His real name is Quack Ben and he's a soletaken duck. Or a doctor. Or a ducktor.

He's talking to Mother and Father Goose.

@ Cussers - do you have a quote that his sister calls him by his full name? We've discussed that incident before, and I think we all thought she called him "Ben" , "Ben Delat" and "sneaky fucker"

Quote

For
the crimes committed by children, all fugue eventually faded, as
concern rose in its stead. For most children, normal children; but
not for Ben Adaephon Delat, who had gone too far. Again.

Quote

Perhaps,
she now thought as she trailed Bridthok and the train of his
flapping, threadbare robes, perhaps in the interval of those few
years, Adaephon Delat had remembered what it was he had forgotten.
Perhaps it was nothing more than what a corpse still striding the
mortal world could not help but forget.
How to live.

She's not using the name in quotes but she is thinking it.
No one steals from me. Not even a fish!

I dunno, sounds like a bit of quackery to me.

Don't know if it has been mentioned before, but is it possible that in MOI, when Quick tells Rake not to "quest in his direction" or whatever, it was due to the fact that Rake might recognise the Tiste Andii soul inside him personally, rather than recognise him (QB) as such?? Especially if that soul was in fact a close relation and Quick thought that Rake might still be pissed off with Draconus (most likely the father??).

If that were the case, it would seem to lean toward the view that he could change perspective, and the Andii soul inside him was the one talking to MD.

There's more than a good chance that anyone that Rudd recognised by name, Rake would also recognise (especially as he had spent an unidentified amount of time chilling out in an Azath while Rake was rocking around). Always thought there was more to this part than was obvious.

Well the point they are making is that whatever name Rudd recognized, Quick Ben apparently had (and was called by family members like his sister) when he was a child long before the Raraku incident.

My guess is that Quick Ben's lineage is special, that the name Adaephon has an ancient meaning, and it's not merely the souls he picked up along the way that make him so formidable (which doesn't discount that they might be special or powerful too). But there's a reason he was the survivor, as well as the one chosen to contain the other mage's souls, and to even be capable of such a thing one probably has to be of some power already. Which doesn't mean he's not a (mostly) human being who was a mischievous whippersnapper fairly recently and has grown into a wily, deceptive adult. If I had to make a truly wild guess, it would be that he's a descendant of the Edur royal line, one that went into hiding and was never stamped out by Scabandari.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Is there consensus on QB as a shield anvil? He is holding multiple souls after all.might make him shield anvil of shadow, or dark even. Maybe he was SA of shadow and defected to dark, which is why ST is annoyed.

Is this entirely nestessary? You're really making great tits of yourselves.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

Then Quick says that hes not all that well informed, because Shadowthrone is pissed about "a past slight" but Quick can't remember what slight it was. He seems to be telling the truth, and if it was the mortal Quick Ben, he would of course remember the various reasons ST would be pissed.

That title was a spoiler~Bubba

I really don't believe QB cannot remember. He says that to Paran, but he's being disingenuous. He forgot he used to be a High Priest of Shadow? And burned his raiment? He does have a history of hiding his past, after all.

Below quotes are from GotM.

Quote

Quick Ben stopped before the dais. He bowed. 'I was once an acolyte within your temple, Lord.'

The god was silent for a time, then he said, 'Is it wise to admit such a thing, Wizard? Do I look kindly upon those who once served me but then abandoned my ways? Tell me. I would hear from you what my priests teach.'

'To begin upon the Path of Shadow and then to leave it is rewarded by the Rope.'

'Meaning?'

'I am marked for assassination by all who follow your ways, Lord.'

'Yet here you stand, Wizard.'

Quick Ben bowed again. 'I would strike a deal, Lord.'

Then, later to Kalam:

Quote

'He realized who I was just as I left.' Quick Ben's grin broadened. 'You should have heard him scream.'

'Well, are you surprised? How many High Priests burn the robes of their vestment?'

i don't think it's the same thing. i think that when he takes the souls of the mages into his body, QB is using the same ritual as the one he used to move hairlock into the puppet. not the same thing as the embrace of pain that goes on with a SA. also, ST doesn't seem like one to choose a SA, and a SA needs a god at his back to take the weight of the souls. itkovian remarks on this in MoI, and others. a SA cleanses a soul of the pain of it's life and death, QB gave those souls a way to keep living.

And yet there's that quote from the CG at the end of...tCG...where he mentions something about forgetting his past upon ascension. Probably should have the book on hand before I post, so I'm winging it.

But the implication there and elsewhere is that ascending tends to make one forget about what it was like to be a regular mortal.

So Shadowthrone forget about QB, is the logic I assume you're ending with here. Which doesn't work, for obvious reasons. Or are you saying that QB ascended, which shouldn't work for obvious reasons too.
