So the comments I read were not "cult following" comments.
Spoiler

This anime is pure gold.

In all seriousness - it is a *fantastic* anime, and the lack of a third season/new movie is slowly eating away at my soul. If I wasn't up to date (mostly) on the novels, I would be a sad panda indeed.

Done with the Naomi armitage movie. Was a good story, interesting concepts that follow along with the ideas in the OVA series. Naomi armitage definetly reflects the badass mother archetype we see a lot in older anime but is done quite nicely.

Yep, and the Girl who Leapt Through Time, and Wolf Children. All of which are gold.

Anyone here watched Reborn! ? is it any good?
Anyway, Haruhi is still awesome.

I tried my best to watch them in the order they unfolded. Time wise. I have no idea whether I succeeded or not. It's way too much work to actually look up these stuff.

Ah. See you should have watched the show in airing order the first time, and saved that bit for your second viewing in chronological order (I have a file with the episodes in both orders) as it's technically part of 'season two'. It's truly a sublime piece of work, I mmo, with tons of little bits to look out for. But I know that a lot of people don't like it - though seeing it the first time around probably doesn't help. XD

I've back read this forum a month back and i have various comments. firstly thanks for all the posts you've given me a whole host of anime to binge on after exams. ( i plan to lock myself away for 2 weeks and watch my entire list somehow) thanks to drek got a lot from his/her? posts. and I've seen nanatsu no taizai and kuroko no basuke since i last came on here. nanatsu no taizai i kinda liked it was a simple anime not overly complex MC randomly meets someone and they go on their merry adventure. I'm a sucker for good anime music and it has some gooooood music. but overall its a basic combat anime with decent animation, just something cool to watch i guess.

kuroko i heard good things about but never watched a sporty anime. ( i was forced to watch a couple episodes of free by some friends but i don't count the NEVER WATCH FREE IT SUCKS) anyway i liked kuroko no basket it was decent. explored individual characters well and bought in all that team spirit stuff which i liked.... but sometimes it dragged on like some basketball matches went on for like 6-7 episodes.

and I've seen a lot of seraph of the end posts, i saw episode one and i liked the look of it but well my favourite anime is like fairy tail, ill have to watch it when I'm in the mood but it looks promising.

Honestly, Owari no Seraph has been pretty boring so far. It really feels like they could have shrunken episodes 2 to 5 into one episode, given how little has happened (plot-wise and character growth-wise). Plus they're doing that stupid thing where either the main characters know more than the audience (ie knowing what a 'Seraph of the End' is and why it is dangerous) or the main characters have zero curiosity to ask what is actually going on.

It's not the only one. All my post-first-episode expectations have been pretty off this cour:

I thought Kyoukai no Rinne would be funny and cute, but it is really boring and repetitive. The MC has almost zero personality and doesn't actually do anything except stand around watching Rinne/Tsubasa do things, while the plot and jokes are exceedingly repetitive.

F/SN:Unlimited Blade Works has actually been pretty entertaining now that they have stopped wasting time on the plot and have mostly gotten past the mandatory awkward-teenage-romance-this-was-clearly-a-dating-game bits.

Gunslinger Stratos went completely into sooooo-stupid mode on the second episode, when I thought it would keep the psychological-mystery aspect going all season.

Hibike Euphonium, which I thought would just be a so-so music show turned out to be a gorgeous slice of life show, with some great subtly-building characterization and some of the best, most varied character animations and expressions I've seen.

After the first couple episodes I thought Kekkai Sensen was going to be too campy and just follow cliche shounen tropes (even if the setting was awesome), but it's been really entertaining so far... even if I have no idea what's going on or how the eyes are supposed to work. I kinda like how they're building up the secondary cast one character at a time instead of just throwing the team together. The "Lucky Abrams" character was especially hilarious.

Plastic Memories, which I thought was going to be great, devolved into awful slapstick and has almost completely ignored exploring the androids-living-with-humans theme. The latest episode tried to get back to that, but was ultimately just 18 minutes of them running around in order to justify 4 minutes of exposition and 2 minutes of dramatic cliffhanger which will probably just push the bad romance plot, rather than explore the world's ideas (or make the bad romance plot good). Plus they keep adding new details to the world that make everything extremely non-sensical. It really seems like the blade-runner-esque theme was just tacked onto a bad romance plot in order to try and make it unique, not because the writer actually cared about that idea/theme nor even thought it through.

And lastly Shokugemi no Souma has been way, way more fun than any ecchi cooking show has any right to be.

You were always going to be wrong about Hibike. KyoAni slice of life music-themes? Hello, new K-On! XD

The only reason I haven't watched it yet is that I'm running on fumes due to work and the backlog needs attending to first. Heck, I haven't watched any anime in a month.

OMG Assassination Classroom episode 18! WHAT THE HELL :headbang: AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

The first twist was totally expected. All the more reason the second twist was so unexpected and compelling. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Good thing I watched that^^ after Owari no Seraph and Unlimited Blade Works this weekend! Following that amazingness with two whole episodes of people "fighting" by talking each other to death would have been a huge mood killer :)

I've never actually gone to one of those cons around here. How is it? Other than a bajillion photo ops with the visiting celebrities, mascots and cosplayers, what actually happens at it?

may be a bit odd, but i am liking sokugeki no soma (food wars) right now, i didn't expect it to be this good cause its based on cooking but damn , the music and its got a good balance of serious and comedy, although at times it can be a little ecchi and i can't finish assassin classroom until end of exams but judging from peoples responses i can't wait to finish it

Theres the dealers room where you can purchase a plethora of merchanidse, from cosplay supplies to anime managa to pillow and other accesories. I got myself a flask with the skull symbol from guren lagann for example. Theres the artists alley where you can purchase or comission art from other artists. There are a plethora of panels (some you sign up in advance others you just show up) on a variety of topics from cosplaying 101 to certain topics in anime etc... There's a wide variety. They have events going on at the con, noteworth were anime idol and cossplay (wizards chess from Harry potter ft. Cossplayers) etc. (i didnt get to see either), other game shows like name that tune etc.

They also have rooms where they show various anime even some gaming related rooms (i dont bother with these, i might if i do a whole weekend). Best part is the cosplayers and just the fact its a great place to meet people. Helps if you know people that go (im starting to get to know a lot of people as ive friends who are frequent con goers).

If you haven't then you should try! Come on lets have a toronto malazan meetup at fan expo!

It really is quite good. Everything is absolutely over the top, but that works so well in an elite culinary school setting, especially with all those Gordon Ramsey and similar shows that have aired in the past decade or so which have already made the idea of crazy food battles in arenas full of screaming fans and shadow-cloaked judges who barely speak seem like a completely normal way to train new chefs! And personally, I don't even mind the ecchi in this one because the whole thing is so ludicrously over the top that it blends in with the rest of the show anyways. Plus they're being surprisingly gender-equal on the ecchi which is awesome.

I really like how they fleshed out a bunch of characters that are as good or better than the MC (so far) even if they won't actually use them for a long time. The show would have been a lot worse if it was entirely focused on Yukihira and Erina.

Likewise, I really like how they've done Megumi - having her actually be a skilled chef who deserves to be there, but just be too nervous in high-stress situations to show it most of the time. It gives her a real reason to be there but still lets her serve as Yukihira's foil and/or sounding board so that his idea-crafting scenes come off naturally.

Of course, the naked chef guy is still "best girl" :)

From reading the comments on Reddit, sounds like the manga this is adapting is already very long, and this show could easily be done like Naruto or One Piece with episodes coming every week for a year or more. I'm not sure how they're going to structure it then or if there will really be a solid ending to the season if it is being structured as seasons.

Also from Reddit, it seems Erina has a superfan/stalker who is introduced much later, but the anime has been discretely sticking them in the background (usually with binoculars) of almost every scene Erina is in.

I can't imagine actually doing a whole weekend of that. I guess I've never actually been to any sort of convention, but it does seem like the anime/fan/pop: expo/cons are sort of just things you go to for the experience of being at those things. It'd be cool to see all that stuff, but I'm not the sort to really buy much merchandise and especially not commission any artists. Panels would be cool, but on the other hand you can just watch those on youtube after if your main goal is to actually hear what they have to say rather than do photo hugs :)

I'm sure when I'm rich(er) and famous(er) I'll try it at least once, but probably not worth the drive and costs for me.

Or maybe I just need some friends to get waaaaay into cosplaying and force me into it, Durarara-style :)

Thats only like the celebrity panels that make it to youtube. Part of panels is participating in the discussing. As for rich, they aren't that expensive. And friend to get into cosplaying... i got a decent amount of friends who cosplay, why not join us? Im doing quindecim from death parade (only need the wig and contacts) for otakuthon in montreal.

The thing about cons, its a great experience, dont wanna do the whole weekend? just do saturday then. And like i mentioned before great way to meet people (espcially girls in revealing clothing :p) those there usually eye candy for the girls as well (kamina cosplays for example)

yeah drek i hope they make it into a week thing i kinda like it better, whilst having a short series over all means the quality is better its harder for me to become kinda attached to the anime, but i think the way they pace it , i think its gonna be done in short 25 episode seasons, maybe like kuroko.
