Either way, it was a complete clusterfuck. I remember the shock at how bad the story was, especially considering how much Bungie had talked up their amazing story and lore beforehand.

Absolutely. Considering they came out and said at the start of D2 (which by all accounts actually has a coherent and decent story this time around) that they didn't even know exactly what the big bad Darkness was when doing D1 shows how much of a rush job their second story was. Then shoving all their lore into the companion app etc was just adding insult to injury.

I got to the 2nd map in Shadow of Mordor. Met the Dwarf. Now I have to either find his camp or return to the Queen with the hammer.

The dwarf's missions don't move the story on but they do have some pretty cool encounters, so I'd suggest doing all of those first

I'm still on XCOM 2: War of the Chosen. It's awesome, one of the best expansions I've played, right up there with the Witcher 3 expansions. The new faction classes, the new enemies, new mission types, Fire Emblem-style bonding system and the Chosen themselves are all brilliant. I've killed one of them so far. Now the other two are pursuing me. That, plus the Avatar project - the game is relentless now. And they've sorted out the performance problems - it runs fast and smooth and maps load within a few seconds.
It's about to overtake Witcher 3 as my most played game on Steam (219 hours vs W3's 222).

Goodness me I'm loving Mass Effect Andromeda. I don't get why so many people hated it?

A lot of people associate ME with linear corridor shooters, where Andromeda was mainly huge, open spaces. That and it's undeniably quite gimpy in places.
I also very much enjoyed it but it's a flawed product. And people are legitimately angry that the devs have dropped the story DLC but are still updating the (crap) multiplayer.
Infiltrator with a turret was fun. Pew pew speed stealth with area control.

I guess that makes sense but hey they never said it was going to be the same game. Not really come across any gimpy moments yet.
I get the anger about the DLC but I don't pay multiplayer so I'm just gonna keep enjoying the main game. It'll take me that long to finish I'll definitely get my money's worth.

The thing with Andromeda is that the gimpy moments aren't game breaking. They do kill the immersion a little, but it's funny stuff, like the door on the Nomad opening and punting you into the air if you're landing on top of it when the doors open, or rolling out of the map, or a character's leg twitching in a cutscene in a way that's entirely unnatural.

Or how godawful the dialogue was. I watched a quick look of the first 30 min or so, and it was to me very clear that the people who made this game had little interest in storytelling.

Finished up the final bit of DLC for Shadow of Mordor this morning. Also managed to get a lv25 rune pretty quickly with the higher level enemies in The Bright Lord, so I finally got my platinum trophy because thankfully it still counted if you get it with Celebrimbor in the dlc and not with Talion in the main game.
In all honesty I found the Bright Lord dlc pretty disappointing really. Without the One Ring powers - which to begin with, last a very short time - Celebrimbor is ridiculously squishy and frankly just not as good as Talion, which makes no sense because it's Celebrimbor's shade that makes Talion as good as he is anyhow. And of course when you do have access to the One Ring powers - plus lengthened time of usage from the missions you can do - you're literally untouchable and nothing has any challenge whatsoever. So the entire dlc becomes a matter of trying to survive while you build up the hit counter enough to keep using flash dominate - and god damn Talion increases the counter sooooo much easier - then dominate enough Uruks to power the ring then just murder everything - including Sauron!
Bright Lord aside though I found the game immensely enjoyable, really, really looking forward to Shadow of War now.

I'm now on the Good Ending pathway for MegaNeps. And hooo boy the true end game content is rather something. Thoughts below:
- To get any decent weapons, I need to invest 3 million credits into Commerce in Zero Dimension so I can access Evonium, however the weapons from this have base STR of 500+
- Dungeons are challenging again because enemies take proportionate damage and hit hard enough that I need Disc regen on my front line
- Some of the dungeons I've unlocked I'm too low level for (My party is S-Sha at 66, Uzume at 66, Nepgear at 65 and Blanc at 60). This is not ideal, but at least the dungeons I can grind reliably now give me on average 20k exp per battle. Plan for the moment is to level up, let my scouts rake in money from the higher level dungeons, and then upgrade my weapons and armour some.
- Senmuu Labyrinth. Oh my god. So there's a trophy for getting one party member to L99, and this dungeon is where you do it as there's an enemy who grants some ludicrous exp. Problem is, the base mobs aren't taking damage from my party, and there's also no map. Oh, and from what I understand, it's where the optional show-off boss is located. I also need to beat everything in there at least once to unlock the hidden treasure for that trophy.

Played a bit of Metroid: Samus Returns over the weekend. So good to have a 'proper' Metroid game after the last couple of releases were such rubbish.
Also continuing with XCOM 2: War of the Chosen.

My macbook said a final farevel after six and a half years of service on saturday. So today I'm buying a new one, and will finally be able to try out Warhammer Total War.

It's good on the 3DS, too - it gives a lovely depth to the environments, and you always have the option to turn the 3D off if you don't like it.

I finished Shadow of Mordor over the weekend. Thank god that my branded bodyguards got promoted into the Warchief roles after I accidentally killed a warchief, or I'd still be trying to finish the game.
I had a branded chief with fire arrows. He was wreaking the Hands' of Sauron at the end of the game. Total beast mode.
I moved on to X-Com 2, a friend loaned it to me. I'll probably end up getting my own copy.

I haven't really had to use it as yet, apart from the tutorial bit. I'm less sure about the counter move, tbh, but I'm getting used to it.
