So can someone tell me if anything interesting happened in this ep of log horizon. I stopped watching after 8 minutes. Seriously it keeps oscillating between being interesting and the most boring crap ever.

And again this week. Literally 24 minutes of people just talking complete nonsense in circles while in the background thousands of Wyverns rampage over a city (but despite the number and strength of those Wyverns logically being able to easily level the entire city and slaughter every person within those 20 minutes I'm sure next episode it'll turn out they barely did any damage at all by the time the protagonists get off their asses and do anything).

Oh well, my expectations were low going in :p

---

Not much to say about Durarara this week - it continues being excellent! Vorona and Slon turned out pretty good. And oh my god, Yodogiri is on-scene now... ooh the spoiler tingles are starting, it's going to be hard holding myself back for the next 14 months until this finishes!

---

Death Parade - Awww, the show about torturing people with mind games and sending them to hell did a lovey Valentine's Day episode! How creepy!

It's 2:30 in the morning. I *might* be more than a little bit drunk (hey, it's valentine's day, whatever). So for some reason that means I need to watch Rolling Girls... makes sense somehow. I don't know what it is about this show - any other show with the same weird plot structure I'd accuse of things just happening without explanation or character development but somehow this show just resonates with me too much and I am way too happy/sad/connected to the characters and just love every minute of it. Can I give this show which is not a tangible object a big giant hug?!

Hollywood needs more background. I remember there being more background in the novels. >.>

Cherry-picking this comment from last page...

Silencer, how far did you get in the novels? I had read up to #7 before, but recently I re-read #4 and read 8-10. #4 doesn't really give that much background on Hollywood. It doesn't even really mention
Spoiler

The bigger backstory information came more in volume #8, I think
Spoiler

Hence Yuhei saying at the end of volume 4 / x2 Shou episode 4 that he didn't want Ruri to tell him about her, yet. There's more to come!

I'm not sure actually. I remember being beyond the bit with Mikado and Anri being tour guides, but I can't remember how much further than that I was. I definitely recall there being some Hollywood pov-ish stuff that was more information than what we've had so far, though.

Also; totally forgotten the impact of the first episode of Shingeki no Kyojin. Man that thing hits like a truck. XD (doing a full rewatch while I'm on holiday) and dat OP...no wonder it got mixed into so many videos on YouTube. Rofl.

i finished the evangelion movies. and UGH the MC fricking annoys the hell out of me. but the rest of the characters apart from the MCs father are coolio. but the third movie was hard to watch it seemed really disjointed and weird, theres like a half an hour where he just plays the piano and looks for rei and its like why am i watching this. but the first 2 movies were quite good and i though there was good character development but then all that development went to shit in the 3rd one.

Consider that the movies and tv series are mostly a meditation upon being alone.

Depression, family, confronting real life and monsters all mix together too, but loneliness and how some people choose it and some fight it is the main topic.

The piano playing is significant to me because here's a teenager who is thrust into a position of crazy importance with very little training, understanding or support. He reaches out to try and make friends, haphazardly and with limited skill, and sometimes, he's rebuffed. Kaworu choose to engage him and it's interesting to see that.

The movies are superior to the show in my opinion and dwell less gratingly upon loneliness. The writers figured out how better to approach the topics.

i couldn't make heads or tails of what the character wanted. he must of said he was never gonna pilot an EVA again like a hundred times. i understand he was lonely but over the series a mini group was established, and whilst the group got some development, rei asuka etc the MC didnt really change. i think what I'm trying to say is more character development is needed for the mc IMO he's fairly one dimensional but i may just be having a narrow minded view of thingss

The piano scene is not for comedy in the Japanese original.

It's a scene of friendship - although not too many Western men would bond through piano playing these days - after many friendships have been broken earlier in the movie. I think that particular scene plays better in Japan, where there's more piano playing in the big cities.

i got the sense that it offered ikari another chance at friendship, especially when all the others couldn't bear to associate themselves with him after what he did. but still they could have added a bit more dialogue in those scenes. i really like kawarou (sorry i know its spelt wrong) but again cause we mainly saw him in those piano scenes we didnt really get much from him.

That whole Kaworu thing is a strange one in the Evangelion universe.

The movies are a sort of re-telling and expansion/contraction of the TV series, alongside games and manga. In the original TV series, Kaworu was in 1 episode. That's it. He was hugely popular despite his brief appearance, so the spin-offs of the TV series (the manga and games) expanded his role in things.

All three movies put him increasingly in the center of the story - but it's not done in a way that obliterates everything else in the previous versions of Evangelion. So for the person that has followed the different forms of Evangelion over the years, Kaworu has this... long building backstory behind him and his appearance here is almost an expression of destiny and/or an avatar form of some meta-Kaworu in the meta-Evangelion story.

The movies seem to straddle a middle ground in between the more extreme ends of the spectrum of Kaworu's previous manifestations. But... if you've only watched the movies, that's all you know - which is enough to make the judgment of not liking Kaworu and the scene. That is perfectly valid, but I do urge people to take a moment and think about it a little before going back to the "Yep, that didn't work for me" judgment.

I think the artists/creators wanted us the audience to be a little weirded out by the whole thing, yet understanding of the connection of friendship between lonely people here.

This Week!

Death Parade - Holy revelations Batman! That is a lot to process! I am definitely getting the sense that Nona is breaking a lot of rules, and that if/when Oculus finds out he is going to be really, really, really pissed.

Durarara!! x2 Shou - I kind of imagined Lingerin being a bit more intimidating-looking. I mean, sure, his hands are stuck in jars, so he's a bit of a goofball, but I thought he'd have that mixed with some mean looks, too. Oh well, he burned a building down around his enemies, it works. Drakon is perfect.

And really, who brings lock cutters to a sword fight? :p

Log Horizon - The non-sensical lines from the OP are starting to bleed into the writing. "I never received a manual for this world." Random mid-fight proposals between strangers! {"I won't let you pass! You're just going to go kill yourself!" "Let us pass, we want to go die!" "Okay, fine"} and of course "I'm going to do something! Everyone listen to me sing while you're getting slaughtered!" This show has totally gotten hilarious to watch in all the wrong ways.

Assassination Classroom - I liked the back-and-forth success/failure of the characters here, and seeing the multiple sides/facades of the new villain was well done. I wonder how much long-term effects this will actually have on the plot though? Or is it just a one-off, resume status quo next week? (Could go either way)

This will be brilliant.

also i just realised something, Assasination classroom had to the potential to be a 5 episode anime. Recall the episode with the shy girl and the poison. What if she had melted a knife and put it into the solution the dude drank?
