Honestly the vending machine isekai is just fun, it's stupid as fuck and has fun with it. For that alone it won my love.

Weird, it worked when I posted from my home laptop but my work laptop doesn't like it either.

Anyway it's trash isekai, but the best sort.

Season is ending so let's have a look at those few things I've picked up already.

Loving Yamada at L999 - feels like Net-Juu no Susume but the female MC is a normie. Ep1 had some promise.
Heavenly Delusion - interesting. Very us-and-them dichotomy between the POVs but I assume it's gonna be one of those 'and the rich retreated into their bunkers whilst the rest of us suffered' stories.
Kuma Bear season 2 - more Kuma Bear, never a bad thing.
Isekai to Smartphone 2 - garbage isekai. I watch

Looking at MAL this is probably gonna be a 20-25 show season for me.

a few more from my list:

The Megumin Anime: more Konosuba, if you like that you'll like this
KamiKatsu: Interesting premise, looks like it'll probably be a bit wacky.
Magus Bride S2: see first entry
Yuri Is My Job: Sadly not about betraying Russia and going rogue with mind control, but rather about a themed maid cafe. Seems aight.
Dr Stone S3: see first entry
Legendary Hero is Dead: Interesting take on the bog standard fantasy hero trope. Likely to be bad but we'll see.
Too Cute Crisis: Literally anime of the millennium, fuck you if you don't agree
OHK Sister: Isekai garbage, my favourite.
Tonikawa S2: see first entry
Cafe Terrace: Sort of like Quintuplets but it's an idol cafe. Has some promise.
Otaku Elf: Comfy slice of life, sort of Bocchi vibes but no guitar.

You're not watching Hell's Paradise AKA Jigokuraku?

I mean this may be one of my favorite anime premises ever:

Quote

Gabimaru the Hollow, a ninja of Iwagakure Village known for being cold and emotionless, was set up by his fellow ninja and is now on death row. Tired of killing and betrayal, he wants to die. However, no method of execution works on him because as much as the seemingly apathetic Gabimaru refuses to admit it, he does have a reason to live. He wants to return to his wife, who was the reason why he softened up and failed to be an effective assassin. Thus, he refuses to die. Asaemon the Decapitator, a famous executioner, sees this and has a proposal for the ninja. She wants Gabimaru to join an expedition to an island south of Japan in search of the elixir of life in exchange for a full pardon by the Shogunate. However, this island isn't a normal island: it's believed to be Paradise. However the island is full of mysteries, and the exploring team—consisting of those marked for death—might not be fully prepared to handle them.

[Written by MAL Rewrite]

The animation is top-notch and the characterisation is damn near perfect.

TBH Hell's Paradise got marketed as 'for fans of Chains Boy' and that was mid to the point that I was put off of it on that basis alone, add to that the uninspiring key art (which is normally what suckers me in) and I swerved it. The story synopsis makes it sound like Drifters meets Lost, and I don't like either of those.

I am also at full saturation already so no space for any extra shows really.

I'll be honest Drifters was a hard pass for me aswell. This might be a little less that and a bit more like the old school ninja scrolls movies from the late 90's. As close as one could get without adopting some very dated ideals on "heroism".

I'm watching it with the wife and we love the narration, its suprisingly subtle how they've choosen to characterize Gabimaru. His executioners a bit one note at the moment but i'm picking up an "unusual" but interesting dynamic between the two very human professional killers.

I've opted to get the wife in on Demon Slayer. We watched the first 3 episodes today and she seems to love it. Castlevania has proven an excellent gateway into anime.

Looks like Oshi no Ko is the new super duper duper hyped up by the manga readers show. And the first episode is over an hour long, yeesh! I checked it out, it's pretty interesting, though a very "anime" anime. Like, it seems it'll mostly be about the seedy side of the idol industry, sort of a Perfect Blue without the horror, but it ALSO has to have the protagonist be an adult otaku who dies and reincarnates for seemingly no apparent reason other than I guess they think they need that to appeal to certain modern manga/anime fans? Kinda weird. But it seems well made and the plot has some interesting turns so far.

Oshi no Ko has been good so far.

The MC's reincarnation and subsequent mass disillusionment with the idol/entertainment industry is pretty plot-critical, especially as we get into further episodes where he's a young adult.

The Yuri's Weekend (if you know, you know) scene near the end of EP1 was kinda horrible.

Any reccomendations from the last year or so?

Been watching s2 of vinland saga and the new witch from mercury season. (I do semi-weekly stream nights with friends) Prior to that, I know last year I enjoyed legend of the galactic heroes but I can't honestly remember what I watched aside from the shows we watched in my stream night.

|Since it's mecha focused it was mostly mecha but this is what we spent most of the last 2 years watching in my discord.

Gundam Seed
Gundam War in the Pocket
Gundam Wing
Turn A GUndam
Eureka Seven
Soukyuu no fafner
Tried getting into read of die season 1 to no avail
Gurenn Lagann
FLCL (not sure if season 2 is worth a try... definitely enjoyed season 1 as an adult though)
Recently finished Another, (supernatural horror show from 2012)
And now we're going to be doing Beck Mongolian Chop Squad

Since no one has posted it yet, here's the Live Action OP trailer.

I'll be honest, I don't think this looks bad at all. The intentional tongue in cheek of this anime may make the live action one succeed. Everyone looks great!

Given your mecha focus, if you are able to find LEGEND OF ESCAFLOWNE it's worth a look. It's fantasy mecha, done clever. Some of the other story elements - notably the main character mandatory teenage girl portal'd in from the normal world - are trope-heavy, but overall it's a fun watch.

I never did finish vision of escaflowne. Might be good one. TY.
Next mecha show is vandread as it being... it's own brand of weird will have quite the appeal

Right now though very much enjoying Beck Mongolian Chop Squad.

Its pretty neat show and turns out of my friends made a review of it while ago so as we're watching it he's giving us all kind of trivia from the show (like the fact it was the only anime to ever air on MTV)

https://youtu.be/OjEmkwHC4nk

For example, since most of the budget went to hiring the band beat crusader to make the music... the animation budget runs a lil sparse which is always a funny time when you point it out.

Yeah, looks like a good trailer to me. The big wide open environments look great and I like that the show is legitimately big.
