Also make sure to play The Metal Age, it's fucking fantastic and even better than TDP.

Hoping to finish my first play through of KoA: Reckoning this week just in time to pick up Star Wars: The Old Republic :smoke: when it is (finally) released in Australia.

Oh, i've been playing a bit of the Elemental: Fallen Enchantress Beta too. It is shaping up to be at least 100% better than the first one! :)

I've decided now that I have bit more time (sometimes) to go back to the beginning and replay all my games on all my consoles (in release date order, of course, it's only fair). So starting with the Dreamcast (all hail the great Dreamcast), and moving on to Gamecube (through the Wii), Xbox, Xbox 360, and Wii. I've never owned any Playstation console, partly because I hold a grudge against it for slaughtering the Dreamcast, and partly because I can't stand the controller (and they never bloody change it).

So game no.1 on the list was: Blue Stinger.

From the mists of 1999, an action-adventure game with very mild bits of survival horror, it's awful. By which I mean, awfully good. The dialogue is cheesy beyond words, the combination of monsters and Christmas jingles is genius (the game is set around Christmas Day), and the exploration involving finding the correct items and key cards is wholly unoriginal but still fun, engaging, and lengthy. It's a game that makes me want to replay it straight away for reasons which are completely unexplainable :p

Game no.2:

Incoming.

An arcade shooter where you have to complete land (turret and tank) and air missions involving fending off an alien invasion. This game has really NOT stood the test of time, and if it was probably okay-ish back in 1999, it's now downright bad. Unresponsive controls make for very cheap deaths, missions are as dull as ditchwater, and the landscapes are all various shades of undulating and undetailed brown. In a way it's funny to think that this game was set as an early benchmark of the Dreamcast's graphical power. But having said that, you can actually still see why in some parts (such as a particular mission where you have to defend the very good-looking space shuttles, or the completely-unashamedly-ripped-from-Stargate final missions where you go to the alien homeworld). However, this doesn't save the game from the fact that the actual gameplay is pretty rubbish.

Game no.3:

Power Stone.


This is still a very fun fighting game, especially with friends. Using anything and everything in the environment to beat your opponent with is always fun, and the powerup special moves still look good and are quite inventive (one my favourites probably being Gunrock's ability to, erm, turn into a gigantic rock and roll around crushing everything). The game is completely mad and frantic, just how someone like me, who has no particular skill at fighting games, likes fighters to be.


That's it for now, as I'm away for work, so no more games for me for the next month :p

The original Elemental was intended to be the noughties version of Master of Magic. If thet are changing this in Fallen Enchantress is not clear to me as I haven't yet logged in. Something with ME3 and an all (campaign) achievements attempt at Napoleon Total War in an effort to finally get value for money from my massive catalogue of unfinished/ unplayed Steam games.

A bit like Heroes of Might and Magic, but not really? Age of Wonders is the only thing I've played that's really similar. Also a fantastic series.

My buddy has a broken leg so I've been keeping him company over the Easter holiday, we've played:

Starcraft 2: Strange story. You can tell that it is the opening piece of a story turned into a trilogy. None of us are particularly into RTS games any longer but it was fun playing a new SC game. Our strategies haven't changed over the passing decade. Mass produce an army far bigger than is actually needed, plow through everything, ???, Profit. I didn't like the ending, it didn't wrap up the question of Kerrigans role in the prophecy. Liked the bad guys though, they're really menacing.

Duke Nukem Forever: This game was actually a lot better than I was led to believe. No, it's not innovative or clever, but it's not bad either. It's just really old gameplay ideas combined with a stupid story. We both thoroughly enjoyed the lowbrow humor and homages to Dukedom. I hope the money earned on the game allows Gearbox to make a modern (or true old school) Duke Nukem game. This game is well worth the 10 euros or what ever they are selling it for now a days.

Homefront: This game is basically Call of Duty but with a different setting. We both liked it despite its flaws and criminally short campaign. I think we finished it in 4 hours and considering the painfully long waits for NPCs to move their ass in between action scenes that is pretty lousy. Your sprint is ridiculously slow which is really annoying when you're trying to get anywhere and the wait for NPCs to trigger the next sequence is frustrating. But the gameplay it self and the story is really good. Even though the story feels really hammy and the idea of North Korea just being allowed to plow across Asia and into the US seems like a bit of a stretch. This game has some very disturbing scenes (mass graves, public executions, torture) that manages to get both of us involved in the story. I am excited to see what Crysis does with a sequel.

Right now we're playing the first F.E.A.R. game. This is a really good shooter. Surprisingly so. It puts Homefront completely to shame in it's fire fight design and the feel of the combat. Guns buck and paint dark rooms in light. Debris and ricochets are everywhere when bullets hit walls and obstacles. the view is obscured by gun smoke. When you shoot a guy in the leg he limps and tries to stumble out of the gun fight. Bullet impacts splatter the walls with blood and it has that Half Life feel to it that I miss when ever I play other shooters. This shit is gooood. Also it is spooky as fuck. The game is old enough that the cutscenes and detail makes the horror stuff seem goofy but man, the atmosphere and the supernatural events. Oh my. I am glad we are two people playing this game.

Aye Apt, the story in Homefront was odd and unbelievable, but they really did some things (like the mass graves in the baseball fields) that other shooters wouldn't do. Also I was at turns very frustrated and very loving of the robot tank thingy you rolled around with.

The Multiplayer is pretty trash-tastic though...

I'm really enjoying puzzle adventure games at the moment.

Just played Drawn: Painted Tower. It was really quite cute.



Now I need to find another adventure game to play.

I really enjoyed SCII and the way the story is shaping up, and I quite liked the ending. I thought her place in the prophecy was fairly obvious?

I'd heard it was quite a bit of fun. A few of the complaints seem to be that it spends a lot of time making fun of newer shooters and their characters, but brings over some of their more annoying adaptations, like limited weapons. I love the Ego meter idea though, so perfect for Duke :p

Man FEAR rocked. I loved it. So much fun to play. And I'd keep save points before big fights so I could go back and do them again later, as they were a lot of fun. I love the HV Penetrator :p (yes, even though it is called that, it is awesome). Oh, and the cannon and laser rifle are also fantastic.
Yeah, atmosphere was great, and it scared me plenty when I went through it (heck, scared my girlfriend who just watched me play it :p)

At the moment I am playing through Alice: Madness Returns. It is simultaneously great and dissapointing. I loved the first game and there are many things they've done really well this time around. The combat is a lot of fun and player skill can shine through quite a bit. I love the art style, and outfits and world concept and character designs and stuff.
But there is a really huge proliferation of invisible walls and they just kinda went straight overboard with some of the design. There are a few bits that SHOULD have been more impressive. Big swirling vortex's of insanity. But there is random shit floating around the place and things are detatched from the world right off the bat, so it just doesn't have the same impact. Kinda feels like each area was designed by different people who were told to just go straight for the most ridiculous they could. Instead of working up to memorable points and increasing awesomeness as it goes. And someone needed to remind them of how effective a bit of subtlety can be ;)
Also EA's hand is definitely detectable in the game, which is always bad.
Oh, and the cat no longer talks in rhyme, and him/that was one of the best things about the original :p
Still, overall I'm enjoying it so far. Was just hoping for more.

Have been playing a reasonable amount of the Dota 2 Beta as well. I'm enjoying that, but that is in big part because I'm mostly playing it with friends from back home. The same ones I used to have a blast playing DOTA with :p

Had an awesome full campaign of Left 4 Dead 2 last night as well. VS match, really even, with us coming from behind to win in the last chapter. Survivors were getting right fucked up every round. Was fantastic and intense :p
