My first race was the Great Old ones, with a long lifespan and intuitive understanding of physics, but with slow breeding and a preference towards solitude. Deeply spiritual and xenophobic, they worship their star Azatoth, and will enslave or genocide the entire universe given the chance.

It's pretty awesome.

I too have fallen into the Stellaris trap...and it is awesome! I'm still learning the chops though, because for some reason I had a MASSIVE fleet with over 10k firepower be ripped to pieces by a fleet not even half that strong. So I must be doing something wrong.

I don't mind the combat being difficult, that's cool, I just have to figure it out.

I especially love the exploration and colonization aspect of the game. Though I'm a bit miffed that the tech research options seem random. I don't like that I can't direct it more in the direction I want.

That's funny, because I don't really have any problems with the crystal entities. I suspect there is some form of "golden mean" with regards to equipping ships with the various options. I've only had problem with other races fleets, never the "critters".

My first game of Stellaris: the Claw Collective (a despotic empire of space cats from the planet Furball) lasted 150 years before an empire of space parrots decided to declare war on it and promptly annihilated the Claw fleet and attacked my home system. I've never liked parrots.

I met a pacifist collective of tiny rodents. They had to be pacified for the good of the galaxy. The last remnants of their once substansial culture now lives as slaves on a barren planet far far from their home system.

I look forwards to the inclusion of many more ways to be evil.

I settled a planet. Turns out there was a whole civilization of....something....living deep underground in caves and tunnels. They started to dig themselves up to the surface. I nuked and gassed them to extinction. It was the only way to be sure.

I imagine the optimal way to play this game is something like indicidualist/materialist or something along those lines, being all researchy, but being an evil overlord is so much more fun. Especially as the diplomacy options right now are a little lackluster.

Maybe I should try out the Empire of Man to burn some heretics. Militaristic/Xenophobic/Spiritualist maybe.

yes, yes, I've considered that aswell. However, some of the war options just doesn't support this. I met this other culture with my militaristic human alliance. So obviously I wanted to purge the galaxy of their filth. But no, the game wouldn't let me do that.

In any case, shall we attempt some multiplayer at some point?

I wouldn't be opposed to that, let's give it a couple of weeks though, so that paradox can iron out the mp issues that are surely present right now.

Incidentally, I settled a planet yesterday which got a stagnant AI empire really up in arms. Turns out it was their original homeworld and they were deeply spiritual. So they attacked and crushed my fleet, absolutely massacred it.

Seeing that I was (weirdly) not popular amongst my neighbours, they all took the opportunity to declare war too, and that was that. So, onto something different. I'm thinking ants. Fanatical collectivist, militaristic ants.

You know, if I'd say this game needs one thing it's Europa Universalis style trade. Return to the trade system of EU3, have each settled planet inherently produce one kind of tradeable good (in addition to whatever fancy stuff turns up in tech), you know, like wine, olives, wheat, tea and so on. It would provide additional incentives to being all diplomatic like, and provide some additional diplomacy options in form of open trade routes etc. Not to mention a fourth build focus in addition to energy/production/science.

It's a game you should probably buy in two years when most of expansions and patches have properly fleshed out the content.

Stellaris for me as well. My first game I got punished very early for not keeping a large enough fleet with rivals nearby. Eeek.

On a good run now. Fun game.

I just absolutely trounced the United Hadadeshi Colonies, some other weird species. Technically, they were my equal in fleet power, but I used a surprise attack and destroyed their main fleet before they could consolidate.

It was totally a preemptive strike, they were absolutely going to attack me....seriously.

I haven't had this much fun with a space RTS since....We might have to go back to the nineties. Posted Image
