Second-last Dragon Ball Super episode just aired, and I was really impressed with the fighting. There's been sooo many episodes of just repeated effect frames scooting across the background, the blandest of fighting depictions, but this episode was the complete opposite with almost zero repetition whatsoever and a lot of great choreography. It was actually pretty engaging for the whole episode. Only 1 more episode to go, not a lot of time to wrap the whole series up!

Agreed.

This was an episode full of quality animation. Its impressive how much they managed to actually show while engaged in combat at hyper speeds.

I will admit that last "plot twist" annoyed me. It was foreshadowed several times throughout the tournament but i still wasn't impressed.

Despite that it was a REALLY good fight. Cant think of a dbz battle that came close in comparison.

I like the plot twist in a "if you told me this situation would happen 10 years ago I would never have believed you" but the actual moment of the twist could have been a bit better and leaves some unanswered questions as to how none of the characters noticed.

Im never watching this show with other ppl.

I like the character development, and I'm half expecting her to have a PTSD induced breakdown that goes beyond the cracks we've seen thus far.

Ryou carries onward. The character development is actually getting interesting - the Ryou himself is buckling and breaking down, whilst those around him are improving in spite of the worry he's caused them. I think next week is the last episode? We'll see what happens.

I mean some of this stuff is absolutely ridiculous and I love it.

Aaaaaaaaaand Dragon Ball Super is finished. After something like 2 and a half years. Wow.

Looking back on the whole show, it's an interesting beast, and in some ways not really just one show at all.

You've got the first 20-30 episodes that are the same arcs as the God of Destruction and Resurrection F movies, which are fine but also somewhat underwhelming since they feel stretched out and not as flashy compared to the movies.

Then you've got the middle two arcs that are entirely new arcs with a fair chunk of worldbuilding in them. I really liked the Universe 6 arc, but the Future Trunks arc probably has the lowest points of the series.

And then lastly you have the gigantic 55 episode Universal Tournament. It's monstrously long, and pretty generic in premise and setup - especially coming not long after the smaller tournament in the Universe 6 arc *and* its own mini-tournament prologue. Man, some of this arc was such a slog, it's just too long for the format. But on the flip side, some of this arc was amaaaazing, and I think it definitely had the best fights and the best animation... just not always... definitely not always. Also, the UT arc had a lot of these little nostalgic moments or callbacks, like Goku re-enacting his duel with Roshi (?) and visiting some of the much older characters, plug bringing back many "retired" characters into proper fighting form. UT is definitely the arc that felt the most like a Dragon Ball Z arc, I'd say, and ends up feeling very different from the other two thirds of the series.

As for the last episode

I agree with ALL of this.

It was a very nice addition. I wondered if I liked it more than GT or AF and weirdly enough I was not convinced till that last tournament came along and delivered everything we really wanted from DBZs successor. Tournament arcs get a lot of flak for being semi-predicatable but the writing here wasn't lazy, The stakes were always in perspective, and all the known characters were 100% authentic yet given space to develop.

It is bizarre to me that super was running for two years. It didn't feel like all that much content.

I am truly impressed. Now to go watch Mahou Shoujo Ore because my brother tells me it was pretty good.

Finished:

Ryou's Work - ended kind of predictably. It was nice in that it was pure character growth.

Citrus - again, predictable ending, enjoyable enough.

Magus Bride had a few twists and turns near the very end. Enjoyed this one.

Magical Girl Ore is full of more WTF than ranma 1/2 and strawberry basket combined.

Speaking of Mahou Shojo, my local manga store turns out to have MGRP manga in stock. I might partake...

Last episode of Further didn't compel me at all. I'm noticing a recent trend with dissatisfactory endings in anime.

I liked it... but yeah I guess it didn't have as big of an impact as some previous episodes. I'd still call it satisfying, just not as much of a "big" scene to it as the running scene in episode 2 or the 'piss off' scene or last episode.

I'm not sure what could have been done to have an even better ending, though?

There's a lot of people turning into things you don't expect. It's a massive parody of the genre.

The humor is REALLY hit or miss. I got enough hits to enjoy episode one. Episode two was a bit blegh. Jury's still out on this one.

Anyone on here watch/read Gintama?

<--- Not sure if you can tell but it's one of my favourite shows, and it's ending soon which will be one of the sadder moments of my life.

Ha yes some people really don't like it, depends on your sense of humour I guess. Although lots of people say it gets better after 25 episodes so it depends where you stopped.

I loved Gintama but like most long running shounen I didnt have the time to keep watching it and seasonal shows.

I maintain to this day there are few shows that can beat Gintamas serious arcs. Hidden amidst the jokes there have been some diamonds.

I definitely agree with that, I find the story and writing is a lot better than some of the other mainstream shounen shows, and personally I love the comedy episodes as well.

There are a crapton of episodes so it is hard to keep up for sure
