Turned HZD back on.

I think I may join you. I was listening to the music from the intro and 'The Proving' in the car yesterday and realised I was missing it. Glad to hear there's dlc on the way.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I just posted the demo for Unravel and feel in love with it so I bought the full game. Stunning visuals and just heart warming. :(

I couldn't get into it. The controls frustrated me to no end.

Uncharted 4.

Ok, last night I found out I can set the game to let me hold down the triangle button instead of mashing it, and I can have the game snap to an enemy when I aim down sites. I feel bad for using them, but they let me really experience so much stuff, instead of trying to line up shots and stuff.

Hmm, I guess I can see that, there have been a few points I've played where I have become hopelessly stuck. But it is such a beautiful and sweet game I can overlook that.

I never had trouble with the controls. Those damn crows though...!

Really nice little game, thought I'd nearly finished but found another room with a few more levels.

Finally got Salt and Sanctuary.

I was looking for an interesting 2d game and I've had this on the radar for a while.

Impressed so far, love the look, and although the similarities to Souls are obvious, I didn't realise it would have factions/creeds like the covenants, different classes and such a ton of rings and weapons. Cool skill tree too.

I've been tempted by that, too. Might get it as it's in the Steam sale.

Go for it, it will be interesting to compare notes. I started as a knight, but after seeing the skill tree (I tend to have light armor/rogue) I restarted as a thief.

Which is so far quite different, got some good knife moves from the start.

Finished The Saboteur a couple days ago. This was a very fun replay of the game. It turned out to hold up surprisingly well. Makes me even more so disappointed that the game wasn't a success and EA closed Pandemic Games.

I remain convinced that if they'd made a sequel, this would have been a series that rivalled Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise.

Been playing a handful of the games I bought during the Steam Sale yesterday.

Played a bit of Hyper Light Drifter but put it aside for now, I'm not in the mood for the game. What I did play though was very beautiful and atmospheric. Lots of foreboding symbolic imagery in pixel form.

Started up Plantera and I've had it running in the background ever since. It's a great looking idle game about planting things and harvesting stuff for money that you then buy more stuff for. It's a straight forward idle game and I kind of love it for that. Probably going to have it running for the next couple of days as the game goes through it's achievements.

Tried out Dead Effect 2 and recoiled in horror. I knew this was a low budget FPS games but I wasn't expecting it to be that bad. It's like the worst jank you see in Steam's Early Access program. Terrible art assets, terrible writing, laughable voice work, 90s FPS design. The only reason why it was actually on my Wishlist was because of the drama surrounding the game after the developer threatened to blacklist critics that wrote negative press about the game. In retrospect it's a bit funny since the game was clearly shit and the developer knew it.

Started up Milkmaid of the Milkyway and actually finished it in 2 hours. Milkmaid is a great looking point and click adventure game with 2D pixel artwork. It's not one of those tedious and logic defying point and clicks. It has a fun but simple story and it looks great. Well worth the money I think.

Played 30 minutes of The Flame in The Flood and didn't like it. It's a shame. I looked forward to the game before its release, but it turned out to just be a clever take on the survival and crafting game genre, instead of the atmosphere adventure game I had been hoping for. It looks phenomenal and the music is perfect but there's just no real hook in the game for me. I need an end goal or a story to push me forward. Just playing for the sake of playing doesn't really work for me.

Finally I played a bit of Clustertruck. This game is fun. Dumb and crazy but fun. You just jump from truck to truck and that's it but damn if it isn't entertaining. Can't play it for more than 15 minutes at a time though. It drives me mad.

I played through What Remains of Edith Finch yesterday. That was a lovely, weird and dark little game. Well worth the time if you like games like Gone Home and Firewatch.

I've been meaning to try out Edith Finch but at my current budget I can't justify the euros to game time ratio.

I've been playing some Bombshell the past few days. At 90% off I couldn't help myself buying it during the Steam sale.

It's not a good game but I can't stop playing. Bombshell was originally meant to be a duke nukem top down shooter and it shows. The enemies are reminiscient of Duke, the pick ups and abilities are familiar and the humor/story is straight out of Dukes repertoire.

There's this B-movie charm to the game where it's so bad it's not good but just sort of okay. It's the kind of game that's okay to play with a podcast in the background and your brain switched off.

I find myself actually liking the Bombshell character. Shame she's not featured in a better game.

I've currently got eight games from the Steam sale sitting in my cart but I don't know if I'll buy any of them. I had a radical idea that I should maybe play some of the games I bought in previous sales and have never even downloaded :( So last night I was playing Transistor. What a lovely, effortlessly stylish game.

Transistor is one of my favourites. The music, the visuals, I loved everything. Remember to experiment with the abilities to get all of the story!

Yeah, I was having some fun with the abilities last night, testing them out as actives and passives etc, and reading the character bios. I've only got seven or eight so far, and not enough memory to equip them all as yet.

The music's great. I did the first speed run which opened up the record deck and sat there listening to the first song, thinking I should get the soundtrack whilst it's in the Steam sale . . .

Finished off a few bosses in Salt and Sanctuary now. The 2d has it's limitations but they've captured the souls atmosphere well. I had quite a long boss run to one though, and I was getting frustrated until I realised there was another sanctuary situated about a screen away on the other side.. durr.

I like the sanctuary system - it's like finding a bonfire but you get to sanctify it to whatever covanent you joined, and add npcs that you find around the map.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

^^ I'm torn between that, Hollow Knight, and Ori and the Blind Forest. I've watched reviews and gameplay vids for all three and have them sitting in my Steam cart but can't make up my mind Posted Image

Last night I played a bit more Transistor, and also a bit of Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander, which is great fun.

I'm actually playing Hollow Knight right now.

I'm not quite sure what I'd pick over the other yet, I need to play more of the game. But they do seem to be very similar in design.

Hollow Knight seems to be unfolding slowly and it seems to have a Souls-like approach to gathering currency, where you lose all you progress if you fail to collect the currency you drop upon death.

It is however extremely pretty, the animations are fantastic and the whole game oozes with melancholy atmosphere.

Same thing can be said about Ori and the Blind Forest actually. Ori was a very beautiful and full of sorrow. The one criticism I could level at Ori though, was the difficulty. Ori uses souls-like ressources to generate check points and depending upon the obstacles the game can really fuck you over. I remember there being these escape sequences that would drive me absolutely nuts.

Honestly I think both games seem great. If I had to chose right now I'd probably pick Ori, since it's just a very beautiful game.

Cheers for the info. Yeah, they all seem very similar, which is probably why I'm stalling - do I really want three, or even two, such similar games? I love Metroid etc, so yeah, probably :( If they were all under £5 I wouldn't hesitate.

I've also got Firewatch and Hyper Light Drifter in the cart, which are definite purchases.
