enjoying Steins Gate second time around.
I tried a few other shows. I will be watching a few of them this month.
Rokka No Yuusha
How to pick up girls in dungeons
Durarara X2 Ten
Gangsta.
I'm looking for a fourth and I think I'd like a comedy to fill that role so yeah, thanks D'rek!
Gonna look up My Neighbour Seki-Kun. Nichijou kinda filled a role on my anime list, would be great to get another "Slice of Life" comedy to fill the gap.
unsure if I should start second season of Psychopass now or continue with one of the more recent anime.
