I thought Black Swan was overated. Not subtle at all. Left the cinema and didn't think about it again at all, a sign of a not good film.

Although, that's not fair, Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman scene, well how could you not think of that. Another little tidbit for you there Gothos, even if they are both a bit skinny in that film.

I did see it, Cyphon88. It had two scenes I liked (Mila on Natalie action, and the Black Swan in the ballet, I thought it was very well put together).

Things I don't like:

Dogfights in space (BSG is the only time I've seen this done right)
Facemasks (aha! I am not who you think I am! Nor am I!)
Bad guys who aren't quite evil enough

In defense of this, they are informed early on that the haunting is not a ghost but a demon and the demon is not haunting the house, but the girl....so she knows leaving will not do a damned thing. Which is why I find it so scary actually. You can't escape something that haunts you as a person.



Go talk to a priest. Stay at a church. Don't do a seance.

First was better then the second.



From a personal standpoint. If this were happening to me. A Priest and church do nothing (and I'd be aware of this)...cause I'm not a believer...nor would I assume demons could be stopped by holy men and charlatans, or stone buildings that house them. I wouldn't do a seance (they didn't in the movies though...not sure where u got that), Basically this is something that if you went to the northernmost town in Finland in the middle of nowhere... it could still get at you. You can't go anywhere or do anything. You're fucked. That's it. Scary.

The chick in the movie and the sister in the second were not religious as much as I could tell, and the first girl looked up that girl from the past who was haunted by a demon and she was in an asylum with lots of other people and orderlies ect...and was even exorcised by a priest..and nada...she still clawed her own face off...

Not that I can change your mind though. :)

I agree the first one was better. :)


Instead I would have put some very strong glue on the door's handle, so next time it opened he would find itself glued...then some dust on him to locate, and then some good beating

I wholeheartedly agree.

While it was decent, and had some good cinematography and score...and Portman's performance was brilliant....I think overall the praise it gets is kind of overblown.

I hate poorly done exposition that causes a movie to screech to a halt. For example, in Tron: Legacy when Kevin explains the isos. Pretty much as soon as Sam reaches Kevin, the movie goes from action-action-action to a stand-around-yammer bore-fest.

But of course the undisputed king of bad exposition is The Phantom Menace. See Qui-Gon's explanation of the midichlorians to Anakin, or Shmi's explanation of Anakin's immaculate conception to Qui-Gon. Admittedly, the entire movie is a string of pointless WTF moments, but those two stand out especially for me.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

That's fine... go watch that scene. Then watch it again. Stop, go get a snack (or whatever), watch that scene 3-4 more times and then move along with your life. Trust me on this. I had to watch the entire thing and by the time that scene came along i was so bored/irritated i couldn't even enjoy it.

I tend to agree - brillinatly shot, decent performances, overall good/great but not awesome.

Not to defend these movies, never watched them, but I know quite a few people that would do exactly that. Have a seance or whatever. Plus you have to figure, if weird shit is happening in your home, sometimes you can't just up and leave. The few houses that I have lived in where wierd shit happened, seriously strange things, my family wasn't able to up and move, we ignored it and went on with our lives.

As for the action movies, I can totally understand the critisms, but they wouldn't be good action movies if they weren't over the top. In Commando, real life, Arnie dies when they attack his house, end of movie. That would suck. lol

Also wanted to add the pointless love interest that has to be in almost every movie. Can't we have a solid 2 hour action movie without some dumb love at first sight moment?

The first 2 really get me. And you're right. BSG is one of the first that I've seen where the ships don't make "bank turns" as an aircraft would. THERE IS NO AIR IN FUCKING SPACE. AERODYNAMIC MANEUVERS MAKE NO FUCKING SENSE. I hate being an engineer sometimes, but seeing Xwing fighters swooping and banking around like WWII dogfighters just clicks on every bullshit alarm in my psyche. Same thing always bugged me in Star trek...the Enterprise wants to swing around and head back home after blowing up some romulans and does this huge douchey bank turn when it could easily just use a thruster to rotate on the spot while still moving and flick on the warp engines.

That's one of the main reasons I loved BSG. They pull real space dogfight maneuvers all the time...blasting toward the cylon raiders with guns a blazing, and when they whip past instead of banking around for another pass, they just thrust around, flying backwards (because of conservation of momentum...duh) and start shooting immediately while moving away from their target, only to ignite the main engine again to halt their backward momentum and take off in the direction of thrust.

Wow...I never realized quite how much I hated that until now. And how much I loved BSG for getting it right.

Facemasks are unbelievably stupid. Like really unbelievably fucktardedly stupid. There's no such fucking thing as a facemask that can make you look so much like another person that you can fool people with it. The one exception is Ackmed, Gary's masked persona in "Team America" which he uses to fool his way into the terrorist cantina. That facemask was awesome.

Here's a new one for ye

Action TV shows that have entire seasons of WTF BORING. Like season 3 of BSG. There were like 1.5 dogfights in that whole season and all the rest was blondie crying over some shit nobody cared about and a bunch of useless humans stranded on a boring barren planet fighting over scraps.

And another new one

Space shows that centre too much on planetside bullshit. We watch space shows for AWESOME SPACESHIPS AND WICKED SPACE SHIT. Not boring interplanetary politics. It's ok to interject the occasional planet-based episode for some balance and general character development, but we're talking less than 5% of a given season. Max. I think Stargate is one of the only hardcore scifi shows I've ever enjoyed that went heavy on the planet-based scenes, and that's only because they made a whole theme of it.
