Hello there! Long time lurker first time poster, and all that routine. Not sure if this counts as "proper" art, but it's not stipulated that it has to be a drawing. ^^

So while playing Minecraft, I decided that for my first big building project I would try and recreate a 1:1 in scale of everyone's favorite flying mountain, Moon Spawn. Though I came intro 3 snags while carrying out my plan. 1)I'm not that good at minecraft. 2)the time it would take me to gather all the materials would be close to the time SE took to write all 10 volumes of Book of the Fallen 3)I have no idea of the dimensions of Moon Spawn in the first place, and Very Big doesn't quite sum it up.

So I tried to do a "mini" version of Moon Spawn. And here it is:

Posted Image

The whole thing still took me about two months, though most of that time was clearing zombies and other nasties that kept spawning inside it, took me a lot of time to find out there was an option to turn the critters off. That lil' tower over there is inspired by the GotM cover. I know it's like looking at the real thing! My vision of Moon Spawn is a chunk of a mountain that just started to levitate, and the supposed city is inside the stone. And carving out MP out of a mountain was my first idea, but then I saw the lake and it just look so pretty, that I had to build above it.

I bet that someone with proper Minecraft skills could build something more prettier and with less suck, but oh well you have to start somewhere. ^^ I also plan, when I have the patience and time, to build rooms and the actual city inside of it. Right now is just empty undecorated(Do Andii have a fashion sense?) corridors, that lead to an armoury, a balcony and the tower. There's also a sort of throne room and Dragon's nest, which I would show you, but Imageshack is not being cooperative, I'll fix that later.

So there it is a Minecraftian Moon Spawn.

You should come check out the Malazan Minecraft server. Cerveza Fiesta has built a big floating mountain that dwarfs your Moon.

We've built various large structures mirroring places in the books. Recently a model of Y'Ghatan was finished and set on fire. We have also constructed an Azath with a giant tree on top and a monster trap underneath.

Someone go and take a screenshot of CF's Moon -- i'm too scared too do it myself bein in a deep, dark pit and all. I haven't actually managed to bring myself to log back in since we turned on the monsters, as I know damn well what'll happen to me.

That said, your Moon's Spawn is a very good effort. I'm sure you'll be adding to and improving it as you work out various building techniques and it'll be crazy-awesome.

+Rep for doing it all in smooth stone too, that's commitment!

You guys are in for a treat. I have no MS pics on this computer. Will make a mental note to post them when I get a chance. Very nice version of moon spawn. I did mine in smooth stone too and added a bunch of towers/balconies on the outside. I went for a post-MOI looking one with water pouring out of it everywhere.

Nice to see somebody else making the effort, but Oliviera, why the heck aren't you on the malaz server???

Just PM me and I'll get you the IP.

None of the millions of fanatical reviews and crazy videos have managed to tempt me to play minecraft as much as this one line.

DO IT.

Malaz server is awesome. There's a few book-related things like M.S, malaz isle and Y'gatan (the biggest one) but there is some really creative and cool stuff that's not particularly book related too. MT's ruins and temple come to mind, Morgoth's cathedral, the Apt shrine...all very cool.

A couple of mind-bogglingly huge projects too like D'rek's ocean tower and Green Pig's pit of somethingorother.

Its only 15 euros for the best video game ever basically. Like virtual lego, except with monsters that can kill you.

Yeah...the pit...I dunno how I'm gonna sort that out. I'm gonna have to log in with the rising sun (somehow) and spend the whole (8 minute) day constructing some kind of scaffolding to put torches on (which will take more than 8 minutes to build). As I say, I haven't had the courage to log in yet. I'm sort of re-creating the pit on singleplayer at the moment, which may turn out to be good for planning the project properly, even if it takes double the time.

Having said that, I could /home and abandon the pit project entirely in favour of something safer -- the only thing that makes that acceptable is the fact that no one but me knows what the pit is for, thereby surrounding it in a lot of mystery if I leave it unfinished...

I know where it is, muhahaha.

You know, with the moderator abilities I have, I could summon a hundred monster spawners and place them all on the bottom of your pit Green Pig... I could.

But what you really should do is plaster the entire pit floor and the area surrounding the lip of the pit with torches. It will allow you to work all through the nights with out having to worry about the monsters.

You make a valid point, the only issue being that I didn't actually want the pit to be lit at all, however the spawning of monsters has necessitated said lighting. I need to try and find a way of enabling safe work while remaining faithful to my original plan at the same time.

That also said, I'm imagining the entire (completed) pit if it was entirely lined with torches...that would be awesome! Or if the walls were entirely lined with lightstone, or whatever Notch calls it now. I'm aware that lightstone doesn't provide nearly as much light as a torch, but the finished effect would be crazy. Although I'd need a shitload of lightstone stacks from one of you mods...like...a double chest full.

Anyway, in all seriousness, if I do manage to properly resume my project, I may request (probably quite a lot of) lightstone at some point, if you guys don't mind, because I have some cool ideas of what I want to do with it.

ALSO (I keep thinking of new things to say), how come you know were the pit is if even I don't know?! I remember when beta was introduced and we got put back at the spawn point; I had no trouble following the torches back to the pit but shit, it's a long way out from the rest of you guys!

I was the one who lead you to the area if you remember. And I stumbled upon it more than once while out gathering sand for the dome.

Was going to post this when it was complete inside and out but when i saw this thread i thought it would make a good current post, so again long time lurker on these forums, posted very little however i thought it would be interesting to add my take on moons spawn to this thread, took around 2 full days with a friends help to construct the outer shell and then a bit more to refine it now all it is awaiting is some tweaks and a massive overhaul on decor inside which i look forward to posting in the forums in the future.

Also read about your minecraft server which would be a privilege to be a part of, my next project once moon's spawn was finished was to build Darujhistan as closely as i could on the land beneath moon's spawn however on my own such projects would take months to accomplish if ever :( would be wonderful to help fulfill such projects amongst some of you lovely people XD

Appreciate what people think, its not utterly finished and would be interested to hear what people think and if you know there is anything mentioned in the books i have left out personally most of my Erikson collection bar Dust of Dreams which is being reread is at home so didnt have to much to look through for descriptions.

I don't see Silanah anywhere. Nor Ravens.

Just saying.
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

Sadly true :( the ravens did cross my mind but then i realised i was in minecraft and making thousands of ravens out of blocks would just look beyond ugly and probably look far more like a big black block obscuring the main structure than anything else, if however they ever put in ravens into minecraft i would poach them, stuff them and mount them on sticks in there thousands around the structure until then alas we are without ravens :(
