I'm of the opinion that Ciaphas Cain has or should have utterly replaced Flashman.

Hey, i like Cain too, but GMF's work with Flash Harry remains iconic if only because of the amount of genuine historical fact/people he squeezed into the narrative.

Also, Mark, I reiterate my 'Damn You!' point.

Got a copy of Prince of Fools today at 2nd and Charles, 8$. Literally looks like someone bought it off the shelves then sold to the Used Book Store. Almost shit myself when I saw it knowing its been there for 4 days and no one picked it up. Lol speaking of Fools.

I finished Emperor of Thorns yesterday. What a ride!

I intuited early on in the book that
Spoiler

However, that didn't make the reveal any less enjoyable. Thanks for convincing me to read it (here)!

Good to hear! Now all I need is to repeat the process with ten thousand other people :)

My own poll shows that Prince is the least popular of the trilogy with people who have read all three - though of course there are some who are very firmly in the 'Prince camp'.

Fortunately the numbers show a pretty good follow-through from Prince onto the next book.

It's not hard to find series that lose 80 or 90% of readers after volume 1,

I honestly almost did the same thing when I was reading Prince. Not that the book was bad or anything, I picked it up cause I never heard of you and everyone was talking about this series on the forums. I think some readers, especially ones who aren't avid Fantasy fans get discouraged when they are thrown into a world where they don't understand what is happening when. When I pushed through the first one and got into King I started to imagine how this trilogy would work and really got into Jorg's character (Lets be honest people, Jorg was a horrible person but we all were rooting for him). LOVED the third one even if you threw everything together in the last like 20 pages. (I kept thinking how is he going to end this series, there's like 10 pages left? lol). Just picked up Prince of Fools today, keep up the good work Mr. Lawrence.

Many thanks - hope you enjoy it.

I've now heard from people who:

i) loved Prince of Thorns but didn't like King & Emperor
ii) loved King and Emperor but didn't much like Prince of Thorns
iii) loved the whole trilogy but didn't like the end
iv) loved the whole trilogy and thought the end was perfect
v) loved Prince of Thorns but not Prince of Fools
vi) loved Prince of Fools but not Prince of Thorns

all of which repeats what everyone knows - it is what it is, get on with writing what you want to write

Great advice. I'm inspired to start writing my epic trilogy about an evil hamburger that --- get this -- bites back!

I'm pretty sure that Goodkind already did this with his chicken that is not a chicken.

Butcher completely upstaged that Goodkind demon-chicken with a Denarian demon-chicken. It's the best little detail I've found lately in the Dresden books.

Mr. Lawrence, you had 6 months to get bigger muscles than Myke Cole.

Did you do it?

Sadly, despite hefting a 25kg girl around all the time, I'm not built to put muscle on.

From his recent photos it looks like Abercrombie has been mainlining steroids and pro-growth though! And our host Marc Aplin is a mixed martial arts former cage fighter with muscle to spare!

Almost enough to tempt me to the South but alas, I am on holiday!

Abercrombie was up in Newcastle at the end of June, always an entertaining guy, should be a great first event for you!

Hey Mark,

Was just wondering if the mathemagicians were going to make an appearance in the new series.
Loved reading about them in the Broken Empire trilogy and want more hehe

They do - I've just been writing a scene at the Mathema for the last book in the trilogy.

My own humble opinion of the books is that it is nice and gritty, with quite a lot of humor, and generally a good story, written nicely, kept me reading on and on.

And is the June 15 date likely, or is that a case of wild optimism/ sacrificing the wrong kind of chicken/ blind guesswork?

I didn't put that and I suspect it's a guess, but I'm pretty sure it will be in June sometime, probably early. It's all written, 95% publisher edited, & I've seen roughs for the cover.

In summary then, the correct chicken was sacrificed.

Excellent.

Read the whole Prince of Fools on the train today. Highly enjoyed it, even if it was a bit short for my taste.
