Alright, finished Attack on Titan S2! That ending was actually really good, I liked how it all came together. The setup from episodes 10 and 11 were kinda wonky, so I was worried it wouldn't be a satisfying climax, but nope they really brought it all together quite well. Even more unanswered questions, but I think we can imagine a few different plausible theories to tie it all together now. And season 3 is confirmed for 2018, so it won't be so much of a wait to continue!

I'm catching up on Kado now. Really enjoying it so far, but (a) I do feel like the humans simply aren't asking enough questions relative to the amount of time passing, and (b) the budding romance/antics between Tsukai and Shindo feel really abrupt and kinda forced-in... feels like a whole other show being merged into this one, in some ways. Not sure I'm liking that part much just yet.

I kinda feel like since we had our reveal episode the show has kinda gone down in terms of enjoyment. Like the cat was let out of the bag to early.

Flip side, Re Creators keeps getting better, Looking forward to the 2nd cour of the show! Really enjoying how most of the cast has started to evolve and change in a way they've gone beyond their stories. Though i feel like this guy does a pretty good job explaining it

AOT was great, quite enjoyed it.

Mostly caught up on Bahamut, kinda feels weaker than season 1, nina just isn't entertaining of a character at this point.

Has anyone watched March comes in like a lion?

Is it any good?

I watched the first 3 (?) episodes. Has a lot of potential, I guess, but it felt very slow and plodding, and stuff just kinda happens without the story actually telling you what is going on or how the characters are feeling, which IMO is especially annoying because the main character is a sadsack. But it probably gets really good and moving and makes you cry if you stick with it and get really into it I bet.

A friend of mine reccomended it to me.

she said it was one of her all time favorites which was a bit of a shock since she likes gorey stuff, seinen anime like Parasite or Gants is more her speed.

She did turn me on to Bakuman (manga the anime) which is my all-time fav for subjective reasons so im gonna follow the rabbit hole and see where it goes. Thanks for weighing in D'rek!

In other news, Little Witch Academia finale was this weekend. It went out with a big bang, the last few episodes are a very solid climax and lots of beautiful animation, too. The secondary characters kinda got screwed/forgotten, though! Imagine if after the fourth book of Harry Potter Hermione and Ron got progressively less and less screen-time and the last books were all Harry/Draco/Dumbledore/Voldemort. It's like that. Wish they could have incorporated Sucy and Lotte into the last few episodes more.

Yes it is novel unique. You have a collection of characters from various media all being forced to interact in various ways. You see a magical girl being forced to react to the fact in this world violence causes blood. You have a self righteous knight whos rigid adherance to morality being manipulated by our villain.

You have character who all experience growth outside of their written archetypes and even offer little gems. Like how character A comments the food in our world is more textual because obviously the writter didn't bother to describe it.

FInally half way through we have the introduction of a villain who is fantastic. Her power is amazing and she throws everything into chaos.

This show is amazing go watch it.

Main character does grow btw.

AoT 34 Opening. Holy shit. So HORRIBLE! An entire episode spent in a FUCKING TREE TALKING! Reminded me of SoA Gun in the cave. I hate when the squads have to speak at full gallop to especially the parts where they are talking in normal volumes and not shouting like you would have to do irl. I know it's a cartoon but holy shit come on and then to top it off in the tree with Titans around you would think that a quite convo would make sense ya know so as to not get the attention of more of them but nooooooo...ole dude hollers at the top of his fucking lungs through the whole damn episode.

When this show is bad it is painfully bad.

Rant over

you mean an entire episode spent exploring character motivations? an entire episode spent going over character interactions and realising they are not cardboard cutouts? Fantastic!

Also none of the titans can touch them in the trees, they were quite safe.

Yeah, I really have no problem with the Attack on Titan pacing/structuring/etc. I like that the characters are being given deeper motivations tied into their backstories and whatnot (though some of those motivations are a bit oddly simplistic). It's narratively awkward to have these big discussions and flashbacks, but I can't think of any better way to do it. If they'd tried to actually show all this stuff chronologically we would have all gotten bored during the training camp, and I'm sure I'd be much more annoyed if they had all these conversations in the middle of Titan battles (like less grounded action series over-do way too much - looking at you Hero Academia!).

@Re:Creators - okay, I'll check it out!

Despite the stupid name, I am hoping that Princess Principal is actually good.

There's also Galaxy☆Tylor, which is either a remake or spin-off of the old Captain Tylor series (which I haven't seen either, but is a bit of a classic I think?)

If you like comedy the original captain tylor was great.

Old show, so ofc there aren't any highlights to be found on youtube.

Oh my god. The Kado finale is amazing. One third giant plot twist, one third glorious, one third total train wreck. Just wow.

Back off of my holiday.

Finished all my follows this month, they were generally serviceable, nothing hugely outstanding bar AoT and Akashic Records.

I've picked up The Ancient Magus' Bride; I don't know if the version presently on CR is the OVA or the new series, but either way it's good so far. Very slow and sedate pace, gorgeous soundtrack.

This next season coming up also looks kind of dull. There's not really a big ticket item to sucker me in like last year. We'll have to see what takes my fancy, I guess.

ending was pretty good, did not really see that one coming.

Not sure what to think about the show, maybe watching the show piece meal was not the best approach

The episodes that are out now are a 3-part OVA that is a prequel to the main series. From what I can gather, they were originally just making the OVA episodes as a bonus giveaway with the manga, but now they've also announced a TV adaptation of the manga's main storyline starting this Fall.

And yeah, those OVA episodes are great. I love the art style, and the cinematography, music, etc, are really good. The story is cool, though will probably make more sense once we're halfway through the series or so and the OVAs are sort of a flashback to Chise's childhood.

It's not because you watched it piecemeal. It's not because you were busy. It just wasn't a good show. At all!
