Administrative Announcement: Hey guys, as you may be aware we have been experiencing some downtime lately - this is partly due to resource usage on our server. The actual cause is an underlying one, however until we get that resolved I would remind you that animated .gifs use more resources than regular images, and that these should be kept to a minimum. Please reduce the number of animated .gif images being posted in this thread. Thank you.



Administrative Addendum: Anyone Neg-Repping this post for lack of a picture or in fact any other reason WILL be banned for an indefinite period of time. You have been warned.

EDIT For Administrative Clarity: This will henceforth be a permanent state of affairs. Red Text from an Admin = Exempt from the "No posts without pics clause", with retribution being a swift and indefinite ban hammering. I can't believe I have to spell this out for you all.

Out of curiosity, does that include gifs that are hosted elsewhere and just posted here?

It does, yes. Because what you are doing is called "hotlinking" and is generally frowned upon because it leeches the *other* site's resources, unless that site is a dedicated image hosting site. This is to be avoided. It also does, I think, put a tad more strain on our resources than regular images; just not as much as if we are hosting and serving the image ourselves.

I'm not sure what you mean - they both state the ban may be indefinite. If you mean edit it to state that this is a permanent state of affairs, sure. Though really everyone should read ALL my posts carefully and with great respect in mind, at all times.

It vexes me that it so hard to find a pic to put in this thread purely because at least 70% of my funny/awesome/weird pictures folder comes from this thread... :S

Shit. Sorry. How all this "internet" stuff and "server" "resource usage" works is more magical to me than warrens or weaves so I'll just take this as "no more gifs" or at least "gif occasionally."
