Idk about Persona 5 anymore. It was extremely fun at 1st. Now it just makes me angry. It is fucking difficult imo with the limited timeframe and no magic point recharge in safe rooms. This is bad as I haven’t even completed the 1st dungeon yet at 16 hrs in. Getting stomped in battles and having to retrace my steps over and over and over and over in the quest to get to the next safe room. I’m just not digging the no magic point recharge. All my problems are coming because of that.

Really hoping I can overcome this slump and get the early feels back.

Have you tried looking online for tips or a guide? Sounds like maybe your missing something. My impression of persona games is they not meant to be so hard.

Haha. Hahahahah. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

To be fair, most Persona games are not super hard on regular difficulty - though getting all the Personas and completing the good ending/side quests is usually a challenge, but Persona is actually part of the Shin Megami Tensei series, and it's not meant to be an easy game, either.

Now, I can't remember how P5 handles this, because I stopped playing it after the first couple of missions to start a rerun of P4 Golden (final bonus dungeon ftw), but in general managing your SP is the most difficult thing, especially early on. There are items you can get to restore SP, and stocking up on those (by figuring out which days give you the best access to them) and managing the skills you have on your Personas to maximize your bonus damage against types (critical hits = far, far fewer wasted moves) is hugely important. You can go into a dungeon with max level Personas and if all they have are high-SP high-damage moves that aren't suited to the type of your enemies...you're gonna run out of SP early on and get nowhere, relying on melee attacks and such. It's very much a preparation and knowledge based game. You're sorta supposed to have to work out what the enemy types are weak to and whatnot (at least until you get certain companions who have abilities that reveal weaknesses and such later on) and to fail a few times.

If you're not having any luck, it may be best to drop back to an earlier state or look at what enemy is holding you up. I know the first dungeon in P4 kicked my ass the first time I played because the pre-dungeon practice fights had been too easy for me to start worrying about proper preparation. Also, if P5 holds to previous games, the last floor of a dungeon before a boss will usually give you an SP refill (can't remember if that was on lower difficulties only though). But the games are as much about proper time management and learning types and having the right skills equipped as they are about levels and dialogue options.

Then again, P5 might have changed up more than normal, though I kinda doubt it. The combat is basically Pokemon tbh, albeit with multiple enemies and allies and much harsher damage ratios in general, it's a little bit more complex, but it really does come down to what moves your Persona has and the damage type coverage.
Oh, and if you're playing on a higher than regular difficulty, buffs, debuffs, and learning how to fuse Personas is kinda critical, too. But tbh first dungeon is often the most difficult because you've just got limited resources.

Finished Korhal last night.

I think I'm now at a point where I stopped in Brood War the last time I attempted to play it properly (i.e, without cheats)

There's now a 2 v 1 Zerg slugfest to deal with, before Shakuras (which is relatively easy) and the final showdown(s) on Char (which are insanely hard)

I'm around half into Wolfenstein 2. People who played it will probably understand when I say the game just switched up a whooole lot of things. Boy this game goes places.

I feel like the game doesn't quite have the poetry of the first game but it sure is fucked up.

Also started up Horizon Zero Dawn and played/watched around 45 minutes. I stopped when A lot began her hunting training.

Wow. This was a hell of an opening. Despite being a bit clunky that writing hit me right in the feels. They made kid Aloy really adorable and sympathetic.

You can tell that this is a game that puts writing in the front seat.

You should drop everything and play Horizon Zero Dawn. Seriously though. If it didn't sweep every award that was given for 2017 writing/story telling in a video game, it was nominated and in the discussion for such. It's one of those games that not only are in the discussion for best game of 2017, but, in my opinion, should be in the discussion for best game of this console generation, and to take it even higher, in the discussion for one of the best games of all time. It certainly cracks my top 10, easily.

Shakuras is beginning to annoy me. Fighting 2 fully teched Protoss without any flyers? When thir dark archon convert my ultras, and 3 carriers can wipe out most of the Hydra defenders of a given base? Screw you, Blizz.

Hmm, I think this time I might have to lean into Queens and esp Defilers

I second Horizon being one of the best games of this generation, it really is that good.

Speaking of, I just completed The Last of Us for the first time - bloody hell.

meh. Cyberpunk 2077 already ruined any appreciation (sic arousal) you can muster up for a video game. It's analogous the to 12 yr. old boy who was looking at his Dad's National Geographic magazines for the tribal women, only to befriend the new kid who moved next door who shows him the collection of his Dad's Playboy magazines.

I didn't like the ending but otherwise it really is a phenomenal gaming experience.

Have you watched the last couple of "Last of us 2" trailers now?

I think we had this chat before Apt but that ending is a blinder. What an emotionally destructive finish!

The footage of TLOU2 is insane. Absolutely next level stuff. I can't see it coming out on the PS4 because of how top quality it is. Surely next gen console? PS5 or something...

I don't think the footage we've seen looks better than anything we've seen on PS4 so far. It's the direction and animation that is exceptional, not the graphical power.

Last of Us is another one of those games that should be included in discussions when "best" is brought up. BTW, have you guys played the DLC that was released for it? It's titled "Left Behind." I'm guessing if you recently bought The Last of Us, it's probably included (GOTY editions and all). Anyway, if you haven't played it, you definitely should. Not only because it's excellent, but you should also play it based on the game reveal at E3 this year. It will give you more insight into the Ellie character that looks like is getting more exploration in Last of Us 2.

Yeah the DLC is free with the remastered PS4 version that I have. (It's the but where she realises she's into girls in the flashbacks right?)

It's quite simply the most mind blowing game I've ever played.

Certain items the enemies drop as loot and other items you can buy/make (like coffee, I think) restore your SP. Persona 5 is challenging, but not hair-pullingly so. SP is the most difficult thing to manage, but you just have to go through the dungeons sensibly. When you get to a safe room and you're out of SP, exit the dungeon and go back in another day.

The ending left me numb (in a good way). I can't remember another game leaving things in that manner. It indeed was a fantastic game, definitely deserving the hype.

And yeah, first thing I did after the credits rolled was watch the trailers for 2. Good to know Naughty Dog are doubling down on the whole 'all of our heroes are psychopathic serial killers' thing :)

Speaking of Naughty Dog how is Uncharted? Worth playing? Thought I saw the first three going cheap somewhere recently...

Get them! Although I'd say skip the first one and go straight for 2 - it's awesome. I really enjoyed 3 as well. The first one has dated very poorly and is very clunky by the standards of the others. Watch a video recap of the story instead. 4 and Lost Legacy are awesome, too.

Killed the Overmind. After a last-ditch sneaky win on Shakuras having run out of resources, killing the Overmind on Char was a cakewalk. The UED and Zerg were well entrenched, but they gave me plenty of time to tech up and expand before their attacks got serious, so it was always just a matter of grinding their defenses down. It also helps that this map had way more resources.

Only 3 missions to go (including the secret one)

Was up til 4 AM last night. Replayed my initial attack probably like 30 times.

BUT:

I'm on "Omega", and already got the " you've defeated us this time, Kerrigan, but your time of reckoning will come" dialogue from both Artanis and Mengsk. Only the UED left now, and with the me now having access to another half a map with 4 uvailable resource nodes, i'm feeling pretty confident.
