this will be a must/no-brainer for me on glorious BluRay when the set comes out and I plunk down the hard clinky for it.

I thought the last episode was great. But I have to admit that I was kinda let down by the "King in the North" scene. In the book it was, to me at least, this grand turning point brought on by the execution of Ned (which was done flawlessly) But here, in the series, it kinda seemed more random than momentous to me...
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Better start saving now, for how high HBO's MSRP typically is.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

HBO usually leaves the last season of a series on on-demand until the next season starts.

Yep, no problems on that one. I bought the BBC Doctor Who sets back when they were imports and cost $125 /set LOL

I won't mind spending the coin on the GOT set.

One thing I sort of noticed last night that I'm seeing a lot of today online... There weren't very many shots to establish just how thoroughly the khalasar abandoned Dany. A lot of people who haven't read the books seem to think here little schpeal about people staying with her and being her new khalasar before she walks into the pyre means she has an awesome new army ready to march with her and her dragons - I think a lot of people realize a.) it's a bare fraction of a fraction left and b.) it's mostly elderly, infirmed, and disabled Dothraki.

that seems strange to me. the very first establishing shot of Dany's, on the top of that cliff, there were only like four tents, and two minutes later Dany says the khalasar is gone, which you can clearly see, because there is less than a half-dozen tents still there.

Best line ever from Tyrion:

"My father is probably the most powerful man in the country, certainly the richest. He has all seven kingdoms in his pockets. Everyone, everywhere always has to do what my father says...

He's always been a c**t."

made me lol lol lol.

Me too.

Also the king in the north thing didn't do it for me. It needed more oomph, like Khal Drogo doing his 'I'm gonna fuck up the Seven Kingdoms' dance thingy.

I've got no complaints with that episode whatsoever, I thought it was fantastic. Started off quite emotional with the aftermath of the execution, then built to a real crescendo at the end. I read the interview with the producers where they said there was some book two stuff in this episode, so I even liked those bits (even the Pycelle scene ... ). Had to re-watch the final scene several times cos it was so awesome, almost exactly as I imagined it. The only downer was a lack of Bronn. Damn, one complaint then.

Personally end of ep 9 should of been a cliffhanger. Then kill Ned in ep10 straight away and do all the other things.

What was the point of the Maester Pycelle/Roz scene?

Setting everyone up for Tyrion figuring out that Pycelle has an agenda. This way we'll get an episode or 3 of Tyrion playing mental chess with the small council. I liked it; it made Pycelle a little more ominous.

Huh, weird. Actually my gf and her sister (non-boook readers) saw that the first thing when Dany steps out of the tent. My gf sister goes "Whoa, everyone left her", and then Ian Glenn has his line about a Khalisaar without a Khal is no Khalisaar.

Does it look like Jorah is wounded? In the book he was, so Dany had to deal with Losing her son, Drogo, and Jorah . . . no pressure!

Yeah they scaled his wound way back to just a scratch. I really don't think it had any kind of detrimental effect though, it certainly didn't look like Dany was tiptoeing through the tulips.

I thought it worked, in particular because, as in the book, Robb is basically propelled into a situation beyond anything he wanted and because he's like 16, he can't resist. Remember they start that scene arguing over whether to join up with Stannis or Renly.

I don't think it worked. Pycelle babbling looked exactly like Pycelle babbling and his kneebends and whatever didn't do much to convey a strikingly brilliant manipulator, as opposed to an old dude who just started his day sheboinging a ho' and has a little more spring in his step.

Yah, there was enough going on there that there was no need to add Jorah being in jeapordy. I thought the scene worked well in that he COULD have stopped her but she convinced him not to.

Season finale ratings were predictably the season high, though they didn't quite get to Boardwalk Empire levels. I imagine, though, that DVD sales for season 1 of GoT will blow Boardwalk Empire DVD sales through the roof.

Relatedly, I really did not enjoy Boardwalk Empire, like, at all. There's absolutely no reason why I shouldn't have because it has just about everything I want in a TV show but about halfway through, I stopped tricking myself into thinking I loved it.

This is a thing with HBO series'... they are different and original and SO very well done that on some level one can feel almost obliged to think it's awesome, which is really not always the case.

I felt this way with TREME... tried, but it just didn't catch me, despite the sheer novelty of the setting.

Obviously i'm neck deep into GoT but i was a fan of the books so more or less pre-destined. It will be interesting to see how much audience retention the second season has.

Tho the interchange between the books and tv series means that even if some audience is lost, there will be others who are drawn back because the series sent them to the books to find out what happens next.

Y'know... if that turns out to be a factor, HBO and other networks are going to spend a whole lot more time looking to fantasy series for source material...

- Abyss, notes we'll all just fervently pretend that Sword of Truth/The Seeker series never happened...

This is very true. I feel the same about Treme now, though the first season really gripped me for a while, more because of the acting and characterization than anything else. Plus I'm a bit of a David Simon fanboy. My beef with the show was that it got exhausting after a while when nearly every single scene had a "THIS CITY WILL RISE AGAIN" subtext. I understand that it's meant to be a detailed and total immersion into a unique setting, but in the Wire I never felt like I was getting clubbed over the head with "THIS.. IS.. BALTIMORE!!!" in every single fucking scene.
