Ha yes some people really don't like it, depends on your sense of humour I guess. Although lots of people say it gets better after 25 episodes so it depends where you stopped.

I had heard so many bad things about the "rough start" of Gintama that I didn't even try to watch it from the start. I just hopped around to a bunch of random episodes.

I actually really liked the first few episodes I watched and found them very funny, but the more I watched the less funny it became, even when going to the supposed best episodes as recommended by fans. I think it's just a "small doses" thing for me.

Legend of Galactic Heroes remake starts tomorrow and I have just barely, barely managed to complete the original in the last few seconds (okay, actually I finished it on Friday).

My overall thoughts on it: for the most part I enjoyed the series, but at the same time some sections really dragged on and unfortunately the first third of the series is by far the best. Aside from a couple major events in the second half, the latter two thirds of the series have way too many "yes men" characters and almost no new elements/major characters being introduced. The whole show is paced very leisurely, but in the first third it still feels energetic because of all the conflicts and new characters/worldbuilding, but the rest consequently loses that energy.

Still, major points for how high-mindedly the show handles its politics and philosophy, and for never taking the easy way out of its narratives. There's really nothing like it.

Wish the handful of female characters weren't all love interests of the major male characters.

IT STARTS TOMORROW>?????

OMG OMG OMG.

Please tell me its on crunchyroll...

I think part of the reason it feels like its slowed down is that by the mid point all the players are on the board and they can't just keep creating new ones.

In regards to female characters, its 80s anime so regrettably you're asking for something that wasn't a consideration in those days.

SUUUUPER creepy to hear him talk seriously through an entire video but damn it if he isn't right.

So what was your guilty pleasure?

Also what happened to the hype train this season?

Every now and then when Gigguk isn't making funny memes or backpedaling from shilling otaku scams he makes some pretty good and heartfelt videos.

It's still there! I watched the first episodes of the new Lupin III and Gegege Kitaro and both were AWESOME! And there's a lot of great-looking shows starting up later this week or early next week. I think Easter just made a bit of a speedbump for not posting about it right from the start.

I think I'm most curiosity-piqued about Hisone to Maso-tan, about an air force girl who finds and flies a dragon. But it's not starting until the 13th.

Not sure if anyone here likes Fairy Tail but I came across this article yesterday.

http://goboiano.com/...l-season-debut/

So the new season will air this fall and 2 sequel manga are going to begin, one acting as a sequel. He hasn't said if he's the one doing these spin-offs or getting someone else. I really don't like it when someone takes over these kind of series, it never feels the same

I had this completely generic Shingeki no Bahamut type image of what this would look like and googling it had me in stitches. It looks amazingly fun.

I hear a lot about Lupin but I'm still not sure I have a good grasp on the hype. As a fan can you maybe help me out? Is it the dialogue?

YES! that was really interesting to watch and that mech at the end is on my bucket list. I MUST go see it in person. absolutely have to!
I feel like Darling in the Franxx might be picking up on the new love for mecha. those Evangelion re-makes stir a ton of interest!

Yeah, I agree.

Although the director for DBS REALLY did a good job channeling Toriyama's' will and intention.

I'm sorry to say I long forgot when last I read fairy tail I do recall some great episodes but it got a bit cyclical awesome to hear theres a conclusion to this. I assume Natsu finally caught up with Igneel?

I was a Naruto fan, it was my guilty pleasure and I regret nothing and I have to admit the finale REALLY did it for me. Absolute catharsis. I wonder if releasing a prequel with the debut is going to water down the effect? Had Boruto come out during the Ninja Arc of Shipuuden I'd have been extremely annoyed.

It's probably the characters and tone more than anything else. They're all this great blend/hybrid of competent professionals and earnest goofballs at the same time.

And also Lupin III is just such a cultural icon at this point. He gets compared to James Bond a lot, and it's a good comparison. Both have huge franchises that have lasted decades. Both Bond and Lupin have a fifties/sixties-era gentlemanly bad boy style (and are womanizers) even when they're in a modern setting. Both have had many different authors/directors interpret the characters differently - e.g. Miyazaki's Castle of Cagliostro has a very heroic Lupin versus other versions that have him be much more criminal or morally ambiguous.

Also like Bond there's no major continuity so you can watch any movie/series episode in any order (the only continuity in Lupin is that the 2015 series had a serial plot within itself).

I haven't even seen that much Lupin. I've seen a dozen or so episodes of the first couple old series, a handful of the movies/TV special, and I watched the whole 2015 series. But I loved the 2015 series, and this new series is made by the same people so that's why I'm so hyped for this one.

If you want to sample something, go watch episodes 7 and 8 from the 2015 series (aka Part 4). You won't necessarily know all the background, but you'll be fine. One of these episodes showcases the fast-paced wacky adventure side of the show and the other showcases the show's mystery and emotional chops. If you don't like them, well then no need to be excited for the new series.

Looks great!

I never really watched much mecha anime (other than evengelion, that mars one with the princess and the guys, samurai flamenco was decent until it turned into a mecha show halfway through and it turned to shit), but I've seen a couple episodes of darling in the franxx and it seems decent so far.

I don't think I ever finished watching FT (they did a big stretch of filler episodes so I stopped) but I did read the manga to the end. As far as I remember I liked the ending of it, Natsu did meet up with Igneel and a bunch of stuff happens, it did have a good conclusion, definitely worth reading if you've put any time into the series to finish it off.

I liked Naruto as well, it's not the most amazing show but it is pretty entertaining. I have a friend who's super against all the mainstream stuff but I figure whatever you like what you like. I really couldn't get into Boruto at all, the art style and story didn't grab me, especially all the use of technology and what not just didn't seem right.

Damn.

And indeed, what a legend. Fifty years of groundbreaking works. He's left some very, very big shoes to fill.

Ok so I decided to look up some of the Lupin starting with the 2015 series like you suggested, I will pop in for feedback. It will slot into my watch rotation/ starting Overlord 2 and be picking up Magus Bride once more now that the dubs are done and I can watch it as I work.

Once upon a time, Goose said to Maark "there's a meanness to your characters" and Maark thought "well, maybe".

Then Maark watched Magical Girl Site.

And said "nani the actual fuck" because my characters seem super nice somehow by comparison to these.

KonoSuba is a parody of fantasy issekai. Ore is a parody of mahout shojo, whereas stuff like Site, Madoka, Raising Project are deconstructions.

My current list as it stands:

Amanchu! - For relaxing moeblob time.

Claymore - this seems old and they uploaded a job lot of episodes in one go. It's like a Japanese take on The Witcher.

Lostorage Conflated WIXOSS - Wixoss 2 part 2. I was hype when I found out this dropped as Lostorage Incited was a sleeper hit of 2016 for me. I also need to watch Selector Spread WIXOSS at some stage as I never did get around to that.

Magical Girl Ore - see above. Absolutely entertaining.

Magical Girl Site - Suffering the likes of which my book can only dream of. Borders on unnecessary levels at times but hey, that just means it's time for big boy pants.

LOTGH - Space battles! Exploding!

I also binged a few series last week:

Elfen Lied - 02 makes sense now.

AICO Incarnation - what begins as a moderately interesting sci-fi expands into an existential and moral question.

One Punch Man - This was pretty fun as a deconstruction of shonen/superhero stuff.
