When I first found the Malazan series a few years ago, most of the books were not out in the US yet. So I ordered them from Amazon UK and eBay. When comparing them to the US versions years later I find that, for the most part, I like the UK editions much better. I find the font easier to read, the pages are thicker and the binding is of higher quality. The US editions have thin flimsy pages, and seem to be almost a trade paperback with a hard cover. I am seriously considering ordering from the UK and paying a higher price plus shipping for what I consider to be a better quality book. As this is something that I will have on my bookshelf for a long time, and will probably reread multiple times, I consider it a worthy expense.
Anyone else thinking of doing this?

US Tor or UK Bantam?

Personally I think the US editions are better put together, but I'll have to go with UK because it comes out first. Every day makes a difference.

My collection is a mis-match of the UK mmpg, tpg and hb. Over the next few years I'll try and get it all to match.

I own all of Esslemont's books in the Bantam editions, either MMPB or TPB, and I can't say I'm a big fan. The paperback cover materials crease and crack at the slightest bend, and the MMPB spines are way too stiff. I haven't had any experience with the Bantam harcovers, though. Stephen R. Donaldson, when asked on his website, once explained that the difference between the UK and US paper types is that the UK paper is actually lower quality, meaning they have to use thicker paper in order to not have the ink bleed through.
I'm kind of curious what you think a trade paperback is besides a hardcover with a cardstock cover.

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

My US TPBs are all nice quality w/ acid-free paper (I think) but the UK version of Stonewielder I got was heavier paper, very nice. However, a hardcover version of DoD I read was flimsy at the bindings and faces future deterioration from repeated use. My advice is get them from amazon.ca, which I have done. Cheaper than shipping from UK and no currency issues.
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

So you're speaking about hardcovers? If that's the case then I don't know since I only have UK hardcovers.
Anyway, you can always order here:
http://www.bookdepos...he-Crippled-God
http://www.bookdepos...he-Crippled-God
The proper link is supposed to be the second, but there's something weird going on on both Amazon and Bookdepository.
For some reason The Crippled God can't be ordered and there's only that Randomhouse USA version that must be mislabeled (the first link is the one that can be purchased and the code corresponds to the proper Transworld hardcover version, so if I think the first link is the one you want if you want the UK hardcover).
That said, UK paperbacks have now the HIDEOUS bigger format, but the canadian version of the same keeps the old one, so one can ideally have a matching set.
And recently Tor is reprinting the mass market paperback to have UK covers. From HoC onward the interior (font, pagination) is exactly the same of UK.
