Anomander Rake is brilliant. Kruppe is an excellent character too. In spite of his ridiculous character he is surprisingly effective. Quick Ben is pretty cool too.

I don't truly have one in particular but Delat, Cotillion and Anomander Rake were my favourites.

Dassem Ultor (Obvious Reasons)

And most likely if you don't count him then Anomander Rake for his raw power

Kruppe! Not only was he really funny, but you always wondered what he's all about. Oh, and the dreams he experienced were so wonderfully written!

Wow, kinda tough going back to GotM and trying to remember who I liked the most in that...I'd go with Tool and Raest actually. Just such badasses in this book.
So, you're the historian who survived the Chain of Dogs.
Actually, I didn't.

It seems you stand alone.
It was ever thus.

I love Paran's exchanges with Topper.

Tool is awesome all around.

Call me a fanboy, but Rake gets my vote for this book. He starts it as a mysteriously badass character, but throughout the book he becomes even more awesome. His talks with Baruk are very insightful, backing up Rallick at the Fete was just plain hilarious, and his talk with K'rul atop the belfry left me at a loss for words.

"Are you rewarded in spirit for your efforts?"

"Sometimes," Rake said quietly. "But mostly, no, I am not."

The hooded face turned to the Tiste Andii. "Then why?"

"I know no other way of living."

And then he turns into a fucking dragon. Mind-blowingly awesome.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

I'd have to go with Kruppe. It takes far more time and effort to write a 'Fool' than it does any other character; and when it is done properly, they can blow every other player out of the water.

My fav is Kruppe, and not only for his hilarious deceptive character, but also for his interactions with his merry friends of Phoenix Inn (Rallick, Murillio, Coll, Crokus). And as The Eel, his welfare retirement plan for Code Breaker is heart warming.

Kruppe is very ridiculous, but also very good to his friends and those who help him, yes.
Laseen did nothing wrong.

I demand Telorast & Curdle plushies.

Tattersail, for sure. She reminds me of someone else, but I can't figure out who just yet.

I loved Fiddler, Kalam, Quick Ben, Tool, Lorn... I also did go 'aww' when I read the letter of retirement for Circle Breaker.

For me it was Kruppe. I immediately fell in love with him. Tattersail a close second.

Kruppe really grew on me quickly after a difficult start, but once I understood the nature of him I found myself riveted by every scene he appears in. The only thing that holds me in reserve is his involvement in events at the party; the reactions of Rallick and especially Murillio were a quite a wake-up call, so I was a little troubled when I remembered that Kruppe participated in all that stuff.

I also like Tattersail quite a bit, too. I was very troubled by the turn her story takes in the second half of Gardens.

I was left feeling very curious about Fiddler, particularly when I realized the scope of game he plays with his squad mates.

Actually, to be honest there was hardly any character I didn't like, just characters that I didn't learn enough about (and I can't justify complaining about it since there's only so much room in the book for so many characters).

hi there, newbie here,

as my username obviously suggests, mine would have to be the Son of Darkness,

followed by ganoes paran and crokus younghand

Wow. As often said, it's almost impossible for me to choose a 'favorite' from such a great list.

As far as Gardens of the Moon, though, I'd have to say Ganoes or Rake. Kalam and Quick Ben would be a close second, but I think the better parts of their stories come later. So as of Gardens, many of the Bridgeburners still have a ways to go. So I think GANOES and Rake were the best as of the first story.

An honorable mention to Hairlock for great originality . Tattersail was very lovable and a complete BADASS, but died to quickly. Lorn to me was 'myeh'. I've heard a lot of people who LOVE the character, but I found her a bit bland. And I believe this was as intended. There was of course great development in the short time, and layers underneath, but I can't rank Lorn above the others. The Darj Crew are all on the same level IMO: Kruppe, Murillo, Rallick, etc. Well Kruppe a bit higher. And Kruppe actually becomes one of the top characters that I love in later books.
So to reiterate, I say Rake and GANOES. Oh I almost forgot about Sorry. Well she also needs time. Give her a book or two.

you're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be...

well, no contest here, of course for me, its Anomander Rake,
followed by some distance by Ganoes Paran & Crokus Younghand
for some reason i always picture Rallick Nom from that cover in the Night Angel Trilogy of Brent Weeks, weird,

sorry, my bad,
