Got the Gods and Kings expansion for Civ 5, and am currently playing it via my tablet (streaming from my pc to my android tablet, not the windows tablet versions which look like they are much better optimised). The civ games were just made for touch screen, I can't wait until more games are available for touch screen (and on android), as it's really been a very natural experience thus far.

Sadly crusader kings is just to fiddly for my fat fingers to handle via touch screen.

Is that like an Eclipse game played by bots and yourself? If so I may go for it...

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.

Only played for 2 or 3 hours last night - the lady bought it for my birthday - but god this game is great. Mr. Drippy is hilariously awesome and the game itself is freaking gorgeous. Hats of to Studio Ghibli, though it shouldn't be any surprise - they made Princess Mononoke, which has been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid. I spent probably half an hour or more just reading through the entire Spell Book. Haven't got too far in to judge it gameplay-wise, but between capturing familiars and creating stuff with alchemy it seems like it should be a blast.

I'd describe eclipse as a simplified civilisation in space, so yes fairly similar. Be warned it is addictive.

I'm about 25 hours in, and I still haven't found a load of the items mentioned in the Alchemy Formula section.

I'd have liked some more Zelda-esque puzzles, instead the game has gone more into the pokemon aspect, which is ok as it does it so well.

I just caught a Lumberwood, named Fangorn. Its defence is so high that Esther hasn't been knocked out since she got him.. and she had been getting knocked out a LOT. And he's only on his second form.

Still really enjoying it though, looks great, music is awesome, and mr drippy is great fun. If you like him, wait til you get to the Fairy village. Tidy!


EDIT.. I have to say, without a doubt, that the copy of 'The Wizards Companion' I got with the game is, bar none, the best thing I have ever got with a game. I know you get an in-game copy, but this is 342 pages of really well made, embossed hardback goodness. In colour. With soft pages, and a little glass bead in the centre of the front cover.
(Sorry, but I'll take a book with a load of backstory, info and maps over a load of DLC any day).

I've just been sitting reading through it, I really have to go and play some more now.

So Civ 5 is a good game? The Gold edition is on sale on steam for 9.99 euros right now, considering getting it. Even though I've got so many games to play, I've been looking at Civ 5 for quite a while.

I really want Ni No Kuni, but I think full price for games is just a bit too steep... Besides, I'm busy with inFamous 2, Heavy Rain, Valkyria Chronicles, Motorstorm: Apocalypse, Mortal Kombat, Sleeping Dogs etc etc already, and that's JUST on the PS3 xD.

I played Civilization for the first time last night. IH was right when he said it makes Eclipse look simple. Wow. I did awful, all my cities got sacked by powerful Romans. Unta, Aren, Malaz City and Darujhistan. I resigned early knowing I was just not going to win or do anything amazing. I have learned a little from the experience and tonight will try to better myself. I was researching too many different areas and not understanding a lot of what I was doing until it was too late.

Civ always seemed pretty simple to me, then again I play Civ games since childhood. The most important thing in the entire game is the early expansion and placement of cities. Once you get that done nicely, you'll be set for a win. If you encounter another strong faction from another continent in the midgame, crush them.
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.

I lost horribly. And my second and third games too (though this was civ 2).

I'd say civ 5 is one of those games where you have to play it a few times just to figure out what is going on, if you get a good start it's easy. I built monloliths, and aquaducts and researched a lot of religion. What constitutes a good location?

Alas, though Civ 5 has many interesting ideas, it's a big step back from Civ 4 in my opinion.

It was in the ancient, forgotten times of me being like 6 years old. I didn't even understand most of the words on the screen at the time (Civ was my first english teacher). So no, I don't think I remember my first game. But most of my games revolved around getting chariots fast and just drowning the AI in units. Still, it was just Civ I, so I guess the AI didn't have much to show apart from cheating and bonuses.

I used to be of the same opinion, but I'd say with the Gods and Kings expansion civ 5 has become more enjoyable than civ 4, the social policy and culture ideas have really matured in civ 5 to become an integral part of the game, wheras in civ 4 they were more tacked on.

That said I think crusader kings 2 and shogun 2 are both better turn-based games (if in very different ways).

In general having least two of either a luxury resource or a basic resource is essential, having a few bonus tiles (cows, wheat, fish, sheep etc) can only help, being on a river is always good, jungle is great for science, hills are good for building stuff, having a mix of the above usually works out.

Although a factor is also quite often strategic value. Locking down a bottleneck before your opponents can move past to settle for instance, or simply to have a good place to defend against future invasions is ideal.

I defeated the Byzantines early that way in my current game.

20 hours in on Ni no Kuni now. About to start doing some errands in the Fairy Village. The game has done nothing but get more fun by the hour. I wouldn't be surprised if I put another 60+ hours into the game; beyond doing all of the main story, there are several familiars I want to level up and metamorph, plus I'd like to get 100% completion on all o the maps and alchemy.

Just read the Tale of Wonder that serves as Drippy's origin story. I love it.

Yep, I'm going round completing sidequests and bounty hunts, and powering up new familiars before I take on the next dungeon.(Ive now got a way to reach those previously inaccessable places, so im revisiting those too).

I just walked into a temple, where the whole team got turned into frogs.. I'm now hopping around trying to find out how to get turned back.

Love all the familiar Ghibli material included too... Sky Pirates, Forest Guardians, talking cats... and a Tank named Porco Grosso.

I've made the mistake of getting on EVE. Ye gods people are dicks. I knew there was a reason I play single players.

Also have a Metro: 2033 game going too, first time so no doubt I'm missing tons of stuff but thoroughly enjoying it so far.
