Hypothetically then, Stone Monkey, you would renounce it all?

I have actually thought about this, and I think I would. I'd like to think I'm self aware enough to see the trappings and implications of royalty for what they are. ...

Or one could try to do something midly useful with it all. Say what one will good or bad about Diana, she did do some good on the anti-landmines cause.

I don't expect royals to pitch it all and live in mediocrity with the rest of the proletariat, but seeing as how they need not fear revolution, uprisings, foreign invasion, poisoning, assassination and/or the plague, they really, really have zero excuse for not doing a fuck of a lot to make the planet, or at least Britain, a better place.

I have faith that at least Harry will do his part by raising the self-image of the many many barmaids around the world who feel un-special.

On a Canadian note, our Govenor General position is a waste of money.

Apparently Charles is the Kingpin of UK Charity. He just lacks the cane. And the shoulders. And the pinstripe suit.

Ok, maybe not 'anything'...

Anyhow, when you have the SAS, who needs hands?

@Abyss - do you mean like getting a job with the helicopter rescue team in a small town in Wales? That kind of thing?

I mean actually doing something useful and helpful as opposed to sitting around sipping champers, munching crumpets and taking money baths.

- Abyss, wishes to point out that "munching crumpets" is not a double entendre, although clotted cream" always sounds rather dirty.

But...but money is FILTHY! Think of how many hands it has passed through, not once being washed! Though I suppose the royals could get servants to bathe the money before they themselves bathe in it...

No, you see, they get the privilege of bathing in all the newly-printed currency. So YOU get to handle THEIR filthy cash later, not the other way around.
