Ok, I haven't read the ICE books. Am I going to have to read these books to understand anything in "The Crippled God"?

I was just googling for release information and saw on a forum someone talking about events in ICE's books that correlate with some of SE's story line.

I have "Night of Knives" but I haven'tbee n able to get very far in before putting it down for something better.

Well, none of us (except a few lucky people) have actually read TCG yet so we can't really guess what will appear in the tenth book. How ever, so far Erikson has not let anything major in the storytelling hinge on events from ICE's books. It's a series of stories running parallel and small nods to events in the other authors run showing up here and there.

You really should finish NoK. the book gets better and better as you near the conclusion. Temper is one of my favorite characters of the series.

There is no need per se, as you'll understand everything which occurs in TCG if you've read the previous 9 volumes.

Still, they do add another dimension to Erikson's series, as well as mapping out ICE's own story arcs.

If Pat says you won't need to, then I guess you won't. But they're the only way you'll find out what happening with the actual Malazan Empire post-Bonehunters.
