i see you guys have been busy talking in my absence. @above, yeah i watched angel beats. I liked the show well enough, when the show gets serious it grips you in, and when it doesn't it does a good job of making you laugh/keepp you entertained. Plus it has TK, who is one of my all time favourite characters. There was a pretty epic tribute video to him a while back but it's been deleted :p

About blast of tempest, i do agree with ya tidal. My enjoyment has definetly declined in the last few episodes. I still enjoy the episodes, but it has taken a downturn. Im interested in seeing where they go with this, maybe it will bounce back.

Glad you've finally started watching psycho-pass silencer. It will grow on you.

As for SSY, i've finally caught up to ep 20. It's simply amazing. Now i do regret being caught up as it's in the climax section, but i finally got around to start watching community and i have a new pass time. + It's reading week atm. So i'll live.

Oh, I'm quite a ways in on Psycho-Pass; nearly caught up to the current episode. I just wanted to comment on two parts of it which are not major positives, but worthy of special note because they're cool/rare. B)

So shin sekai yori is now in the finale stage and i'm loving every single moment of it. What are everyone's favourite episodes so far? For me it would have the exposition episode by the head of the ethics committee as it really brought out the question of utilitrianism to the fore.

Psycho-pass is also gearing up for the finale, and we get some more great dialogue. Im excited for how it will end. I think my one dissapointment was how they handled the reveal or what is the sybyl system. Maybe malazan has just conditioned me to accept gradual revelation then just an information dump. Oh well no series is perfect.

And blast of tempest, the identity of the true mage of exodus is finally revealed

I'm on a Studio Ghibli binge atm - done Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and am partway through Princess Mononoke, then I'm probably going onto Totoro followed by Arriety. Then I'll see where I go from there. Almost forgot how much I liked the Ghibli films. Especially Miyazaki's ones. :D

Favourite episodes of SSY? Hmmmm...I'm quite partial to the opening three, actually. Because we had no idea about ANYTHING, they were pretty special. I also enjoyed the one dealing with
Spoiler
because that was just ludicrously obviously foreshadowed but still came across as really devastating/unexpected for the characters (which it would have been, really), and it gave us a lot of set up for the later half of the season, leading into that exposition epi you mentioned, BL.

Gah, it's too hard to choose! I love every episode for their own reasons. But those are the ones that are really standout. :D

I think Psycho-Pass has been going well. It's got pretty good pacing, all things considered - I would have liked them to spend just a *bit* more time on the "everyday" criminals, but they had to get into the main plot, so I'm not too put out. :D It will be really interesting to see what goes down from here on out, 'specially what happens with Akane and her Crime Coefficient. :D

well we only got two more eps of psycho-pass so it should be good. Glad its not doing the artificial limit of 24/26episodes. It's being more organic.

Well, I don't think I'll ever get used to the twists and turns in Shin Sekai.

Got a psychic problem? No worries, we'll just use
Spoiler
to sort it out! O.o These last four episodes are going to be nuts. :)

Also, Studio Ghibli binge is mostly complete. Arriety was great (mind you, I used to love the Borrowers movie when I was a kid, so potential nostalgia filter effect), too!

And watched "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" last night; it was pretty good too, and something of a tearjerker at the end. :(

ETA: Also agree about it being nice when shows don't shoehorn themselves into the "proper" number of episodes. If it fits in 22, it fits in 22. If it takes 30, it takes 30.

Hehehe. Just started a "My Anime List" account. Damn but it's hard to give ratings to some of these, especially seeing as some of them are "masterpieces" in the artistic sense while others are "masterpieces" in the entertainment sense, etc, etc. And when you consider some that I haven't watched as recently, or which I've watched so damn much that it's hard to give an honest rating (thank God for the rewatch rating, lol) that isn't a bit blurred by time...

Still, this is surprisingly fun. :(

yeah i started my MAL account 2.5 years ago so it didn't take as long, granted im sure im missing entries in regards to shows i watched as a child. As for grading, i weight it mostly on my own personal enjoyment but i do allow some room for more objective observations. There are some show on my list i genuinely enjoyed yet ranked average. I also very much ahdere to giving proper ranking, not inflated rating like in the video game industry where a terrible game is a 5. That being said i don't watch terrible series so naturally my mean is skewed upwards. I still think it's more reasonable then some of the other's i've seen.

Also i've only seen 2 studio ghibli films, one of which was last year in theatres (arietty). I also recall recently seeing signs at the theatere advertising the madoka movie.

Also, episode 21 of blast of tempest. To anyone who's been complaining that this series has been dragging, this episode totally makes the drag worth it. I'm still in shock after watching it. I'm not spoiling anything, but SHIT JUST WENT DOWN! I'd elaborate further but i feel i'd loose what little coherence i have.

It's awesome, that's all you need to know.

Yeah, my ratings are skewed upwards - I mean, I don't rank Fate/Stay Night as "good", but I think I gave it a 5. Mainly because it's not outright *bad*, it's just one of my least favourite and overall poorest animes that I've watched. As I said, though, it's hard to be fair and logical - the rating of 10/10, "Masterpiece", is pretty specific and should really be hugely rare, but of course, I consider a show that I can get practically infinite rewatch value out of, just because I love it so much, to be a "Masterpiece", regardless of whether it is artistically good or not, and regardless of whether the general population would look at it and think its nothing but "stupid anime crap". So I've got several 10's, and a lot of 9's.

You NEED to watch more Ghibli. They're awesome. Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbour Totoro, they're all worth a watch - literally "must watch" anime movies. :p

I think I'll get back into Blast once it's done airing. I wasn't hugely taken with the first three or so episodes, and hearing that it had gone downhill made me think I might not bother with the rest, but depending on how it seems like it turns out I might give it a shot once I've run out of things to watch.

Oh, also, speaking of the Fate series, just rewatching Fate/Zero right now. Gilgamesh is the biggest, most arrogant, but awesomest jerkass on the face of the planet! XD

What's that, Rider?
Spoiler

I love Gilgamesh. :p

Meanwhile, I've also been watching: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Goodbye, Mr. Despair!) - which has the creepiest, weirdest, most off-putting OP, EVER. And it is really abstract and fucked up (by the same folks as did the Monogatari stuff - Studio Shaft. And I swear that studio should all be committed to a psychiatric clinic. O.o), like, almost beyond belief this time. But it's still awesome. In a brain-melting way.
And also, Senkou no Night Raid (Night Raid, 1931, Eng. title) - which is notable for the fact that they actually bothered to have their characters speak Mandarin to most Chinese characters (it's set in China, Shanghai, mostly) despite being Japanese. Unless they're talking only to other Japanese/Japanese speaking Chinese. And it's to the point where the Japanese characters speak "worse" Mandarin than the Chinese ones. And if there is a cross-cultural meeting, all the nationalities present switch over to (terrible, but surprisingly correct) English, or have a translator for that purpose. Now, I don't know about you, but THAT is attention to detail/awesome extra effort! And the show in general is pretty interesting too! :D

Yup, it's excellent.

You know what else is excellent? The latest episode of Shin Sekai Yori, that's what! (C'mon, you knew it was coming.) Shit's about to get REAL.

I was under the impression SSY was a 25/26-episoder? And we're only up to epi 24 by my count...*googles*

Also, yeah, looking forward to seeing how Pscyho-Pass rounds itself out. They're going to be tight I think, with only one episode to really resolve the plot - not that they have to tie all the loose ends, but it doesn't really feel like the "right" series to have a sequel hook either, you know?

You don't have to tie everything up in order to end a series. Sometime leaving the ending ambiguous is the entire purpose.

I agree, and I don't mind that when it's done well, and done for the right reasons. I just wonder how the last episode is going to play out in such a way that it IS done right, without feeling rushed/messy/too incomplete/too neat/whatever. Hehe. But we'll see in a couple of days, and I'm sure it will be good. :p

Just finished watching Last Exile with my girlfriend. Both of us really liked it, though the last episode was very strange.

Oddly enough, I'd just finished watching Eureka Seven by myself, and I found the two to be kinda amusingly similar.
Laseen did nothing wrong.

I demand Telorast & Curdle plushies.

Whelp, just finished Psycho-Pass. It was a decent ending, and I liked

Spoiler

So all-in-all pretty good.

Also watched the latest Shin Sekai. If there's one thing I'm disappointed about, it's that

Spoiler

So yeah, I believe there is either one episode left to air (according to MAL), or two (as per what Wikipedia used to say, though that has since been removed and it's only showing up to the latest episode). Could also be one episode to go + a special, so either way. Still absolutely digging this series...and just the world it's set in, in general, is captivating. I think in some ways that was why the formative episodes were sooooo good - the plot was, while very convoluted and engaging, almost secondary to finding out new things about this really, really fucked up future-society. Awesome show is awesome. :p

Haha, not touching that one with a ten foot pole, not until next week. :p

I just watched "Sword of the Stranger" - excellent movie! :D Highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of, say Princess Mononoke, or who is partial to that sort of setting (Feudal Japan-ish, somewhere 1400-1600AD, Sengoku period, in this instance), or the whole badass wandering ronin theme. XD Oh, and it excels in those areas, making them work, not as a cliche/poor anime rendition. :p

Sword of the stranger has gorgeous animation and amazing fights choreography. Aside from that though i didn't find it all that amazing.

The story was reasonably tight and, as I said, it played a standard format very well. The animation quality then makes the gap widen considerably with every other anime that has that theme, and boom, you get a top-in-class performer, imo. :D I wouldn't put it in my top ten or anything, but it's really well done and works for what it is; thus, excellent. XD
