Just took out Quelaag.

Took about 4 tries though, just needed to get back into the dodge/hit/retreat cycle again. Just used a halberd and grass crest shield. Climbed straight up out of the depths after, I hate that place.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I can't get down parry with shield like at all.

This game is so far easier then BB by far and I'm enjoying it while my skill last. I know the pt where I can't advance further is coming like in BB I couldn't beat Father G.

You don't really need parry, to be fair. If you can time it right it's awesome, but you're probably better off just blocking. I hardly ever use it.

I never could get parrying down well either. It held me back only when fighting online vs other really good game players. For Dark Souls in-game bosses/enemies, it wasn't a key mechanic although it helped.

Work on figuring out distances of strikes (yours and theirs) and where you can be safe when rolling. The rolling and the timing of rolling is crucial.

Woot woot I'm doing fairly good with parry and riposte this last hr! That dagger just drives right into the guts and it looks/feels powerful!

Remember if you get around to the back, it's a super powerful strike as well.

Oh yeah I forgot...what does fast roll mean y'all keep telling me about? Is it game speak or the actual roll you do?

Equipment weight affects how fast you can roll. If you keep your equipment weight (what you're holding/wearing) under about 40% of your total limit, you can roll and jump quickly. If you're overburdened, you just do a clumsy attempt at a roll.

You can raise your equip load with Endurance; and there's a Ring that boosts it too so you can wear heavier stuff and still dash about.

Fast roll (25% or less burden) is recommended. It keeps you very mobile.

I only have 1 character that's not got fast roll and he is missing roll (50% burden)

Disadvantage to fast roll is you tend to have to rely on not getting hit as little defence, you also have little to no poise.

As a general rule of thumb, the higher the weight generally the higher the poise.

Poise is effectively your stagger, higher the poise the more hits you can take before you stagger.

On a side, I am not in anor Londo on my mage, can one shot the giants using great heavy soul arrow. I'm just about to take on the 2 archers which I am dreading.

Parry and riposte (visceral attacks) is the key to Bloodborne too you know . But yeah, it feels incredibly satisfying.

Move on up the stairs into the aqueduct. You will soon come across another bonfire and a merchant nearby. It will also be a better place to level up.

TL;DR - Move onwards.

Yeah, you're only a tiny bit into the game, so you'll be able to get back to where you were in about half an hour or less.

Get that Master Key - the rest of the starter gifts are kinda useless to completely inert.

You seem to like this better than Bloodborne and I do think this game will fit you better in terms of style. It's a lot like an adult Zelda, with less instructions and a whole lot more zombies.

I agree with amph, master key is the only worthwhile gift. You can get access to some areas earlier which can provide access to some pretty good gear.

Wait until he reaches the Taurus Demon. It's the equivalent of the first boss in BB. I think if you can learn to speedrun to him, and beat him, you'll be hooked.

I'm enjoying hearing BK's progress, it reminds me of my first playthrough.

Anyone else looking forward to him meeting Capra?

I did a strenght run with pyromancy and the Black Knight's Sword. The only build with which I crushed the Capra demon on the first try.

I have only beat Capra once first try and I'll admit I cheesed it using firebomb and tossing them over the gate so I didn't have to go through the gate lol.

The character I did it on was a tank too but cba with Capra bs lol.

So far I can say makes are easy as pie, beat all bosses up to o&s first try (except Capra) and now to nail o&s who gave me headaches on my other toons.

Do you find pyros are too op and cheesy? I think the lack of skill investment needed to use makes them op.

No, I don't think so. I found pyromancy to be too, hm, unweildy compared to sorcery and faith. And too limited. It's a great skill, but it never served as more than a supporting ability in my runs. Sorcery though, sorcery can be all you need.

I find pyro can be cheap as with a +5 ascended flame you can great combustion most bosses to death in about 4 hits, I know on my faith/pyro I do no less than 700 damage using it. The only negative I can find is it relies on close range so timing is necessary.
