I believe it is. Don't really know though.

On a side note, The Prethoryn Scourge (zerg, tyrand -ish) has come to the galaxy and landed right in the middle of my biggest enemy.

Good times.

Oh yeah, I've developed Sentient AI and Android armies. Because that NEVER ends badly :D

Took a day off. I've been playing Doom for a couple hours now. It's amazing.

It's both a really good FPS game and a very faithful attempt at making a modern version of the original Dooms campaign.

The way the demons move and challenge you is fantastic. They are fast but you have speed as well, so you find yourself dodging in and out between possessed humans and fireball throwing imps and machine gun wielding zombies.

I love what they are doing with the games presentation. You are still the nameless, voiceless protagonist from Doom but they are leaning into this. Your character is now some kind of mythological entity named the Doom Marine. There are little details in the way the character acts in scripted events that gives you the feeling that you are playing an avatar of destruction. There is a feeling of barely contained rage in your actions.

Not quite sure how I feel about the challenge system and the unlock/level up process so far, but it's early days still.

From all I can tell this is one of the best shooter games I have ever played.

Depends. Was your PC a state of the art behemoth meant to send North Korean missles at Japan in 2010?

You should probably look up the requirements. My PC is around 3-4 years old and while I can keep some setting on Ultra and high, it's really pushing the system.

The amount of particle effecys and crazy lighting is pretty impressive. It's a very good looking game.

Just grabbed Doom and have been playing all day. I'd heard a lot of bad things about MP, but after seeing some impressions of the campaign I bought a copy. And I'm glad I did. It's the perfect combination of what made classic Doom great combined with some of the more modern game elements. I love the brutal, violent combat (especially the glory kill system), the level deigns are well done and include classic things like key cards and secret areas, and the overall speed of the game feels right. Totally recommend this one.

Hit a setback in Thief 3- when I migrated my install over to a new external, it refused to recognize my saves. I thought that was it, sinc I was really not gonna replay most of the game again.

Anyhow, changing drive letters fixed the issue. Finished Keeper Compound, paid a visit to Auldale, and my latest save is in the yard of the Cradle. But i'll save it for tomorrow, I thingk

I done robbed the Cradle last night. Spooky.

Does it redeem Thief 3's other (numerous) shortcomings? Not really.

Is it the most atmospheric level in gaming? I gotta say the Ocean House is still tops for me.

The sounds are great. The design is neat. The backstory is actually stronger than the Ocean House. But...

The thing with the Ocean House is that it was pretty mu designed to be a horror walking simulator. You don't do the kinds of things you do in "normal" Bloodlines levels here.

Cradle, otoh is still a Thief mission: no matter how spooky the ghostly moanings, Garrett is still skulking in the shadows, swiping candlesticks. And this residual game-ness diminishes the atmospheric impact.

Also there's that unique loot in the morgue with the sleeping sentry. Fuck him. Since I was playing on Expert I had to get past him to grab it, but I couldn't do it w/o waking him up, so I got spotted, chased and hit a few times. Not fun.

Anyhow, wrapped up the post-Cradle stuff up to talking to the Keepers again. Prolly gonna wrap up T3 sometime soon and never play it again.

Moved the plot along post-Cradle even more. Basically just need to get kitted out and then go rob the museum. You know, maybe I will replay this sometime, just to avoid selling the crown to try to break the plot. What'll happen then?

I think once I'm done here I'll play Shadowrun: Hong Kong. Maybe try a decker char this time to see that new Matrix they were implementing. My default in these games is a katana-wielding orc Adapt, so it'll be cool to try smth new...

Thief 3 update:
Well, I'm in the Museum. grabbed the first of 3 artifacts, got about 50% of the loot. Had to knock out the power station guard.
About to kill the power the second time to pull the second switch.... and then my game crashes. And my quicksave is dead. I'm basically back to the beginning of the level.

The nerves... they are frayed.

I've just reached the end - really enjoyed it.

Hetan/Mal first pointed me in the direction of Demon's Souls; I've been playing them ever since so thanks for that, best recommendation ever.

I love that DS3 has so many 'flashbacks' to the previous games, including Demons. It's a proper send off to the series.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Basically, because I liked the series prior to this. And I was curious, since half the Internet believes Cradle is the most atmospheric level ever.

So I played it. but the Cradle is teh 8th of 9 real "missions". So I now I want to finish it just to see how the story ends.

The Museum is actually pretty tough and fairly enjoyable-they are squeezing the most out of the tiny Xbox-limited level size there. That crash was just... ugh.

Alienation - getting my twin stick fix on! Not sure if I am going to enjoy it as much as Helldivers but it's really fun so far.

The end is close. finished the outer part of the Museum, grabbed 2 of the 3 treasures, 2/3 unique loots, and 62% of the 90% required loot.

Hopefully I'll be able to wrap up Thief 3 tomorrow and then give myself some refresher in Witchering before the 2nd expansion comes out on Tuesday.

EDIT: finished Deadly Shadows. The post-museum part was a drag, like the City in general. But at least now I know how the story ended.
I'll install Shadowrun Hong Kong to check it out, but in the nearest future it'll be all about Geralt in Toussaint.

EDIT again: spent half a day with Shadowrun: Hong Kong yesterday.
Matrix is more complex. Not sure if it's better, but at least now it's reflex-based thather than just spawning IC on you.

There's so many missions. Basically, there's run offers non-stop, and I'm not sure when I should take a break and let my char get some shut-eye. Since the main plot revolves around magical nightmares, I feel it's important to have my char rest at some point, but runs that pop up are marked "urgent", so I don't know....

There's a bunch of choices I keep making. Haven't had any consequences whack me on the head yet, but I'm interested to see if they do.

I ended up rolling another ork adapt. Since 2 other chars in my crew are orks, I now have a 60% ork crew.

Speaking of crew- not sure about interaction. my decker seems a really personal sort, and I don't want to pry into her life. But otoh, I missed out on a really cool quest in Dragonfall b/c I didn't start prying soon enough into one of my crew's past, and I don't want to be burned again....

I think I'll just play it nice this time, and then be rude and invasive in my next playthrough.
Also- Academic etiquette seems real important- missing out a lot of convo options cuz I didn't pick it up yet. Didn't expect it to be this way- figured ganger or security would be more important.

Overall, in case you can't tell, I'm quite involved in Hong Kong, :( feeling immersed, even if there's no real "main quest" to speak of, yet.

^^ I loved Dragonfall, then contributed to the Kickstarter for Hong Kong, and have barely touched it Posted Image Must get back to it at some point, but it won't be any time soon, cos . . .

I'm still playing Crusader Kings II. My Norse Jarl called Frederik - who was my first character Haraldr's bastard son (and who turned out to be a damn sight more use than Haraldr's legitimate son, Halfdan, who opposed and raised an army against his father before being beaten and imprisoned like he deserved) - formed the Kingdom of Norway before dying at the age of 52. His heir Dyre last night subjugated Sweden just in time to fight wars against five separate Catholic kingdoms who'd taken a dislike to him for some reason. Can't imagine why. Maybe because he kept throwing their emissaries in the dungeon and leaving them to rot . . .

Subjugation of Finland planned next. Fun!

And then, of course, Hearts of Iron IV is released next week.

Finished Doom last week.

New Doom has to be one of the best single player FPS experiences I've ever played through. I don't think it's quite as perfect as a lot of people are claiming. The pacing is a bit off and the story was nonsense but the gameplay is amazing.

Fast and furious perfectly describes the way you should approach the game. Just run right at the demons at top speed and fuck them up. Never show fear, never back down, never stop shooting.

Really exhilarating when you're used to games punishing you for rushing.

Started up The Witcher 3 again during the weekend in anticipation of Blood and Wine. The story quests in these games are incredible. Spent a couple hours entertaining a ghost at a peasant wedding, chasing pigs, diving for boots, trying to get into the women folks panties. There are no other games that are quite as imaginative as the writing in the Witcher.

Heart of Stone was really good. My favourite bits of Witcher 3 writing are still probably the optional quests- "Mortal Sins" in Novigrad, Keiris' line on Skellige, and Keira's tasks in Velen.
I've just started "Blood and Wine", probably won't have a good impression of it until Friday.
